Oh yeah, I saw it coming, but I have gotten used to it, and I usually just go away, and continue to read. I am scratching my head, wondering why Chinello deletes topics with some substance and leaves up the humorous thread about the puppy though???LOL I never thought I would see that forum go down to where there was only a couple of threads a day to post to. Kinda sad. I used to enjoy that forum a year or so ago, when I first got online. Oh well, most of the good folks are on here now anyway.

I'm not sure where that puppy thread is going. But Anernerk, Tara, Gniat and Chuck have a certain charm.

Your spelling of Eskimo names is flawless. Do you come from the tribe my deceased buddy, Joe Cimo came from? He said he was an awopaho, from the mucklands of Rome. I wonder if that tribe is the lost tribe of the Iroquois nation? Hmmm. I will have to go either wiki or google that and do some research. He once said that he had ancestors in Alaska, that taught him to salmon fish.
Did you know Joe? He was in the base fire department for years, and owned quite a few rental properties in Rome. Great guy. During the years that I was the IAFF Union pres, he was secretary treasurer of the local. he passed away a few years back from a heart attack. Always fishing, and quite often on delta.

Hmmmmm........Still makes you wonder why she was walking around with him carrying a knife able to do that kind of damage?
I guess we'll just have to see how this all plays out in the end.

We all enjoyed the disgrace forums until these past few months. That's why we're all here now. I just tried to load the disgrace forums to post my opinion of this new comment section and how horrible it is for discussion. The damn thing just makes it easier for one-hit wonders who spout nothing but uninformed or uneducated (take your pick) rhetoric without any support. I notice that little scottie peterman has been more bold in his comments due to it. Easier to insult and put down than to support anything. Though he was never much of one for a real debate without being insulting to everyone with a differing viewpoint.
Anywhooo, the worst part about the latest developments with the disgrace is that all of their afternoon updates posted on line are the same stories in tomorrow's paper! How pathetic! At least for awhile, the paper posted new news in tomorrow's paper, not a repeat of what they already posted. The paper is going downhill fast. I hope someone comes in with a better paper, the time is ripe for an easy take over.
As for the actual topic of this thread... There are still a lot of questions to be answered. Hopefully, the police will have those answers by the time her pretrial hearing begins on Thursday.
For those unfamiliar with the criminal process in NYS, a pre-trial hearing is where the prosecution presents its evidence to the judge. The judge, then determines whether there is probable cause that the defendant committed the crime and for the case to proceed to grand jury. The defendant can waive this hearing and request to have his case brought to the grand jury, a typical move by most defendants.
If the judge finds probable cause then the DA has 45 days to present the case to the grand jury for indictment. If the grand jury finds probable cause to indict, then the case is moved from the city court to the county court for arraignment. At the Arraignment, the defendant can request the county judge to review the grand jury minutes to determine whether there was actually probable cause. This is usually a futile move as the county judges here have rarely, if ever, found that there was no probable cause.
As with the rest of you, I will reserve my comment about the actual case until more facts are disclosed. Right now, I feel most sorry for the family and the children.

Swimmy - Can you put into layman's terms what "probable cause" actual means? Does this mean a series of circumstances WITHOUT physical evidence -OR- does phsycial evidence have to be present?
A friend of mine has a son who has been indicted for Burglary and the Trial Date has not been set yet. There is absolutely no evidence of her son's fingerprints on the alarm pad outside the door, or anyplace else (he never actually went in the house). The only thing they have is a written statement by his cousin (a dope addict) stating that "he" intended to commit burglary. His cousin got a plea deal to plea guilty (no jail time - 1 year probation).

Thanks, Swimmy. I believe the one that fits my friend's son is "belief that someone will commit a crime". Thanks for the lesson in law.

Ralph, I read that article too. I noticed a comment at the bottom that blased the od's reporting. It has since been deleted along with the comment option. It took a lot of courage for the boy to write his letter. I doubt this spells the end of the disgrace's incompetent news reporting, but I hope it taught rocco a lesson that it's better to report the whole story and not just the points that will insight public outrage. Perhaps he will think twice before doing his typical, bulletin-style reporting of a story. There are always two sides to the story, and I'm glad the son pointed it out. The disgrace should be ashamed of its poor coverage and quick judgment of the victim. It's instances such as this that I favor the police NOT disclosing its case to the public BEFORE it's been scrutinized by the court. It is the lackluster reporting that causes so much turmoil. You would think the disgrace learned its lesson with gmo making libelous remarks about Judge Dwyer. Thank you Daniel for your strength in these matters. I hope you and your family are able to heal from this situation and that true justice -- not vigilante od justice -- is served.

Hmmmm. I wonder who posted the comment blasting the OD's indiscriminate reporting??? shame on me! I have posted twice on the subject, starting the morning of the first article. Both were eventually deleted, because I criticized the reporting of the event. What the hell is the matter with those idiots, even putting a chat block out there for all the vultures to jump on, the morning after the incident. There had been very little released at that time, but everyone jumped on the alcohol, and abuse issues. Just not cool. I made a post on here, and retracted it after thinking about the kids and family. It is hard NOT to have an outspoken comment when such a shocking event is published. It is very tragic and sad. The kids are the one's to suffer. I still don't understand what the hell is going on with the new way of doing business and reporting at the OD. NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN A COMMENT SECTION TO BEGIN WITH!

As the oldest son said "This relationship should have ended years ago" - probably sumed up the entire situation. IMO - once a relationship becomes abusive (on either side), that is the time to end the relationship. A Police Officer once said to me "If he hits you once, he will hit you again"!
As the son stated, when you mix alcohol and violence together - it becomes a deadly mix.
As I've said before, my sympathy goes out to the entire family including the children involved.
This "Reporter" should be fired! He is constantly "reporting" by distorting the actual truth. I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it - The OD is nothing more than a rag sheet!

The purpose of the comment section, as Los Jibaros enlightened me, is to drive up the hit rates on their web pages, thereby driving up the revenues from Google. Provocative and inflammatory reporting is the key to success in that game. And all of us feed it.
It's all because Thelma canceled her subscription. They were forced to go to this new format to replace their advertising and subscription revenues. Thanks, Thelma.
