hey stranger!
The city charter gives the mayor discretion to waive the residency requirement in certain situations, including those involving public safety. Roefie chose to waive his discretion to make it easier to put his buddy in the position. The ineligibility rational was just a cover to justify labella's appointment.

I have to say I'm feeling a little sorry ... and concerned ... for Newell. He doesn't come across well, doesn't photograph well, sounds sometimes sincere, other times a little bombastic.
Regarding politics, he may be in a little over his head. The "bad guys" have the reins, the connections and the experience.
Has he verified his veteran status? If he doesn't or can't, they'll crucify him.
What's your take, Rod?

From Dave: "I have to say I'm feeling a little sorry ... and concerned ... for Newell. He doesn't come across well, doesn't photograph well, sounds sometimes sincere, other times a little bombastic...Regarding politics, he may be in a little over his head. "
Your right Dave, but I give this guy a lot of credit for guts. Either way, they are going to make him pay a price and he could use some help from an experience politican. But where are these "Champions of the people?" All cowering together in their Scandal Bunkers, playing safe.

I think sometime his nerves get the better of him as does his passion. He is new to politics but he does have competent help. Attorneys and some "political" folks. He was a regular guy, living his life until finally he decided he had enough and decided to stand up. I'll support that every time. I got involved after Angelo's verbal attack on Mr. Newell. Most folks in Utica don't photograph well What happened yesterday won't happen again. While I'm not surprised by the lack of Dems to step up PUBLICLY, I'm pretty surprised that the Republicans haven't used this opportunity to destroy the Dems and to ensure victory in November. That to me is telling in how damaged real politics are here in Oneida county. You can bet your ass if I was a Republican running for office I'd be DESTROYING the Dem party right now. Just saying.

I'm not surprised by the lack of Republican politicians jumping on this golden opportunity. Many of them are scared and surprised by this blatant expression of the will of the people as Rofo and his gang is. After all, if it succeeds the same thing could happen to them. So, into the Scandal Bunker they go with the rest of them to wait this one out.

I'm not surprised either, but not because I think they're scared they could be next. The regional politics has been such that everyone in power is because both parties agree. Look at the last election, do you really think it was coincidence that the Republicans put up a token candidate against roanne destito?! The same goes for Townsend, etc. Everyone in politics was furious with Judge Romano because she put her own agenda in play and skewed the political demographics in the judiciary. The party bosses ordered her to stay as a family judge for at least a year before running so that Balzano could win the Supreme Court position and then there would be two democrat county court judges, two democrat Supreme Court Judges, two Republican Supreme Court Judges, and I can't remember Ringrose's political affiliation. But the politics are such that unless you're one of the good ol' boys, you'll never be able to win anything. I remember when Jason Ryan or Ryan something (a sports newscaster at wktv petitioned to run on several occasions. Each time, he was systematically denied access to the ballot because the bosses didn't want an idealist to run. Whether it's the same across the state or across the country, I don't know.

Absolutely Swimmy, that's why yesterday really was a bonus. Those two clowns really showed their asses. That's one of the reasons we're not announcing numbers. We're gonna watch them implode. I really did expect MUCH more sophistication from those positions. The gool ol' boys are done. It's time for the next generation. I'm really pretty new on the scene. Still trying to figure out who's who's and what's what's. I've been here for about 20 years and spent 19 trying convince my wife to get out. So, now my two boys have been born here. It's home. So I guess if we're staying, we best gussy it up some.

Swim, was it Ryan Nobles? I know Don Liable from the valley had the exact same problem.
This system of doing this only keeps their paychecks coming regardless of the problems we face. It needs to be used as an example of how these leeches can stay in office year after year.
Look at it this way: Nothing in Utica changes very often, not the least of which are the politicians.

Yes, Boomer, That is the name, Ryan Nobles. He tried to run several times. And each time, they found a way to keep his name from getting onto the ballot.
