Hi folks, I am beginning this thread so we can talk about anything we want and keep the Main Bebop A Lula thread separate for historical searches.
Would anyone mind if we had our conversations here?
The reason I ask is that shortly after we brought the BeBop thread here from the CNY Forum, we realized we had a treasure chest of history that is open to the public and is often visited by musicians and others interested in Utica's musical History. I began the thread over on CNYForum and brought it here, asking Ralph to please leave it open so visitors could view it, as we view the material of others in our own research. Many visitors to this forum are very interested in the Bebop thread and search it for information on the bands we played in a half century ago.
Some of the posts of the past few months probably appear odd to visitors as they read about the bands and view the photos. It might be like reading Lincoln's diary and finding a note from his wife asking if he would please bring home a quart of milk from the office.
So, I hope you don't mind if I begin this Commentary thread and ask that any post only somewhat related to the Bebop History thread be put here. This thread can serve as a meeting place for casual conversation among the musicians and anyone who enjoys the memory of the music that came after Gene Vincent's Bebop A Lula.
Thanks, Dave

Thank you Dave I'll try to keep it to the Thread.I did not mean to step out of bounds. Thanks for the forums help on the reunion signing off. Jay No problem, Jay. And we also have the Reunion Jam 2011 thread where we can talk all we want. Also, if anything comes up on either thread that anyone feels should be on the History Thread, but forgot and put it here or elsewhere, it's a simple job to move it. We don't even need to bother Ralph, I or anyone can simply copy the text and photo link over to the History Thread.

Sorry guys but gonna have to disagree (nothing unusual) about separating the two.
Trying to separate the two or monitoring what they discuss might make two topics now with less to talk about and make it uncomfortable for anyone to want to jump in on either. Just my opinion. Can't see fixing something that isn't broke. [/b][/quote] It will indeed be awkward sometimes. It's goes much more smoothly when the history thread is locked (as it is on the More Stories Forum). Over there, posters regularly discuss and comment on the parallel Commentary Thread. When they want something on the History thread, they post it on the Commentary and we move it to the History Thread for them. One reason we lock the thread can be illustrated by a project Fiona is now working on, a walk up Genesee St. from Baggs Square in the 1890's via post card pictures. As she builds the thread over a period of days, posting a stray comment in the middle of it would interrupt it. That's a special case, yes, but I'll refer to Clipper's comments above for the rest of the reasoning why we want to preserve the History thread for history.

BobbieZ................I am not sure how many forums you are on but there are many out there that are extremely strict. By that I mean that a topic is a topic and if you sway off topic you answer to the rules and the monitor of the topic (who decides if not on topic then they remove it...period. no ifs and or buts. and if the rules are broken too many times then they are locked out of the forum sometimes for good)
The problem on this forum is that you are all closely connected to each other d/t you know each other personally outside of the forum. Now just think how some that stumble upon a site by chance d/t some interest and the whole topic goes way off base. First of all the person doesn't know you so the dialogue is lost on them and of no relevence.....you may have even lost someone who might be a great poster by bringing their knowledge to the plate.
So I can see the point of this Commentary.

So I can see the point of this Commentary. Whatever works best is fine. Just my opinion since many times the main topic has gone dead for quite a while and I thought having too many basically concerning the same subject would get too confusing.

lol! Great name for your band, TonyJ. So when we come to see you play it'll be the "old geezers" paying their respects to the "dead geezers." ;D

Just a short note for all of the musician in and around town.I just found out we lost a real good bass player and my best friend Dec 3. Lester Duval pass away after a long seven years battle with cancer. He was the kindness man I ever met not a bad word about anyone even if they did him wrong. Next years reunion jam will be in his honor. He was there with his wife this last Aug and loved ever minute of it.It got the bug back in him to play again and now he is with the big band and all the other great musician that we have lost over the years. The rest of my gigs will be played in his memory.Miss you and love you Lester. Hey Clipper, you'll never guess who the plumber is that came to the new house to clean our drains. Talk about a face (and voice) from the past........Bob Lynn and his son Robbie. What a surprise! Plus, they were real good to me with the price for all they had to do. Had no idea who was coming because my regular retired plumber and friend did not have the extensive tools to do the big job we needed so he call his old time friend, Bob Lynn to assist us, and he did us very well. No more problems thanks to Bob & Robbie. They are just as good in plumbing as they are with their music. ;D

I listened to Bob Lynn every week at Parter's Choice as long as he played there. I was disappointed when he had trouble with his voice and had to give up singing. He certainly turned his little septic tank business into a major local company with a great reputation. He is a hard worker and so is Robbie. The best around. I ma happy to hear that he is still doing well and still working.
