I used to drink Guiness, at room temp, even! I was a total beer snob back in college and in my early 20's and early 30's...until I was 35! Then I suddenly decided that I really like Bud Light! Must have come from living in the south for so long. ;-)

I'm more of a vodka man, but when I drink beer, it's usually Blue Light. I started drinking it. I started drinking it in law school when one of my friends only drank that. Now, the regular beers taste too heavy. But there's nothing like Smirnoff Vodka for me.

I like Guiness at room temperature, too. There's an old axiom that states that beer should be drunk at the same temperature at which it is aged in order to enjoy the maximum flavor. Most European beers are aged in cellars while American and Canadian beers are aged under refrigeration.
I first drank warm beer while in Vietnam. Occasionally when we were in Indian country, a re-supply chopper would drop off cases of C-rations and a couple of cases of warm Bud that had been sitting in the sun on a helicopter pad all day. We learned that if you rolled the can on the ground for a minute, it wouldn't gush all over when opened even after being dropped 80 feet from the air when the terrain or trees didn't allow the choppers to land. I remember looking forward to a can of mystery meat, a couple of warm Buds and a half-pack of Pall Malls after humpin' 80 pounds in the boonies all day. Life was good for a few moments. Once the sun went down, all bets were off.

I like Blue Light, too, but it's hard to find down here. Food Lion used to sell it but they stopped. I think they have it at Harris Teeter, but I can get a case of Bud Light pretty cheap at Costco.
Ralph, oh my! How long were you there? I don't think I would have dealt with that very well.

I think you were asking me? I was there on a full tour, 365 days. Thankfully, I wasn't in the boonies all that time. It wasn't all hell. I even got to see Joey Heatherton at a Bob Hope show. Ohh, baby!
What the heck is a Harris Teeter?

Harris Teeter is a large and really great grocery chain in the Carolinas. Kind like a N.Carolina "Wegman's". Just one of those names that tickles you when you see it. I drive by a church daily, just up the road. The sign says taht Rev. D. Pickle is pastor. For some reason that has tickled me for the entire 6 years I have been here. I just envision this huge kosher dill standing in the pulpit.

Bad fingers, bad, bad! :-o Clipper is right about Harris Teeter, and I've always giggled over the name as well. I renamed it Hairy Peter. :-)

Yuk! I think I will simply use Krogers from now on when I am in the Carolina's. I have no desire to eat anything that was purchased from a "Hairy peter" store. Hmm I wonder what the logo looks like? ? Maybe a little hairy icon, pushing a supermarket buggy? ?

We have Krogers in Tn too. It is a nationwide chain. I recently was reading about a labor dispute involving Krogers in Calif.

We used to have Krogers here in Greensboro, but they all went away. Now if we want to go to Kroger in NC we have to go to Durham, and I don't want to drive 45 minutes to do my grocery shopping! There is a Kroger in Martinsville, VA, which is a little closer to me than the one in Durham, but it's still about a 45 minutes drive. Guess I won't shop at Kroger!

In Spain they have the toppings of all toppings, you can get everything from Jamon (cured pig leg) to goat cheese on your pizza. It's a travesty I tell ya!!!! They do know what real Mozzerella is though, they just don't use it at Pizza Hut. El Pizza de Espana es muy malo......

They have Krogers down in Indiana and had them in Texas when I lived there as well, pretty big chain. Better than shopping at Piggly-Wiggly!!!
