Jon,
I can't thank you enough for posting these. The bottom blue one was from World War II, hence the V for Victory. And on the spine of the second one, you'll see "Ladies Invited"...not really a place where you'd bring a date back then in the 50's and 60's....by then it was pretty rough. But we did go a lot after church on Sundays and sometimes on Friday nights. I remember the day President Kennedy was shot. My father had one of those small black & white TV's (of course, no one really had color) and the whole place was just awash in tears. These big burly men just weeping...
I gave these to my father for Father's Day, framed, and he couldn't put them down all day!!

Wonderful pieces of history Nina. I love to see things like this. Artifacts that bring back memories of walking the streets of downtown, getting coffee to go at the OK Lunch and then hitch hiking back to N Utica on the approach to the old Bagg's Square Bridge. We used to go downtown on weekends, just to get a slice of pizza at Woolworths or to bowl at the old Palace Bowling Lanes on Lafayette St. Kids used to occupy themselves with fun and excercise in those days. We would walk all the way from Keyes Rd to the N Genessee Diner just to split a 35cent bag of french fries, eaten from a greasy bag with wooden cocktail forks.
