They called me this morning to notify me that my covid test came back positive. Caught me off guard. I haven't been sick. I ran a low grade fever for a day or so back 10 days ago or so, but have felt fine ever since except for a runny nose. I thought it was just a cold and the sniffles with the weird weather we have been having. They said I probably had "fast covid" which is less severe and faster to get over. I am feeling fine other than the sniffles. No fever or other symptoms. I hope I am on the mend.
We need some heavy duty praying though for Kathy. She has been running a high fever for a couple of nights and today her pulse oxygen level dropped to 76. I just dropped her off at the hospital. Please pray for her. I couldn't even go in with her and can't see her or visit. I am devastated. We are never apart. Haven't been apart for more than a few hours for years. Through her six back surgeries and a bout or two of pneumonia I have been at her bedside. When I had my knees replaced and when I had my heart attack, she never left my side. It has only been an hour and I am feeling lonesome and lost already not being able to see her. They will call me when they have tested her and got her settled and on oxygen. I will be able to talk to her on the phone unless of course she gets worse instead of better. Her fever broke yesterday and she felt pretty good today other than a bit short of breath. Prayers needed.

COVID UPDATE: Kathy is doing better this morning after a night of IV antibiotics and anti-virals, coupled with the fact that the first thing that they did for her when she arrived in the covid unit was transfuse her with the plasma with antibodies. She has no fever and her oxygen levels are staying in the high nineties with 2 liters of O2. The nurse told her this morning that she was doing remarkably well for as sick as she was when I brought her in. They said if she continues to progress she may be able to get out in a matter of days, not weeks.
As for me? I am doing fine with no fever or respiratory problems. I still have the sniffles and I feel like I got run over by a truck. Just weak and no energy. The latest development is that I lost my sense of taste and smell. My neighbors brought over cookies and a small sliced ham last night. I ate a couple cookies before bed last night and they were delicious. I looked forward to a slice of ham and a couple scrambled eggs this morning for breakfast. I noticed that as I warmed the ham in a pan and made some toast that I couldn't smell a damned thing. I sat down to eat and I could taste absolutely nothing. Not the saltiness or sweetness of the butter, the smoky saltiness of the ham, or the taste of my strong black coffee. It was like I knew what I was eating but couldn't taste any of it. I could feel the the textures and could sense the acidity of the OJ, but absolutely no smells or tastes. I guess for the immediate future eating will be strictly for sustenance.
They tell me that the loss of smell and tastes isn't permanent and usually passes fairly quickly. Let's look on the bright side. It the sense of smell doesn't come back by the time I recover I can always take a job pumping septic tanks or working on a pig farm. LOL
Have a great day my friends. I am sharing this experience on FB and with anyone I can, just to remind people that this shit is no joke. No maskers disgust me and always have but when I think of Kathy laying in the covid unit I REALLY get pissed when I read a comment by one of the conspiracy nitwits or someone that is just a thoughtless and self centered jackass that doesn't want to inconvenience themselves by wearing a mask.
The fact is in my estimation fairly clear to see. Not wearing a mask allows a person to infect many others. I have always been a faithful mask wearer and when I have forgot it in the truck I go back and get it. The mandate to wear a mask is not enforceable here and there are still those that just don't get it or just don't care.
I hope you all have a great day. I am encouraged by the idea that if Kathy continues to recover as well as she is at present, she may be home for Christmas. If she is doing well but not ready to come home we will just celebrate Christmas a bit later. Please keep her in your prayers.

So happy all is progressing well. Well except for your loss of taste and smell. My brother in law and one of his sons and the sons wife all had the fast form of covid like you experienced. All 5 of there kids somehow escaped coming down with it.

So happy to hear that Kathy is on the mend, and glad the virus hasn't hit you any harder than it has. Thanks for the good news. Hope Kathy gets home for Christmas, but as you say, if it takes a little longer you can celebrate a bit late. Hope you're both feeling 100% real soon.

Thanks Kit. Kathy still seems to be doing okay. The unit is so busy that it is not easy to get a chance to actually speak to a doctor but the nurses are always available to speak with me.
I am still the same. One thing I have to note is that it just knocks the crap out of you. I have to force myself to stay busy and active otherwise I could be content sitting in my recliner, watching tv and napping.
Yesterday I cleaned both bathrooms, ran the dishwasher, washed two loads of laundry, and took a bag of things up to Kathy. Candy bars, bananas, some cash so she could have the nurses bring her a subway sandwich when the nasty food is too nasty to eat, and clean pajamas and undies. I took the dog with me and took a short ride around the area just to get the dog out of the house for awhile. She loves riding in the truck
I was just sitting here finishing my second cup of coffee even though I have not been able to taste or enjoy either of the two cups, and contemplating what I might do to stay busy today. I was going to make a small batch of corn muffins. I love corn muffins with a drizzle of honey, but I am thinking it would be a wasted effort since I won't taste the honey on them or care. Probably have a bowl of Cheerio's and call it done. Not really any sense in even putting sweetener on them.
Have a great day. Stay well and be careful. This shit is no joke for people our ages.

I would love to help you out PB but I am UNDER QUARANTINE, haha. If not I would grab a mop and bucket and a few cleaning supplies and I would be on the next plane.
