Today I received a notice in the mail from the OD that beginning on Oct 23 they will be delivering the paper via the USPS. Soooooo, weekly subscribers will be getting their paper whatever time of day that their mail carrier brings the mail. Sunday subscribers which we are, will be getting the Sunday paper on Monday, unless Monday is a Federal holiday & there's no mail. Gone are the days of reading the paper with your morning coffee, unless you save it & read it the next morning which will be old news, unless you pretend it's the day before.
Does that mean the Sunday edition is now the Monday edition? Asking for a friend.

Basically the same thing that happened to the Brisrol paper. Circulation dropped, I haven’t subscribed in awhile. They cut the number of days that the print, lost the weekly advertising for both Kroger and Food City who were probably the largest contributors to their ad revenues, started losing both carriers and subscribers, and they seem to be headed in the same direction that the OD is.
When the dependability of the carriers was causing missed deliveries sometimes several times a week. I would call to tell them that I didn’t get my paper and their solution was to deliver it the next day or credit my account.
I was paying for a daily paper that oft times was late which meant I had already read all the news on my IPad while having my coffee. I don’t miss the printed paper. I pick up the grocery ads at the store and read my news on the IPad or computer.

Read the e edition in the morning along with your coffee which what I was doing a little while ago. It is the same as the printed version and very easy to use. I like. I do not get the paper edition and only use the e edition.

I do not get the paper edition and only use the e edition. That might work for some, but our paper has gotten so small and so lacking in news that even the E-edition is not worth reading. It has gotten to a point where a person can read the entire paper, from front page to classifieds in about 5 minutes and half of that news is old news taken from the wire services and is stories that other media outlets have already gotten the jump on. I just save 20 bucks a month by not subscribing to their substandard paper.

I'll probably cancel it when the mail delivery begins. It will be old news either way. By the time the paper is printed, arrives at the P.O., processed & the carriers ge their hands on it who knows when ot will arrive. The handwriting is on the wall. It's a shame that local newspaper's are a dying breed for the simple fact that corrupt politicians & other public officials will answer to no one who is reporting & questioning in the free press their activities.

The news on the rest of the paper I get from other websites. Google News is great.

You are correct on that. I send a gift card to my nephew who lives with his parents on Albany hill Pond Land. It took one week to get there. I figured it would only be a day or two. Nope 6 days.

USPS? Thats insane but I guess thats what will be happening soon to all the papers. I stopped getting mine about a year ago. Only got the Sunday paper but it kept getting thinner an thinner. No content but ads and price kept going up. Most of the time got no paper at all. I don't want credit. I want to read the paper. If paper was late the managers always came later in the day but those are just memories of good service when we had it. My BIL still gets the paper but said its hard to find delivery anymore. No one wants to work anymore…just a paycheck.

My Sunday OD was delivered today with a note from our carrier saying that as of 10/23 he was "losing his job" because the OD is using the USPS to deliver the paper & he was asking that he receive his Xmas tip before then. So, I'll pick up a thank you card this week & leave it for him next week with his tip enclosed. And I'll be cancelling my paper for taking jobs away from people who make little to begin with. Shamefull IMHO.
And it's not the Sunday paper if it's delivered Monday no matter what the header says.

Now you will have to leave a xmas tip for the mail carrier........just get the OD using the online version and then the Sunday edition will be the Sunday edition. Gee what will people use to drain fried chicken and fish on.

I don't tip my mail carrier. I tip the OD carrier, my barber, when we order out or when he eat at a restaurant which is rarely & that's about it. I'll tip a service tech who is coming this week to look at our GE washer that won't spin. I'm glad I took the bait & bought an extended warranty on it from Lowe's about a month ago, so it shouldn't cost me anything to fix it.
Don't ever buy a GE washing machine. They're crap. I hope the gearbox is shot because if it is they have to replace it per the contract. Hardy har har.

If paper was late the managers always came later in the day but those are just memories of good service when we had it. My BIL still gets the paper but said its hard to find delivery anymore. No one wants to work anymore…just a paycheck. When I was transportation manager I was one of the managers that delivered papers later in the day. We did have a driver that delivered shortages and skipped papers until 10am each day. After that it was the responsibility of the district manager to insure deliveries. When someone didn't show up to deliver their route the DM was authorized to pay someone to deliver the "down route." Myself and my assistant manager would occasionally stick around when we got off at 7am to help one of the DMs by delivering a down route for them. When there was a press issue and the paper didn't come out until late the down routes were numerous. Many of the motor route carriers had day jobs and couldn't stick around to deliver late. When the issue was with bundle deliveries due to one of my drivers not showing it was my responsibility to insure delivery, whether it be by me or someone else working overtime to insure that stores had their bundles, the vending machines were filled, and all the carriers had their bundles . It made for a long work day when I was supposed to work from 10pm until 7am and ended up delivering papers until 10am or so.

Well, no Sunday OD today. I called customer service # & of course got a message, office is closed. I was able to report it, then I was informed that the OD was "unable to deliver my paper today"! I don't know if the carrier stiffed me or if this is on the OD. I suspect it's the latter.
