Nofri's was one of my favorite places when I was in high school. There wasn't a pizza place on every corner back then, and Nofri's was where we headed for pizza and cokes after our basketball games, when I went to Whitesboro High School.
In later years it became a favorite spaghetti spot, and I loved their antipasto and home made bread. All good things come to an end, and my two favorite Italian spots both closed, Nofri's and Pescatore's on Albany St in the city. Now I visit Tony Sparagna's on Lenox whenever I am home for a visit.
I hope people continue to patronize these little family run places. Here in Tennessee, there are very few left. Everyone goes to the chain joints by the interstate, and mom and pops are almost non existent. I love Olive Garden, but if I when I move back to Utica, I may never patronize them again, haha. We don't have good family run Italian restaurants here.

Didn't Nofri's have a sign outside or in the window reading 'Tomato Pie' in the 1950's. I think I remember it. Sometimes on our way home from the Beach, my grandmother would insist we stop there and she buy us dinner.

I am trying to envision that sign Dave. We lived with my grandparents for a short time when we returned from Arizona in the 50's. We lived on the other side of the Thruway and on Main St, one block away from Nofri's. It was around the time that the thruway was being built, and Tamers Food market moved to the truck route near Woods Road from Carey's Corners.
My grandparents lived right next to the thruway, and the other side of the thruway bridge was Watkins Street which runs from Main St to the truck route, right in front of the building that used to be Nofri's.
