Denise, if I knew when you will be there, I'd come to meet ya and grab myself a couple of chili dogs and fries. ;D Don't forget what I said. If you go there around 10:45am, just before they open, you won't wait in line.

They also eat a lot of corndogs here, and you can get one at almost every convenience store. That is not my cup of tea either. A corndog is a hot dog that's ashamed of itself.

The only thing that I enjoy at Voss's is there Orange Pineapple ice cream. Other than that I go to Bonomo's for my hamburger and fries!

There's not much better than a loaded super cheeseburger and onion rings from Bonomo's with fat free, sugar free Pistastio for desert.
But waiting in line at Voss' is more entertaining than at Bonomo's.

Love the "hot dog that is ashamed of itself" description dave. I used to grab one now and again when I bought gas, but corn dogs vary so in quality, and freshness that it is a crapshoot to buy one at the convenience store.
I am not into cheap hot dogs, with chicken lips and other anatomical parts farther south on the chicken. I want beef or at least all meat, such as hoffman's or Hapanowicz's.
Where is Bonomo's? I don't remember it, but I have been gone from there since 2002.

Is Bonomo's the little Dairy Isle type place in Kirkland? Nickydoodles is also a new name to me. Sheeesh. I miss Utica and the Mohawk Valley.
Hot dogs here are not as good. Meat markets are non-existent, nothing available to compare to hoffmans. Have yet to find a hot dog with natural casing that snaps when you bite into it. I buy Ballpark franks here. They are the best quality available. Pretty sad, huh?
We do have an assortment of smoked sausage links available. I love the "Hot Links" which are smoked sausage with hot peppers infused into them. Really good, and will pop a sweat on your forehead. the smoked sausage is a little similar to Kielbasa, but smokier.
I recently bought a package of bun sized links of "Chorizo" portugese sausage. I bought the spicy, but they also make a mild style. Nothing here to compare to the Patio, Vosses or any of the others around here.
As my siggy has always said, "Can't wait to come home"!

Yes, Bonomo's is the family owned stand in Kirkland. Nicky Doodles is a similar but larger place in West Rome across the Boulevard from McDonald's.
I always assumed Chorizo was Mexican. It makes terrific breakfast burritos.

Every summer I think I'm going to go to Voss's when I'm in town. Every summer I drive by Voss's when I' in town. Every summer I decide there is no way I'm going to wait in that massive line for a hotdog, and I go to Tony's for a pizza instead! :-o
Maybe this summer I'll get to Voss's. It's been probably 12 years since I've had a hotdog from Vosss.

Frank thanks for pointing out the finer points of being a good short order cook. I was one many years ago and I really did enjoy the challenge of getting al the orders done in a timely fashion, everything coming out to the dine hot and complete, especially Friday night fish fries. I worked for a while at the Hungry Boy in Whitesboro - now the Boulevard, as well as in Ogdensburg and also in Arizona. While it wasn't a lifelong career, it was an enjoyable job and paid the bills in the old days. I'd nearly forgotten that I ever did that kind of work. It's hell to get old!

Hebrew National is a very good brand of hot dogs. If you pay attention to the ingredience look for mechanically scrapped meat and stay away from that. I don't like nerve endings along the spinal cord used in my hot dogs. These processing companies have quite the nerve.

With the high standards of Kosher law, I think it is most likely pretty safe to eat anything kosher. There are many kosher products in the supermarket that have a small trademark of some sort that designates "kosher" inspected food. I am not sure any more what the little mark actually is, but it insures a quality product, even for non jews. Concerned, I am also not sure, but I think is has been passed into law, that it is no longer legal to use any portion of the spinal cord, or brain in processed meats any more. I could be wrong about that also. I read so much in so many places, I can't keep track of it all, haha. I guess if I am going to read so much, I should make a point of "retaining" more!

I remember when you worked at Hungry Boy lrtill. You were a full fledged cook, and didn't just roll hot dogs back and forth on the grill, haha. Ya also fattened up a lot of truck drivers when ya cooked at the truck stop in O'burg. Hell, at the Hungry Boy, if you kept Ray Seakan filled up, you were working full time, haha.

Oh that man! He used to come in and order 2 or 3 complete meals and then a couple of banana splits to wash it all down with!
