Has anyone been following the Trial currently in progress of the alleged killer of Officer Lindsay?
I have and from what I've been reading of the OD's blog of the Trial, I think they have the right man on Trial for his Murder.

I never got to work with Tom, but met him at the station once. Seemed like a real stand up guy.
If they've got the right asshole, the least they can do is treat him exactly the same as he did Tom.

It is bad enough when a Policeman is killed while on duty, but Officer Lindsay was assinated (sp.?) in such a cowardly way. He never had a chance to defend himself and I doubt he even saw the shooter (bullet went in the side of his head).
I just wish NYS had the Death Penalty as this is what the defendant deserves.

too bad we can't do something like in shawshank redemption. Where the young guy was murdered by the guards and the story was that he tried to escape and didn't stop when told....

Gee, should we revive the helicopter interrogation technique, too?

To bad they use elevators at the courthouse.
I imagine this would be one clumsy perp if they had to use the stairs. ;D

www.uticaod.com/homepage/x1993298915This is the link to the running account of what is currently happening in the Courtroom. This eye witness account and identifying the defendant as the shooter is good enough to convince me they have the right man on Trial. I give Rivera a lot of credit for following thru on his testimony as it has made him a marked man among the low lives he associated with.

I'm finding it difficult to read the details. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear the details of Tom's last few minutes. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of Tom and his family and this awful tragedy. I certainly hope that justice is served and swiftly for the sake of the family and his girlfriend.

Diaz's testimony plants a seed of doubt in my mind. She said when Rivera came running up to her right after the murder, he shouted "Somebody shot a cop." Why would he say "somebody" when it was someone well known (former roommate) of both Rivera and Diaz? Something's not right about that. Of course, eyewitness testimony is often messed up. But it's enough to make me want to hear all the evidence before I can convict someone.

I also wondered why he didnt just name the shooter. Although he may have been scared of what could happen to him and his family if he did. It will be interesting to see how the prosecution cross examines Rivera and how the rest of the trial plays out.

I know I'm often critical of the OD but their court coverage is pretty good. If NY won't join the 21st century and permit cameras in the courtroom, this is the next best thing. It may be even better. Live court procedings are often much akin to watching paint dry.

Exactly smiley. I pray for the family and friends daily. It is just one more tragedy, that the family has to sit through the trial, looking at the crime scene photos, and listening to the detailed testimony of how he died. Court proceedings are very trying for the families of victims. It forces them to relive, over and over, a horrible event that they are struggling to understand and put into a perspective that they can live with the realizations, and move on. Every time I see the name Lindsay, my heart aches. All I can envision is a smiling young police officer, making a traffic stop, and then the next vision is one of him laying dead with a bullet hole in his head, put there by a cowardly act by a cowardly individual. While I read every article about the trial with interest, I cannot help but to have those visions run back through my mind, every time the name is mentioned. There is no true justice that can be done, or retribution for such a horrific act of cowardice. A wonderful young man was struck down in the dark by a coward. His life was snuffed out in it's prime. We will never know the greatness he may have achieved. Now we will support a dirtbag in our corrections system for the rest of his life. He will never have to work, or pay rent, or worry about where his next meal will come from. He will be a receipient of our taxpayer generosity, and will spend the days playing basketball, and lifting weights with the rest of the scumbags we as taxpayers support. At night he will watch cable TV and never pay a cable bill. He will never pay taxes, or have to worry about health insurance. Where is the justice in that. We take a person and give them all of life's neccessities and none of life's responsibilities, and we pay for it. The only inconvenience is that they are geographically confined to a restricted area. They soon assimilate into the culture behind bars, seek their own level, and settle into their own spot in the prison community. The sick and sad thing about it, is that in prison, the most heinous of crimes makes you the most respected and revered inmate. This little asshole will probably achieve great fame among the warped and twisted. He will probably be mayor of his cell block, while we are left with only a memory of a young man with something to actually offer society, and a fine police officer.
