I have to agree and alluded to his newfound "educational opportunities. But then , what do you do with them???
Bobbbiez, you keeping abreast of things on that site is great.
Keep in mind that I have been to Weed & Seed sites all over the country.
People in Utica have no idea how bad it can get.

Well Ralph, I can only suggest we keep throwing them behind bars and with each offense give them stiffer sentences so we don't have to deal with them on our streets, instead of a slap on the hand as they become first, second and third time offenders. For many, our prisons have revolving doors for them.
Reading the local newspaper I see so many of the same names committing crimes, being sentenced and then shortly being arrested again as soon as they get out. Some I can't believe were even back on the streets to be arrested again. It's totally insane.
In my 64 years I have traveled alot to many other areas and different states. I was always amazed and shocked at the amount of crimes they have. I always returned home thinking the grass is not always greener on the other side and that Utica is much safer then those other areas, which is definitely true. That is probably why I along with many others are fighting so hard to keep Utica from becoming like those other areas. We can do it, but all our City Departments have to start working together on the problems we're facing and the people living here have got to stop thinking so negatively and start working with the rest of us on coming up with solutions to make our streets safer again.

www.uticaod.com/homepage/x565323205Here is today's account of the brother that choose to stand trial. Note what the defense attorney is trying to use as a defense for his actions which is very slim in my opinion. What really shocked me was the fact BEFORE he started to beat the Policeman and without knowing what the Policeman was trying to do, he SPIT IN HIS FACE!!!!!!IMO, if there isn't a law on the books for someone doing this to a Law Enforcement Officer, there should be. Whatever happened to parents teaching their children respect for the Policeman, and instilling in them when they are youjng that if they are ever in trouble, a Policeman is your best friend? That was how I was raised and also the way I raised my children, and now my grandchildren. I hope they throw the book at this hoodlum and give him the maximum sentence possible. Let him do his sentence in a State Prison and see how "tough" he thinks he is then!

Thelma, I think it's more likely he'll be treated like a minor hero wile serving time for beating up a cop.
As far as parents teaching goes, remember this kid's mom attacked the police when they came to arrest her precious little boy.
I'd say this kid shows a lot of promise for a life of crime.

After reading McKenzie's arguments in defense of Howard, if I were on the jury, I would find him guilty of practicing law without a brain.

THAT'S TWO AMENS FRANK! An idiot represented by another idiot. Sounds like he should probably take his chances and plead guilty also. Was mama ever charged? She should have been cuffed and stuffed too! A few hours or days in a cell would possibly give them all time to contemplate exactly who is in charge, them or the cops.

The first thing that always comes to mind when I see or hear of an assault on Law Enforcement Officer. If they have no respect for the Police then they even have less for an average citizen. That in its self to me is very scary.
I said before our State is to liberal and our laws need to be updated for todays crimes and behaviors. Their are way to many loop holes in the system that could easily be corrected.
The problem with the revolving door for these Inmates is possibly in the Parole system with their early release programs. These Inmates receive credit for attending programs in prison for a leniency at their Parole decision. Programs that are only attended to help their plea with Parole. Take that part of the equation out and the Inmates would never attend these programs.

I have never understood the parole system. It takes a judge and 12 jurors to pass sentence in most cases, and yet a parole board of about half that size is allowed to shorten the sentence and release offenders back onto the streets.
When I was a kid, if my mom punished me, she was the only one that could shorten or lessen that punishment. My dad would not interfere. Should the intentions of a court be overturned by a group of people that decide that a person sentenced to 15 years is ready to be turned loose in 5 or 6 years?? Why spend money on all these programs aimed at educating people that are pending parole hearings. If a sentence is 15 years, save our taxpayer money until the person has been incarcerated for 13 or 14 of those years, and then make a genuine attempt to prepare these inmates for life on the outside.
If we think that a person only needs to be incarcerated for 5 years, then sentence him to 5 years and keep him there for 5 years.

www.uticaod.com/homepage/x288023293Here is the latest on the current Trial being held for the brother of one of the defendants that assaulted the UPD Policeman. Case goes to the Jury tomorrow. I can only hope they find him Guilty as charged and throw the maximum sentence allowable. Our Courts need to send a message that assaulting our Police carries a heavy sentence.

The Jury only took 45 minutes to arrive at a Guilty Verdict and recommend the maximum sentence of 7 years for the 17 year old punk , Darnell Robinson, for assaulting and resisting arrest on Officer Sabanovic.
My "tough guy" broke down and cried when the verdict was read!!!!! It goes to show these types of punks are only "TOUGH" when they think they are dealing with someone weaker than they are. I guess Mr. "tough guy" Robinson found out he is NOT ass "tough" as he thought he was.
His younger brother, age 14, is being handled by Family Court and I can only hope he also receives the toughest sentence they can give.

I love you thelma. Couldn't stop laughing when I saw him break down and cry at the verdict. Now we'll see just how tough he can be when a 250 pounder comes up to him and makes him his bitch and eats his commissary!

Yeah Thelma, My same exact sentiments. He thought he was tough because he also had backup during the assault on the Officer. Bet my life he wouldn't have been so tough if the fight was one on one . Yeah, what ever happen to that code and practice?
