A half a mile in both directions? No wonder they ran out of vaccine. Kathy is on the list to be called when they get more. I am hoping to get mine before spring. Hopefully in the not too distant future. I will be part of the next group. I didn't inquire, but I might be qualified now seeing as how I have coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and and borderline diabetic. I shall have to inquire about it, but as the article states, they are getting thousands of calls a day. Getting through on the phone right now is nigh on to impossible. The article to the left of the vaccine clinic article tells a story about the numbers of people contracting the virus here locally. Our county is among the hot spots at the present time and the numbers are expected to continue to rise for now due to the expected surge as a result of holiday travel and large group gatherings.

They just showed the lines on TV for today. The traffic is so snarled in Blountville that they are not going to hold the drive thru clinic there again tomorrow. They are going to find a better site where it will not snarl traffic. I was thinking that they should move it to the speedway. There are huge parking lots and miles of roads within he speedway/drag strip area. That complex and parking areas covers at least a square mile or more.

I have't heard anything other then health care workers & first responers in this area getting the vaccine. Of course, Cuomo & county executives are in their usual turf war over who is going to administer it to the public. Imho, local health depts should be the ones to do it & leave Albany the hell out of it. Just give us the damn vaccine & local health experts will get it into people.
I'm 64 & it will be late spring until people in my age group are eligible the way things are going with the rollout.

In Utica the vaccine needs to be delivered to local pharmacies so they ALSO can vaccinate people. From what I have heard only one place is being used and that is St Elizabeth School of Nursing which is crazy. No reason at all why local pharmacies cannot also vaccinate people who want vaccinating. I get my flu shots at Walmart free of charge and just finished getting the second dose of Shingles vaccine at Walmart for free. If I had to get it at my Doctors office a charge would be involved. I think $300.

They indeed need a better plan! WKTV had a link on their site to check when you were eligible for it, but all it does is tell you if you are eligible for it now, nothing for future information. Not sure when essentials in the food chain are eligible, but it would make more sense for them to give the vaccine to Walmart when our turn comes and just have them administer it to our employees. Traveling to one designated spot will certainly be a royal pain.

Here is the proper technique for administering the vaccination. Deltoid muscle are should NOT be squeezed. Many are squeezing thus no getting the vaccine in the muscle but in fat tissue.

Pizzaballa: There are reasons why pharmacies and stores are not set up to do vaccinations of the vaccine 1. The vaccine has to be kept at a certain temperature. Most pharmacies and or stores do not have the refrigeration necessary. 2. some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to the vaccine. Pharmacies and or stores do not have nurses and or physicians on staff to assist these individuals in a situation where time is of the essence or they may need watching or an immediate antidote. 3. pharmacies are covered under HIPPA and have some access to patient records, though limited, stores have none.

Artsyone, I hope you are not developing any symptoms that might indicate you have the virus again. You are certainly in my prayers. Here in Bristol some pharmacies are gearing up and training people to vaccinate people. I was at CVS yesterday to pick up a prescription for Kathy. There was a long line at the drive-thru so I went into the store. The lines have been long for several weeks due to the fact that they do covid testing at the drive-thru. I commented on the long line. The tech that waited on me was telling me that they recently received an 8 foot tall, heavily insulated freezer unit designed to hold the vaccine at the appropriate temperature and that CVS is now training some of the technicians and pharmacists to give the injections. She said it is going to be less than convenient for store personnel and they have yet to figure out how and where to have the people wait for the required 30 minutes to see if they have an adverse or allergic reaction before leaving the store. At the present time all they have is a chair behind a cloth screen where the pharmacist has routinely given shingles and flu vaccines. They have but one chair located right next to the counter where you pick up prescriptions. Lines are expected to be extremely long again tomorrow for the county health department vaccination clinic. They DID do what I suspected they might do and moved it to the speedway to eliminate the snarled traffic it has been causing in the middle of Blountville. The health department building where the clinic was held is only a couple hundred yards from the main intersection in the middle of town. It created a traffic nightmare. People have waited up to 4 hours to get vaccinated and have started arriving at 4 or 5 in the morning when the clinic doesn't start giving the shots until 8am. The 6 o'clock news last night interviewed a woman 104 yrs old who had just received her vaccine. God bless her. As for me, I would not want to get the injection at a pharmacy. I want to be where there are medical professionals available to treat any adverse allergic reaction to the vaccine. I am hoping that the VA will be giving the vaccine at their satellite clinic here in Bristol or at the VA medical center in Johnson City. Both my doctor as well as Kathy's recommend that we get the vaccine when we can even though we have at least a short term immunity having recovered from the virus.

Clipper: this is excellent that stores and pharmacies have begun setting up there systems to better accomadate those in need and we are all in need. This vaccinating campaign will be ongoing, like rubella or polio vaccines and once systems are in place, the delivery of the vaccine to arms should go smoothly. It's very hard for a country such as ours with what I call a fractured health system to start from 0, I call the health care system fractured because of the disparities in health care delivery relating to financial class. However, that's a political statement and I said I wouldn't do that. So, I won't. As far as what is happening here, I don't know. Shots are being distributed by MVHS. Re: my health: I am just very tired. Today I was thinking I would like to do a history thread. What is it that you think the members are interested in?

Yeah I read that pharmacies some of them will be receiving all that is necessary to hold the vaccine at desired temp so as to administer it there along with staff that can handle medical allergic reactions. I also read that if you have a allergy to anything then check with your Doctor before getting the vaccine. I have several allergies even a food item allergy so I have to check first. I'll wait. Hopefully the vaccine that DOES NOT NEED SUB ZERO REFRIGERATION will be shipped to pharmacies throughout the USA.
I do hope the vaccine is effective but I have my doubts since the new mutation which is a fast spreader and more dangerous is expected to become the DOMINATE form which is thought that a new vaccine will be needed. Who knows!!! Also another mutation is now in South Africa. So prepare maybe this will be the end of the world as we know it. How wonderful.

Barb & I got our test results back, both positive. Two weeks quarantine for us. I hope all goes well for the two of you while in quarantine. This is the second time for testing positive isn't it. That is interesting since I figured if a person tests positive some antibodies have to be present to make the test positive so we can become infected with this more than once. Interesting I think. I wonder how that rolls out in terms of receiving a vaccine and how long immunity will last. I wish they would have actually tested that before rolling out the vaccine . I have my doubts. Maybe the vaccine is being given knowing it will at least give a false hope to people. Now to worry about this new dominate mutation that is out there infecting at a very rapid path and will the current vaccine be effective.

I would like to do another history thread: As it seems that everyone posts here, this is my question: What would anyone like to know about? Here are some of the choices that I have info on: Utica: history of Rutger Park focusing on the Conkling House with pictures, Erie Canal history focus on building the canal in Utica, (pictures) or photos of the Olbiston taken by myself in 2015, with a focus of the outer architecture, photos and cards of vintage stores in downtown Utica, Parks and places. These are just ideas, I have a lot of information, but perhaps someone else can jump in on this. Thanks.

Anything that sparks reminiscence and takes us back to better days in the city we love. You have such a great memory and a talent for researching and talent for writing. I am ecstatic to see you back and look forward to whatever you decide along the lines of area history. As for me, I reminisce often and love to think back and remember businesses that have come and gone, people, places, and things from my childhood through the present time. I have so many great memories of growing up in CNY. Any of the subjects you mention would be interesting, and old photos always peak my interest. Your past writings and photos of Rutger Park area were interesting.
