I have this sudden urge to rip a loaf of hard-crust Italian bread & eat it with fried hot peppers.

The Table de Hote was in the basement of the Goodyear Service Center, next door to the medical building you're thinking about, Clipper. Goodyear still operates there and there is a restaurant in the basement still -- Black River something, I think.
Back in the day, the basement was the home of the Rathskeller -- the finest drinking establishment in the city. Of course, I never drove after drinking from happy hour to closing there ... nuh uh ... no way ... swear to god.

I stand corrected Frank. It was in the basement of Goodyear. I used to work for a guy that spent many afternoons there. I was instructed to call him there if we needed him for anything, or if his boss came looking for him, haha.

I knew a man named Alsheimer, that lived on Lenox Ave just off of Columbia Square. He was a baker at Dandee Donuts on Mohawk St. A very nice man. He had a speech impediment and was sometimes hard to understand.

Ahhhhhh........Kewpies on the Square!!! YUM!!! How about the Golden Teapot on 5? I remember going there when I was little. Always got toasted cheese sandwich and french fries!!! Hey ralph, Don't mean to burst your bubble, pal, but I know for a distinct fact that back in the early to mid 60s, Kewpies had hired teen help that used to pee in the pickle jars. No kidding. That's no Utica urban legend either. Well, of course -- Uncle Henry's Pancake House. With that little extra something something upstairs. The Wyandott Inn located in Yorkville, corner of Dudley Ave & Calder Ave. You'd get a great fish fry there! Pensero's on Bleecker Street. Tiki Toi on Charlotte Street. I printed there menu for several years. The Original Joe's Pizza in Whitesboro, down on Main Street. Dellers on Erie and Oriskany! I set-up many a monthly meeting for the Utica District Club of Printing House Craftsmen there, I tell you! Wolfie's on Genesee Street across from Ball's Card Shop. The Mohawk Room in the basement of the Boston Store. How about Carol's, on Genesee in South Utica where Arby's is now. Whitey's on upper Bleecker Street. Castronova's Pizza on upper Bleecker. I dunno, I can probably bring up more ... but I've made myself hungry now.

I'm pretty sure Politerri Joes is still open but only 2 nights a week, I know Thursdays but I don't know the other day, the people that I know that order have it for take out. Yup! I used eat lunch there weekly back in the late 1970s. Yeah, I recall that place. Was that on the Corner of Howard and James? ;D My mom worked at DanDee Donuts over on Oriskany Blvd. in Yorkville for a bunch of years until they closed and she went to Holland Farms.

Oh hell, let the tail go with the hide, and make myself look really old. Does anyone remember Wittig's Ice Cream Parlors. There was one in New Hartford on the point where Genessee St and the Clinton Road used to come together before the arterial and all the other stuff up there. They also had stores where Manny's Cheesecake is on Onieda St and the Parkway, one in Whitesboro Plaza. Yes, I recall Wittig's. I also recall where they lived.

Rick, the Rathskeller was a busy popular place in the late 60s and early 70s. I'm not sure why the business died out -- maybe when I stopped drinking for recreation?

Hmmmm......... OK, anyone remember the original Tony's on James Street in Utica? Sure, I think that's where this photo was snapped. I posted this in the "After Bebop A Lula: Utica's Bands of the 50's 60's" thread on Joe Mezz's CNY Forum. (If I'm mistaken, then the shot was from a similar place on South St. near Steuben St. I can't remember its name. BTW, photo taken after a Bel Airs gig, ca. 1962, from left to right is Ralph Mallozzi, Jimmy Hanna, Hank Bowman, Shirley (now) Vivenzo, Guy Vivenzo, my date, me.)
