We've had fish from there. They do a nice job and it supports the fire dept. But they do get heavy handed with the fries. My husband decided he wanted pizza and wings so that's what we had. Franco's in Whitesboro is doing their wings by deep frying and then grilling them or char broiling them. We had bar-b-que. They were fantastic.

Whoa, I'm all over that! (Franco's). I hear Fric n Frac's is closing soon and I'll need a new source of my brand of surf and turf (fried haddock and spicy wings)

You guys are making me jealous again. I think surf and turf here in Bristol requires one to order a Big Mac and a Filet-o-fish sandwich and have them put them in the same bag. ;D

Does anyone remember going to Nellenbach's tavern in West Branch (Rt. 26)? I enjoyed many a surf and turf consisting of pickled herring and beef jerky while sitting at the bar there.

Yep, been there and done that also. I ate one of those "blind robin" things once too. It was a dried out smoked herring. What the hell correlation there was between that and a bird was beyond me. I know one thing. If you eat those nasty things and drink lots of good brandy, and wash it all down with beer, it will give ya extra distance when ya puke! My drinking and eating habits when I was a drinker, would have left you scratching your head. I would order a shot of the best brandy or cognac on the top shelf of the backbar, and then wash it down with a Matt's split, haha! Kinda like putting ketchup on prime rib. Seriously, and back to the subject, Nellenbachs had a great fish fry years ago, and my favorite up in that neighborhood was the Point Rock Hotel.

CG, was tht ou in the cow suit on the OD homepage this morning?? Getting a massage is cool. Could ya feel it through the big bulky cow costume?
I think ya need to go down to the barn and massage each and every cow. They work hard and deserve a little pampering, haha! ;D

No, that was not me. I was standing off to the side. I got my massage earlier in the morning with the costume on and people took a picture but not the OD. I didn't want to put it on again and someone else offered. It's very hard to see out of.
They do have chiropracters for animals now. I had one work on one of my horses once. I'm sure cows need it too!

We have a veterinary chiropractor here in the area. One of my neighbors had him visit one of his horses when it had a problems after taking a fall. It is amazing the advances that are made in veterinary medicine that carry over into treatment of humans, and also the human treatments that are modified to benefit animals.
;D I can still envision you massaging a cow's shoulders and telling her, "come'on girl, I know ya have more in there. Relax and let that milk down!" ;)LOL

Just figured I'd get it out there quickly. Yeah, Nellenbach's Haufbrau, in the West Branch area is now defunct. Too many underage incidents there, and one too many fights occuring with the kiddie's. Fric-N-Frac's is gone. No more. That and from what I heard, the Colonial will be closing soon too. I also heard Yaworski's is going to be selling or going out of business.

Bummer. Yaworski's is my back-up to the Colonial for fish fry.
Countrygal, I'll look for you in line at Stan's tomorrow night.
OC, I hadn't been to Nellenbach's in over 20 years. The character of the place must have changed quite a bit after Eva and her husband stopped running it.

If I go to Stan's it will be at 3:00 in the afternoon.....no line!
My best friend's husband bartends at the Colonial, I'll have to ask him when/if they're closing.

:)Pinto bean suppers? Pinto beans with a hamhock, and some raw onion and hot sauce. Mmmm! Slap a little butter on a slab of cornbread, and it is heavenly! It is one of those southern things that grew out of limited incomes. Lots of protein, feeds a lot of people, and doesn't cost much to prepare. .................................................................................................... Pinto Beans is definitely a southern dish. My Mom was born and raised in North Carolina and didn't come up here to Utica until she was 20 years old, met my Dad and lived the rest of her life here as a "Damned Yankee" - but her heart was always in North Carolina. As a result, I was raised on many good old Southern recipies - including Pinto Beans which I still eat today. She cooked the beans on top of the stove with Salt Pork as a flavoring and covered the beans with plenty of water. She cooked this over low heat for about 4 hours until the beans had absorbed all the water and the salt pork fell apart. My Dad doctored up the beans by chopping up a white onion over the beans and pouring Kayo Syrup over them. Eating them like this with good old Cornbread was like visiting Heaven!!!!! No one else in my family liked them so when I'm alone and GD is eating out elsewhere, this is what I make for myself.
