Clipper, no Moose here only Rotary and Lions. Chuck, thank you for the feedback. Jon did record the band one Sunday evening in Lake Placid. I have that reel to reel tape and a cassette transfer. It turned out fairly well. The sax is the dominent factor in all of the taping. I also have some vintage film of the band at Mayfair Park with Eric, Tony, Joe and mysef. Some of the film is risque for its time. Ah, That is the extra curricular activites in some of the booths.

Chuck here - In 1965 (don't remember exactly when) we recorded a number of cuts on tape at a teen dance in Yorkville as an audition tape that Gene sent to someone to get Eric and the Chessmen booked into NYC. I think that tape was used to get us the Metropol gig and from that came the booking at the Peppermint Lounge. I have no idea what happened to that tape but I would love to have a copy of it should it ever surface. Perhaps someone got hold of Gene's library of music - I think he kept tapes of the groups he booked - and, if so, perhaps that person would be willing to share them with us. I'm sure a bunch of you guys out there can record from the taped into digital form on your computers but in case anyone needs that sort of help as well as help eliminating background hiss and static that was so prevalent in the old reel-to-reel tapes, I can handle all that capability on my system. I can produce .wav or mp3 files and usually do them at 320 as opposed to the typical 128 baud rate. The fidelity is significantly better that way. If anyone has any old video, I can clean that up pretty well also. It would be great if some of the old performances and auditions surfaced. We could all enjoy some really good stuff for allot of the groups that graced the central NY area of the 60s time frame. --Chuck--

Hi Chris in reply to post 1604 and photos.
I think you are referring to Estelle Cicchelli (Ruggerio) and Ellie Bassone? Estelle and her brother Joey who was one of my close childhood friends have both past on as we know. But I thought I saw Ellie at Walmart maybe 4-6 weeks ago or so .... from a distance away. Has she passed on recently?

Hi Tracman...... I was referring to the name of the band (in the photo above) that I am not able to remember. All I remember is the name Carmen who was the singer and the guys in the photo are from the band. It's been a while since I last saw Ellie (at Estelle's funeral) I hope she is still alive and well. I think that was the last time I was in Utica also.

James, all neat songs. And I liked Winter Song and Baby Boomer, too. I'm a fan of the Mental Detectors!

Thanks to all who checked out "The Broccoli Patch". The song "Baby Boomer" is Part 1 of my early Utica up-bringing, and mentions my Bass instructor Gene Rice (not by name). I'll be posting part 2 (Jing-Joey) soon. I wrote the lyrics to all 3. Lyrics to the "Winter Song" by Tim O'Loughlin. The Broccoli Patch features myslf on drums, bass, and vocals. My other band "The Hogs" will perform @ The Hickey Tavern May 2nd. in Allegany NY near Olean 10-2.

James, I am not sure whether I ever got back to you about your request to post this to the forum. I apologize. I have been occupied with a friend with a brain tumor among other things, and have not been as attentive as I might be to the forum and such things as your PM asking if it was appropriate and okay to post your song.
I enjoyed the music very much. Seems like only yesterday that you were just a kid playing in our back yard, haha. Great tunes! (Hell, it seems like only yesterday when WE ALL were young and playing in our back yards, LOL)
