Unfortunately boats are not known for great fuel economy. We haven't had a boat in many years but when my parents were alive we had 24 foot pontoon with a 90hp Yamaha outboard motor. We often went over to the lake and took the boat out and cooked supper on the onboard little gas grill. We would anchor in a little cove off of the main lake, cook on the grill and relax on the little sand beach or sit around a small fire for a while before cruising back to the marina.
The motor was a two stroke so we bought gas from a pump on the dock at the marina. The price was outrageous even back then. The gas for a little trip to the cove and back and a slow and leisurely cruise around the lake would often cost us $15 or more.
We often would see a huge houseboat anchored in cove also. It belonged to a dentist from Knoxville. They basically did the same thing we did and went to the cove to get away from the boat traffic on the main lake and the kids could swim or ride their jet ski. That boat was huge. It was big enough to have a helipad on the top deck and the family flew to the boat from Knoxville in the family helicopter. The boat had two large diesel engines and I can only imagine what it cost to fly the helicopter to and fro. The houseboat was a monster. It had a boat lift and jet ski ramps on the stern. They could launch the jet ski or the ski boat from the houseboat.
The cost of fuel for all their toys for a weekend would probably make a down payment on a small house with today's fuel prices.
We talked to the man and his wife once when they were on the beach in the cove. They were nice people and seemed down to earth, but the dentist had on a pair of sunglasses that probably cost as much as our boat did, lol.

We took care of whatever balance was left on our Home Depot card yesterday. We made our annual trip for Barb to purchase blooming plants. In addition to filling our 3 hanging baskets we bought 2 lilacs in addition to the one I had already ordered. I did too much digging today. Now I am sitting and drinking cold water.
I don't even like to look at gas prices. We are still planning a trip to MN this summer.

Be careful working outside in this heat CB. I have noticed that no matter how well hydrated I stay I tire more easily and have to rest much more often. I noticed that I am easily tired this summer with activity. I just gave the car a quick wash before we head out for a doctor's appointment and to do some shopping. 15 minutes and I was sweaty, tired, and needed to rest before I grabbed a shower. I have never lacked stamina like I do since I had covid on top of getting old.

We were at SB this weekend. He has a 20 ft runabout & there were plenty of boats out there Saturday along with some good size yachts. We didn't buy gas from the marina because it's over $5/gallon.
Speaking of Sylvan Beach. The OIN is now taking reservations for rental cottages on the canal at the former Mariner's Landing Marina which they bought & redeveloped. Wanna getaway? A weekly rental from what I heard will set you back only $2500., pontoon boat included with dock space. Yessiree Bob.
If you get bored you can always head over to their casino in town & blow a hole in your bank account the size of Oneida Lake.

"If you get bored you can always head over to their casino in town & blow a hole in your bank account the size of Oneida Lake."
We usually do okay in the main casino in Verona, but we went to Chittenango and to Bridgeport and lost our ass. The Yellow Brick Road is a dump. Bridgeport is a decent place but the machines were not paying. I finally bought $100 worth of chips, went to a "let it ride" table. I went up and down for about 45 minutes and finally had a hand that paid me $200. I grabbed my chips, cashed out and we left. Kathy didn't hit anything. She ended up losing about 60 or 80 dollars. It only blew a small hole in the our wallets the size of Hinckley lake, haha.
We have contemplated taking a 3 or 4 day trip to Tunica Ms to the casinos. We can get a free one night hotel stay and $50 free play apiece. The last couple times we have stayed there we got some free play every day we were staying in their hotel as well as a discounted rate on the room. There are a half dozen major name casinos in the area. But as is the case with a trip to NY for a couple of weeks, gas and lodging costs will play a part in deciding whether to go to one or the other or both.

Today starts in New York State the cut on sales tax on each gallon of gas. News just said that could mean a saving of 18 cents on each gallon. I also ready the kickoff will start depending when gas stations receive there next shipment!!!!! Now that does not seem very fair to me after all the price of gas has been increasing daily and no new shipments of gas are coming in to warrant that increase.

Gas prices are all over the map here today. While I was out shopping I saw stations with gas for $4.55, $4.59, $4.77 and one station charging $5.05. Gee I wonder why that station didn't have a line at the pumps, lol. With a 50 cent spread it is almost worth it to drive a little out of the way to fill up. Even with out little car, filling it when it hits 3/4, a 50 cent difference is 2 bucks.

It's gone up here about $.25 in the past week. I joined BJ's because they sent me an offer to join for $25.00 for a one year membership. Today I paid $4.75 there, pumped $35.00 in & that got me about 1/2 tank. I figure we're looking at $6/gal. by Labor Day.

It just seems odd almost planned cause when the tax relief started on each gallon of gas the price of gas climbed. I have seen $4.99 non member and $4.89 member price all over Utica today and up at the corner of Burrstone Road credit card was $4.99 and cash was $4.89. Last night on news said some places are already at $10.00/gallon. If that happens in Utica how will many get to work that own cars. Ridership is up on CENTRO Buses that I have seen some complain of the waiting which I just laugh at. I probably lose a couple of days a month with all the waiting I do for a Bus. But then I am single and old and approaching the grave or oven so it is not a big deal. Like a retired accountant who lived and worked in New York City said when I asked him why did he return to Utica. He said I am just waiting for death. Besides he said you cannot live comfortably down there on retirement cause the price of living eats it up real fast. He lived at Peretta Twin Towers and died a few months ago.

They're gouging the public because it's the summer travel season & they're making up for profits lost during the pandemic when people stayed home.

Tennessee is proposing financial breaks for residents in areas other than temporarily pausing the gas tax. There are proposals to waive vehicle registration fees for 1 year, and other proposals to waive the grocery and food taxes temporarily. tennesseestar.com/2022/03/26/tennessee-considering-waiving-vehicle-registration-fees-for-a-year/. We pay sales tax on groceries here instead of paying a state income tax. It was a bit of a shock when we first moved here, but even with the tax on groceries the cost of living still is lower than what we were used to in NY. Tennessee tax on groceries is 7%. I do most of our grocery shopping on the Virginia side where the tax is only 5%. With states proposing waivers to different fees and taxes I think that in order to have a significant savings impact a combination of waivers is going to be necessary.

There's a perfect storm brewing. Inflation thru the roof, gas prices skyrocketing, supply chain issues & now China is reopening from the pandemic which will mean their demand for oil is going to spike big time causing the cost of gas & energy to rise even more worldwide.
We're in for a rough ride.

At some point we are going to pay for what we "save" during the waiver periods. Governments are going to recoup the loss of revenue at some point.

An exec for GasBuddy said he believes that gas in the U.S. will average $6.29/gal. this summer. Why sure! Oil producers are refusing to increase production because theyre raking in record profits from the shortage they've created, thereby enriching executives & big money Wall St investors.
The greed merchants win again, the consumer gets screwed & nobody does a thing about it.
