Used to like going to Buffalo Head in Forestport for steak dinner. Haven't been in years though, so I couldn't say if it was good or not anymore. Denise, we took my aunt to the Buffalo Head for her birthday recently and all was still very good. The prices did go up somewhat but it was worth the delicious meals we all had. My aunt was very pleased and she is one fussy cook herself. It was her first time at the Buffalo Head and I didn't hear one complaint from her.

I used to love it back in the day when they had a rib steak for two that would feed four, and the sides were served family style. Always left with enough steak in a doggie bag for another meal, and the steak was actually tender enough to cut and chew. Haven't been there for a while, but when I lived up on Kayuta Lake we ate there often, and liked having a table near the fireplace in the bar. Is the fireplace still there?

I used to love to go to Cavallo's for wings or for their linguini with clam sauce, but the crowd got a little too rowdy for me when we went to dinner one night and a fight broke out in the stairwell as we were leaving. A cop actually asked me if I wanted to make a statement. I said yeah, if assholes could fly, the bar in that place would make a good runway. He laughed but said that was not the sort of statement he was looking for, LOL. It isn't the place is was when Tom Sr was running it, and all they had was the small dining room in the back with about 10 or 12 tables. The food is still very good. We've never had any problems there cause most of the time we go there for dinner early before any drinking crowds come in. I still like the place alot.

Garramone's on the back side of Kayuta Lake, down the road from Buffalo Head is also a great place to eat. I remember eating in the old place on South St when I was just a kid. That was one of my mom's favorite spaghetti places back in the 50's. If ya are looking for somewhere to eat and want to take a ride on an evening or weekend, Garramone's is a great place to go. Good food, great waitstaff and nice atmosphere.

Speaking of good restaurants. My very dear friend, Quacky ( John Qwilt), owner of the Spaghetti Factory at Verona Beach just lost his Mom on Saturday. Very lovely woman and I offer my sincere condolences and prayers up for her (Judy), Quacky and Judy's entire family. For those who will be attending the "band reunion" this August at Sylvan Beach, stop in for a meal at Quacky's restaurant, and I'll guarantee anything you order will be delicious. The Spaghetti Factory has been mine and my whole families most favorite place at Sylvan beach for as long as I can remember. ;D

Before we moved here to Tennessee, we had a camp about two blocks from the Spaghetti Factory. The food is excellent but get there early if ya go on a weekend, because it is packed.
Another favorite in that area was Schneibel's restaurant that was up the road where Oneida Creek goes under Rt 13. They used to have a roast pork special on Sunday afternoons that was out of this world, but I have not eaten there in a few years.

Went to Judy's wake tonight and you could have had a buffet with all the restaurant owners there from all over Sylvan beach and Verona Beach, old and present. Judy Qwilt was truly one beautiful woman who raised such a wonderful, devoted family loved by all they came in contact with. She will be greatly missed. RIP Judy. You truly earned a place by God's side.

Bella Mia is good. I also LOVE Symeon's! Whenever I'm home for a weekend, and my parents want to go out to dinner, I insist going there! If you're looking for wings, Killabrew. What Swimmy, ya don't like Cavallo's wings? I too love Symeon's for Greek food. We use to always go to the Dad's place when he was on Oneida St many moons ago. Cavollo's wings are smaller and often burnt. Plus, I can think of better company to spend my time with. Fourteen and 15 year old sluts thinking they are impressing me with their slut skirts, over use of make-up and perfume, and telling me that their combined age makes them as old as me (only shows they know how to do basic math). Also, I never liked high school, and I find many people who frequent that bar are fadeways: people who fade away into the past, living on memories of what once was, never moving on. If that scene suits you, great, have at it. But, it is not for me.

Symeon is the epitome of the living the American dream. He was Waiter, cook, dishwasher and entertainment all rolled up into one. He would sing like a bird while he was cooking. Food is just as good as it ever was, his Son is doing a great job.

Since I ain't sitting at the bar looking to score I still enjoy taking my family including my grand kids to Cavollo's for a good meal. Nothing to do with living on memories of what once was cause their food is still just as good if not better. If I'm not mistaken the cook is the same kid who started cooking there right out of school many years ago. The bar scene is one thing but the dinner scene is enjoyed by many families who enjoy the food. Actually, I have never had one bad dish at Cavollo's or one burnt chicken wing. They must be doing something right. They've been in business for much longer then many and their dining room is always packed.

Who would have ever imagine Symeon would have grown so large and popular going to his place on Oneida St years ago? He worked his a** off to get where he is now and truly deserves the good life now with his son taking over the restaurant. I have so much respect for that man and I love him to pieces. He is great guy who raised a wonderful family. He has much to be proud of and all done by his own two hands. He took the American dream and made it work for him and his family.

Take your family there at 9 on wing night, especially during the summer time. Tell me then if it is still a family-friendly place. When I was in high school, it was a great for wings. The last three times I have gone there for wings, they were small and over cooked. The service, because it was so busy, was not very responsive to us. And I really didn't like being approached by slutty teens trying to show off their "maturity." Killabrew has plumper wings, no slutty teens, and one of the bar tenders works at the County Clerk's office and still remembers me so the service is pristine!

"Take your family there at 9 on wing night, especially during the summer time. Tell me then if it is still a family-friendly place." Precisely Swimmy. When Kathy and I go out to dinner, we go at 7PM or later. By that time of night, the leftover "happy hour nitwits" at Cavallo's are trashed, loud, and disgusting. Anything earlier than that is late lunch to me. I go eat at a restaurant, people go drink at a bar. We seldom go anywhere to eat dinner that is better known for their bar than their food.

And I was never one to go to a bar and scope out a "score." Perhaps that is why I cannot stand the "bar scene."
