It appears that Dave Thomas (Wendy's orginator) got the idea of Wendy's from Kewpee's. Maybe that is why their hamburgers (MHO) are the better of the other fast food chains (McD's BK)

That is very interesting. I had always said that when Wendy's first came to Utica, they were the closest thing to a Kewpie hamburger that you could get. Close, but no cigar, haha. Same thing with the malts. Wendy's has a good malt, but NOTHING like the original Kewpie malts.

Clipper, when Wendy's first opened in Yorkville I to thought they were the closest thing to Kewpee's, but not now. We even stopped going to Wendy's because their hamburgs did change for the worse. They're smaller and very over cooked. The only thing I like there now is still the chili and baked potatoes. That's about it.

I agree sunshine. I loved their burgers when they first opened, but now they are the same old crap as McDonald's and Burger King. I don't know what they put in the meat, but it gives me indigestion, and real hamburger doesn't, when we cook it at home or I buy a burger at Appleby's or somewhere.
Love the chili, and still buy the malts. I am not a baked potato person unless it is laying next to a 12 ounce ribeye cooked medium rare. LOL Talking about Yorkville, I loved the burgers at the old Yorkville Diner, but they were not 15 centers, haha. Great burger with a big slab of onion and some ketchup and mustard.

Yep, Yorkville Diner is another place we had to say goodbye to. Such a great place with the best of food. They really weren't that much more then the fast food places but look what ya got for the small difference. Big and delicious! What I really appreciated was just like the Patio they use to be open 24 hours. ;D From what I remember someone bought the Diner and moved it out of state and it's still going just as strong. Our area lost out again.

Maybe that change came when Dave Thomas passed away and he wasn't around for QC.

Nina, "Frankie" is Frankcor who is a member here on the forum. He lives at Delta and who I consider a very dear friend. He's a sweetie. Definitely a keeper. My Dad's name was Alec. His CB handle was "deliveryman" which many called him. He got that handle because he delivered groceries for the Chicago Mkts. and delivered milk to schools for B & F Dairy.

Hey Bobbie,
You may be at Delta Lake already...spoke to my father and he thinks he does remember your father. He also told me names of the bakeries he used, but I don't remember ...maybe one was the NY bakery which was on the same Street as the Utica Memorial Auditorium (I think).
I also have 3 old OK LUNCH matchbook covers that I found on e-bay. Who knew! I'd like to post them here, but of course, have no idea how to do that...so if anyone can help me out...
Nina.

Too bad the shot doesn't include what I remember as the "family entrance" down the side on Pelletieri in back.
Damn! It seems so much smaller a building than I remember.

Too bad the shot doesn't include what I remember as the "family entrance" down the side on Pelletieri in back. For the traveler on a budget, lunch at Pellettieri Joe's on the corner of Jay St and Pellettieri Ave is not to be missed. This charming restaurant and bar is the premier place to try mushroom stew, braciole, covered sausage sandwiches, Italian long hots and of course, Utica Club pints on tap for $1.25. They are open Tuesday and Saturday afternoons for lunch and on Thursday evenings with a free buffet from 6 - 8pm. The buffet is a great way to try Utica greens or sausage and peppers, two area favorites that this place excels at. For lunch, expect it to take up to 2 hours, but the bar is cheap and this place is classic Utica.
