Couldn't have said it better myself. That pretty much sums it up in a nut shell and brought a grin to my face.
Thanks!

Well, since I'm planning on attending - I don't think I appreciate being characterized as a "loser." Remind me Joe - when was your term as Congressman or Mayor? Or do you prefer to simply bitch from the sidelines??
With all due respect...

Not knowing any of the players, I was wondering ... "... friends Dave Roefaro and Michael Arcuri are the gusts of honor ...." Is "gusts" a typo or a comment?

Yes, that's right. Its your choice to attend, and yes the headliner are two political losers. Ask yourself, what are you getting for your $45? Lessons in political incompetance? BTW, since, you are so free with my name, why don't you identify yourself or do you intend to call me out anonymously? Since you know who I am, you have obviously been lurking here for a while even though you "joined" in February 2011. So please introduce yourself. As for my run for political office, I am forbidden to do so by my employer. That has never stopped me from being vocal and active. My political participation includes: letters and guest Op Eds in the OD, appearances on local radio and TV shows like WIBX's First Look, Bill Keeler, Hank Brown, WKTV, and I have publicly criticizing the New Hartford town Board at Town Board meetings. What have you done? What office have you run for? That's right, we won't know because we don't know who you are. Or do we... Have you been a member here under a different screen name by any chance?

Since you know who I am, you have obviously been lurking here for a while even though you "joined" in February 2011. So please introduce yourself. Umm, your user name is LionelJoe. That's where I got Joe from. I'm also guessing you collect trains - and no, that doesn't indicate that I've been "lurking" anywhere - it indicates that I can read. Are you unclear about what a fundraiser is? It's a bunch of people with similar interests showing their support for that interest. I'm a Democrat. I support Democrats. Not all of them, and I don't always agree with the ones I do support. What am I "getting" for my $45? Probably some crappy chicken or pasta...and a chance to spend time with friends I haven't seen in a while. I have no problem telling you who I am - (which sounds a little ridiculous, who am I?) - but since you've got your knickers in a knot, I'll let you spend the 6 seconds it will take to figure it out. Have a great night!

Not personal. I just don't appreciate being called a "loser" - especially by someone who doesn't know me.

My original point is still valid: recycling political failures like Arcuri and Roefaro only does nothing to move our region forward. We need new ideas and new blood and its not limited to one party.
Joe Griffo: Career politician who has moved from mediocre performance to mediocre performance. Biggest accomplishment was changing regional name from Leather stocking Country" to "Central New York".
Destito: Made a career using her position to benefit herself, her business and her family. Couldn't wait to move on up to Albany when her ship came in.
Sherry Boehlert: Master of the "political speak" . His ego and inflated sense of self importance never allowed him to walk away from an honor, accolade or building named in his honor. Had a "For Sale Sign" on the front lawn of his New Hartford Home as soon as he announced he wasn't running for re-election. Now continues to live off the political system as a Washington Area Consultant. Of course, he can be enticed to grace us for a visit in order to receive another award for his "years of public service."
Dave Roefaro: Used his position as mayor to implement a blatant Friends and Family Plan culminating in the hiring of the grossly incompetent LaBella in the critical position as Police Chief. Would be run out of town on a rail if he was running for re-election. His reward for a job well done? Headlining a Democratic Fundraiser at $45 a pop. Mike Arcuri: Brought a sense of Political arrogance and entitlement to the position of Congressman. Barely lost to a political new comer in an otherwise Democratic landside destroying his chance to cash in as a New York Senator. Now held up as an example of success and you can have the pleasure of his company for “only $45”.
The entire New Hartford Town Board (Mostly Republicans: Never met a Developer they didn’t like and sees the role of local government to enable out of town developers like Larry Adler. Quite a list….

Wow LJ and Realist, You guys gotta history? This has got lots of heat to it, whats the Rub? I do agree all the names LJ listed are representative of "The same old insiders league" but thats not a Democrat thing, just a New York Republi-Crat Standard for self enrichment.
I think we all know what we think a Conservative or a Liberal think but the parties are clearly not representative of either or both at this moment, I don't know who is what anymore!
Do me a favor Realist, give us all a brief back on the Democrat Focus. I would love to hear the local perspective. I won't be attending any of the Party Parties so someone else will have to report on the Republican Perspective.
Clippers is a think tank of sorts, we share observations, facts, compassion with passion. I don't think the posters are Lurkers or Grenade tossers. B nice or were sending Major Stoney in with her whip!

Politicians. One one hand, they can't be all that bad. On the other, they probably are. From what I've heard about office holders in the Mohawk Valley (or anywhere, for that matter), I sure didn't find myself disagreeing with much of Lionel Joe's descriptions. On the other hand, I'd have to congratulate Realist for wanting to be part of the process and hoping to change things. And I can imagine what she might write about Republicans.

LOL!
I don't have a history with Joe - I don't even know who he is. I'm certainly not a lurker, the mods know how I got here.
I didn't grow up here so I really don't know everyone's maiden name or how so and so were best pals in grade school, so I find the political landscape here fascinating. But what I find most frustrating is the cynicism. I tend to think of myself as a realist (hence the name) and have no trouble putting in the time and effort to to try and change things, but man, folks here can't fathom that anyone would do ANYTHING simply to improve the area - and they'll knock themselves out trying to find an imaginary angle.
So - my name is Beth - I sit on the New Hartford School Board (so I will rarely comment on NHCSD issues here, it's not appropriate for me to do so) and I do get involved in politics, generally from behind the scenes. And for a completely bleeding heart reason: I grew up poor, and it sucked. And I had the advantage of a mother who took care of my brother and I. I feel like we end up where we end up for a reason in life - so if I can lend I hand, I will. But seriously, I have three kids - I don't have time to stalk message boards! : )
JG - frankly, I can't tell the difference is between Republicans and Democrats in local politics - I think that rarely matters. What DOES matter is finding people who can put the political rhetoric aside and do what is best for the area - no matter what side of the aisle those ideas come from. I've only met a few people willing to do that. (And those that do, get their heads handed to them.) But until that happens, Utica as an area is screwed (IMO).
