When my son comes home for a visit, a trip to Symeon's is always on the agenda. I always have a cruet with olive oil, red wine vinegar & Symeon's spices in the kitchen. MY normal lunch is a fresh salad with Symeon's dressing.
One of the last times my daughter was home, she & some friends went to Cavallo's. (That used to be THE place for marching band after a competition.) While she was there a young man at the bar bought her a beer. She was flattered until he came over and said, "You probably don't remember but you used to be our baby sitter. My brothers & I all had a crush on you."
Just so you know, Swimmy, that is not an effective pick-up line.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha! That is hilarious!
After Marching Band competitions, we used to go to Carmella's on Seneca Turnpike.

Yeah, that was the other place. My older daughter didn't drive in high school so she had to go with the crowd. By the time my younger daughter was in high school I had relaxed a little bit so she may have driven a few times. I do remember giving permission for Carmella's.
They graduated in 1994 & 2003 and each spent 5 years in Marching Band so one of them must have been there when you were.

Your younger one, I think. I was in from 1996 to graduation in 1999.

What? ? Since I ain't sitting at the bar looking to score I still enjoy taking my family including my grand kids to Cavollo's for a good meal. Nothing to do with living on memories of what once was cause their food is still just as good if not better. If I'm not mistaken the cook is the same kid who started cooking there right out of school many years ago. The bar scene is one thing but the dinner scene is enjoyed by many families who enjoy the food. Actually, I have never had one bad dish at Cavollo's or one burnt chicken wing. They must be doing something right. They've been in business for much longer then many and their dining room is always packed. Take your family there at 9 on wing night, especially during the summer time. Tell me then if it is still a family-friendly place. Well, I don't see me doing that with a six yr old and a 12yr old. With the little ones we eat dinner at dinner time (4-6) so seeing the bar scene is null. I still stick with saying their food is very good and well-worth the trip for all to enjoy.

Sym still shows up there often, does the walk about, asks and cares how your doing if you enjoy your dinner and has a memory for those of us that started out with him at the beginning. I rarely went to his place in NH, I was Reg Arming then but when I got back his new place was just opening, It was bigger and nicer but nothing about the service or food had changed, it was still perfect.
His Son is just like him yet he adds his own Style!

If you Like Tex Mex, try the Rio Grande Tex Mex in Washington Mills. My Brother in Law Gino opened it in 2000. If you like authentic Tex Mex, thats the place. His ingredients are fresh and traditional, not Cisco and the portions are extremely generous. He does delivery also! Gino and his entire family have been in the business for generations. Warning for Gringos like me, unless you truly enjoy Hot, don't ask for it! His fresh made hot Salsa is for real, it will light you up like a torch, I mix a little Mild with some Medium, otherwise the Aggida is less than wonderful! riograndetexmexgrill.com/Check him out and tell him Gregor sent you!

Favorite greens ever were from Midnight Mary's. Steak, eggs, homefries, and greens after the Moose in Marcy closed on a Saturday night. Dance off about 500 calories and then go eat another 1500, ROFL.

I used to love breakfast at "Little Louie's" on Bleecker St. "Jiambotte", I think is the name of that great concoction w/eggs, potatoes, sausage, etc.

Used to order "to go" orders from there when I worked nights at the OD. They did have good giambotte, but not as good as Midnight Mary's or Tiffany's.
