There is this little restaurant in N.Utica right by Byrne's Dairy across from the N.Utica Plaza that everyone is raving about. Damn, I know it starts with a "B" but can't think of the name. I haven't been there yet but it's getting great reviews from everyone I talk to who has been there. They do say to get there early for dinner or you're out of luck to get a table. From what I'm hearing I am going to try the place soon. Bella Mia, it's really awesome!

I am a breakfast lover, I like it for dinner even! But if I go out for it, I want the stuff right. I dont like an empty Coffee cup ever, Mashed potatoes or French Fries posing as homefries, Over Medium thats as hard as a rock or like soup or toast that looks like it came off my grill or never entered the toaster. I have tried them all around here, most have severe shortcoming.
The best breakfasts in our area hands down is in Oneida, "Sweet Temptations" right across from City Hall. Those folks have got it going on every single time you go there, perfect meal every time, fantastic service and a really reasonable price. The Political Banter there is fabulous, highly charged and very polar, not too many people without an opinion at the counter, even the Politicians show up around Election time to schmooze it up with the common folk!
Its not open Sunday or Mondays, thats when I go to our number 2 is in Vernon by the Back Track entrance, Abe Acee's Nothin' Fancy. The cook does a great job, just let them know exactly what you want, service is good and I grew up with most of the Patrons so its like old homes day!
Now I'm hungry...

Breakfast is one of those meals my wife and I could go for any time of day or night. There is just something about the breakfast menu that doesn't really have a set timeframe of when you can eat it. Believe it or not, and Clipper can certainly profess to this, some of the best places to eat well and cheap are diners. A full stomach without breaking the bank, that's the place to go. Might not be the best digs but you will leave full and money still in your pocket. One place I enjoyed, more for the atmosphere rather than the food was The Soda Fountain in Remsen. I did enjoy the food but all in all its somewhat of a typical American Fare menu with names fit for the theme of the place. Its like an old 50's style place, juke box and all. www.thesoda-fountain.com/My apologies. Earlier I said Bella Vista was in Mohawk. It is actually in Little Falls. I was unsure of where Mohawk ended and Little Falls starts on Rt 5S. local.yahoo.com/info-11654792-bella-vista-restaurant-little-fallsOh and for those who love Voss's, there is a similar place in Dolgeville called ? I will have to get back to you on it, suddenly my mind went blank.

We had dinner last night at The Secret Garden, here in East Utica. Very nice dinner and run by a Bosnian family with an interesting history of living throughout Europe and picking up various cuisines along the way.
Our waitress was new to the restaurant and mentioned that her family owned and operated Lynton's in West Utica, which is no longer in business. I was not familiar with it, but Urban Hermit was -- wondered if any of you knew of it.

Lynton's was a nice family run restaurant on York St, a block up from Kernan School, and the atmosphere was very nice, but I was not that crazy about the food the few times that I ate there. Everyone has their favorites I guess. Back in the days when Lyntons was open there were many many family operated, family oriented restaurants on the West side of town. Deller's and the Anchor Inn were among MY favorites. Bushy's wife at the Anchor was an excellent cook, and Bushy was a card. If you want to see someone passionate about their politics, one would only have to sit at the bar at the Anchor for a few minutes, LOL. He was the Mike McGuirl or Tom Cavanaugh of W Utica. The new chain restaurants will never rival the quality of food, nor come close to the atmosphere and friendliness of a family run neighborhood restaurant.

Lynton's was very popular for many years but when the girls took over the food quality did go down. It was one of the few places that served pork steaks which is my favorite and that was very good. Not as good as Flo's pork steaks but pretty close. Anchor Inn was the best restaurant for many years in W.Utica. Not just because it was my cousin place but because everything was homemade and delicious. Their Polish food was excellent but they were famous for their mushroom stew which was my very favorite. Every Thursday evening was always our big family reunion night that I have very fond memories of. Dellers was another restaurant that we also had a family night at, because they are my sister's in-laws. Each one of these places were so good because each generation of these families took over and kept the food and their specialties always as good as the last. Something you don't see much of today.

Used to like going to Buffalo Head in Forestport for steak dinner. Haven't been in years though, so I couldn't say if it was good or not anymore.

Bella Mia is good. I also LOVE Symeon's! Whenever I'm home for a weekend, and my parents want to go out to dinner, I insist going there!
If you're looking for wings, Killabrew.

What Swimmy, ya don't like Cavallo's wings? I too love Symeon's for Greek food. We use to always go to the Dad's place when he was on Oneida St many moons ago.

I used to love to go to Cavallo's for wings or for their linguini with clam sauce, but the crowd got a little too rowdy for me when we went to dinner one night and a fight broke out in the stairwell as we were leaving. A cop actually asked me if I wanted to make a statement. I said yeah, if assholes could fly, the bar in that place would make a good runway. He laughed but said that was not the sort of statement he was looking for, LOL.
It isn't the place is was when Tom Sr was running it, and all they had was the small dining room in the back with about 10 or 12 tables.
