And after all that, I didn't even get to go. Instead, I'm sitting at my son's baseball game. Even Joe can approve of that!! Sure... I enjoy taking my kids to to the Syracuse Chiefs every summer. It is one of the treasures we do have in our area. I miss the Utica Blue Sox.

Clipper - in a special twist of irony, my daughter hit me in the chin with a softball throw yesterday. Last night, my hubby's dream came true: I couldn't open my mouth to talk. Today, I can talk, but I wouldn't be able to chew that fabulous chicken!!

My Great Uncle Mike played for the Blue Sox and went on to play for Baltimore and then the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, who became the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a star fielder and is in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. See: morestories.proboards.comClick on the History board and then on Great Uncle Mike.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that Realist. I hope you are okay. When I played shortstop on a softball team in my thirties, I was smacked in the chin and mouth with a bad hop that loosened some of my teethand split my lips. The person that named that missile a "soft" ball obviously never had one come across his chin at about 80mph, lol.

Beth, sorry to hear that. Hope you're feeling better. It was a good time. Probably one of the best times I've had at a political fundraiser. Very nice crowd and everyone seemed to be getting along well. I usually leave early but ended up the last one to leave.

Last one to leave? Didja think to get a doggie bag for Beth?

Thanks Larry and Bobbie. I'm getting along. Kids are really hazardous to your health. This particular daughter also broke my nose when she was 3, so I should have known to wear a facemask when playing catch!!

Last one to leave? Didja think to get a doggie bag for Beth? Clip, I have a feeling she wouldn't have wanted it. Not that Valley View doesn't have great food, but it was your typical buffet. I let loose and actually had a few drinks for the first time in a LONG time. Which may be why I had such a good time. It was a pretty good crowd, and after all the talk about Arcuri and Roefaro, both showed up later and just mingled for a bit. Believe it or not, most people at these events aren't the "insiders" that we complain about. Most are just normal people looking for a quiet night out. And it's always fun to get their take on issues. I remember right after I won my election in 2007, I bought a couple tables worth of tickets for an Arcuri fundraiser. Many of his detractors attacked me for it, but my intention was two fold. I would've attended anyway, but I wanted to have a couple tables for people from my community that have never been to a Congressman's fundraiser before. I thought it would be great to give them a night out and also give them a chance to network with politicians that make the decisions that effect them. I still took heat on a few blogs, but those that came (about 15) were very appreciative and felt like they actually had a seat at the table for the night. Which is how it should be. Unfortunately, not everyone feels comfortable going, or can't afford the tickets. So, in my humble opinion, I thought it was nice gesture. I'd like to do more of that when I get in over the West Utica seat. Like the old saying goes, 90% of life is showing up. If we can start getting people from the inner city to show up at these events, politicians will take our area more seriously, and it will make my job easier when fighting for issues important to the area - because they'll know I have the people behind me. Just a thought.
