Gear, I have spoken with Mr. Jeror (not Jerod like I originally wrote) and he strikes me as being very sincere. He told me that even as few as 2 years ago he was completely "non-political." But as he watched events unfold over the past year, he felt in his gut that he had to do something. I agree -- good on him.
Dave, you're right. It's just another example of them all saying they're going to fight for the people, but in reality, they are fighting for the institution, their party or their own job security.

Frankie, when is Rome holding their "Tea Party"? Utica's is on Thursday but I heard on the news these "Tea Parties" are suppose to be nation-wide on Wednesday. Why isn't this area having it on the same day as all? Are we being a dollar down and a dollar short or did I hear the news wrong? Let me know what you hear.

My understanding is that Rome will have theirs at Ft. Stanwix between 4 & 6PM on the 15th.

Well good for Ms. Destito for attending. Its quite a contrast to her recent: we must find other ways to tax people" statement. Could this be a genuine attempt to turn a new leaf. BTW, where are the rest of the politicians? Picente, Arcuri, Reed...

That's ok by me for the politicians to show up but I don't want to hear them speak any more. It's not their day to shine. Those days are far over with. Don't want to hear their bull-sh*t any more, especially from Destito. Again, so why is Utica holding their "TEA Party" on the 16th?

Hmmm, is it a blonde moment or simply a senior moment? Might be the pain in her foot, distracting her brain. Whaduyathink?
Hey Frank. We do have to remember she IS a blonde. She will be the one that brings a can of "coffee" to the "tea" party.
By the way, WHEN IS THE UTICA TEA PARTY AGAIN??? ;D

Frankie, I'm the one freaking out. Just read the link Gear posted in the beginning of this topic and you'll see why. Am I losing it? I'm so confused! Actually Clipper, you can throw all the tea in the canal because I hate the sh*t. Give me coffee any day. ;D

LOL. Me too Sunshine, unless it is iced with lots of lemon.
I can see it all now. Everyone throws tea in the canal. Suddenly we have "caffeine buzzed carp" jumping eighteen feet in the air and swimming 80 miles and hour.

I am totally disgusted with the people in Utica! Went down to the State office building at 11pm this morning for the "Tea Party" and a total of 15 people showed up, RJ and myself included. All I can say without getting flushed by Ralph is, "you damn Uticans get what you deserve and don't bitch to me about how fed up you are about anything anymore. You are a bunch of useless lazy no minds who won't get off your lazy a**es for anything. Screw y'all! Ya better stay out of my face from now on!" Also, where were the people who organized this whole frigging thing? You asked us to respond and the 15 of us that did showed up should have been met by you. Where the hell were you? That's all I want to say. I'm too pi**ed to say anything else without blowing my lid completely.

Gee Sunshine, maybe most of them are WORKING. That is something that you and I don't have to do anymore. What did you expect? A million man march? Why are you surprised? This is not your first rodeo. You have gone to council meetings and other important meetings, and found NOBODY there to attend, but lots of bitching the next day when the newspaper published the results of the meeting. I am in need of depends, because I found this post while searching on google in connection with the Olbiston history thread. The reference to "clipper's corner" flashed up on my screen, and there is the post by Bobbbiez, ranting and raving about the tea party. LOLOLOL I am laughing so damned hard that my ribs hurt. I can picture your small frame, just stomping and bitching all the way home from downtown. Hey, Kiddo. Go to the patio and have a nice thick shake and a chili dog. Nothing is going to change in Utica as long as there are only the very few of you who care. I agree with you when you say, the rest of them deserve what they get. God bless you for your stamina and your dedication to our hometown. I lose more faith every day in what the future may hold for the city I love. I have to wonder why in the world I would want to give up what we have here, to come back there to the declining real estate market, and the ascending tax rates and lousy politics. Uticans as a whole seem to want to be spoon fed the good stuff, without having to exert any effort on their own to gain it. They want to sit on their butts and have everything just work out for the best and all to be roses. I guess those of us with that still have a grip on reality will never understand that ill conceived perception of how to fix the city's wrongs. Just do what you do best, shout out your stand on the issues loudly, and let your love of your neighborhood guide your heart. Don't have a coronary kiddo.

Hey Bobbiez I bet you the turn out in Rome will be good. My husband works in Rome they sent around an email telling them that they should go to. He is going but I am unable to make it. Was Gear at the one in Utica?

I bet you are right Lucy. My recollections from the days that I worked in Rome, are recollections of much more public support for issues of concern by Romans than by Uticans.
It was always quite obvious from the school board meetings to political events of national interest, that Romans were much more civic minded and interested in issues that affected their community and it's well being, than Uticans were.
It has always seemed strange to me that Rome is only a few short miles from Utica, approximately the same age as Utica, suffers the same employment ills that Utica does, and yet Rome has not let their older neighborhoods fall into the state of ruin that Utica has. People there still have community pride, and have not let the rif raf over run them in a quest to turn the city into a ghost town and a ghetto.
One thing that amazed me was that when Griffiss closed, Rome bounced back quicker and suffered less negative impact than Utica did. The loss of Griffiss was by far a bigger blow to the Rome economy than it was to Utica. Romans simply pulled together, pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and moved ahead to make the best of a bad situation.
I become more and more convinced every day to look to the Rome area when thinking about relocating back to the area. I am very sad to admit, that I think Utica's corruption and political crap is too deep rooted to ever be changed. Uticans and Utica's corrupt political machine are Utica's worst enemy.
It would take a complete revelation by the people of Utica, and a complete turn around from the "poor me" attitudes of those that sit back and complain, to change Utica. There are not enough Bobbbiez's and Ralphs in the city to git r done.
