I received a message this morning that Jon Hynes passed away last night. I don't have any details as of yet. I will try to find out more and will post the info
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was very active in posting to the band related topics and threads here, and especially for posting the old handbills and posters. I will post more when I find out more.
Keep Jon and his loved ones in your prayers today.

What a loss to all of us! I was lucky to know Jon, first in the Bel Aires around 1960 and 61. I remember him fondly. He was simply a great person. We traveled together to the ClipperFest picnic at Delta Lake and to Jay's first Bands Reunion two summers ago.
I did not now Jon was sick and wondered why I didn't hear more often from him. This is sad. I really liked Jon.

We will all miss Jon. We will miss his Wit, his Smile and his Presence. In the summer of `64 my family bought a house on Leah street , directly across from Jon's. His was the first bass guitar I had ever touched. He was deep into electronics and built the first guitorgan( a 6 string electric with organ sensors) in the area. Rest in peace Brother Jon.

I will post the quote from his facebook page, put up by his daughter. I guess John had been diagnosed with lung cancer and has suffered terribly with pain. The following was posted on his facebook wall by his daughter:
Janice McCullough I wanted to post something for my father Jon Hynes, he has asked for his friends and family to pray and send positive thoughts his way. For those that don't know, a few weeks ago he was diagnosed with stage 4 Squamous cell lung carcinoma that has metastasized to the bones in his spine. He is in a lot of pain and could use all the love and support people are willing to give. If you would like to visit or call him please message me for info. I know he's very grateful for all the love and support he's received so far.
May he rest in peace. I only had the pleasure of seeing him twice in person. Once at the very first little gathering of the forum family at Denny's in 2008, and once again at our picnic at Lake Delta. He was a soft spoken and gentle man and his contributions here will be sorely missed. My prayers are with not only his family, but also with those of you that were privileged to know him and play music with him over the years.

My deepest condolences to his family. I met the man a few times, and he was always so pleasant to talk to, as well as being very complimentary to what you were doing as a performer... He brought so much to the forum, his posters, and ads from years past, as well as the memories I think he was so happy to have shared with us in one way or another... A very talented musician, and a great brother in arms.....God bless....

My brother Dick and I have known Jon for many years, and have the fondest and funniest moments to remember about him. Such a quiet and nice guy. I'm very sad to hear of his passing, as I had no idea how ill he was. I'm sure there are many musicians in the area that knew and respected him, and I'm thankful that I had the pleasure of knowing him, and seeing him last year at the reunion. Rest in peace my friend, you made a difference.

I did not know Jon was ill or passed away until this evening. I am an accountant and this time of year all things are a blur until after tax season. Jon was best man at my wedding 47 years ago. He was the first bass man for the original Chessmen. Very original, innovative, and ahead of his time with his playing. He was the tall man in the group with a very serious grove. Jon introduced and promoted our playing of some of the great classics during our time together. We not only played current rock numbers, but jazz and blues classics, as well as our own compositions. Tony Frontera and Jon were like golve and hand on the stage. I will miss Jon a lot. We had many good days on the road. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Butch DeAngelo

Don't know if anyone else was able to attend Jon's wake but I did manage to go. I left a message on the General Board here on the forum, topic, "Jon Hynes funeral service" for all to read. For those who could not attend I did my best to represent all to Jon's family.

Dave and Chris, it was my pleasure. I truly wanted to meet the family of the man I admired for all his talents in many fields for so many years and I wanted his family to know that their dad was liked/loved by many they themselves never met. I could tell it meant alot to them. I am so glad I was able to go and do this last little act for Jon. Made me happy too.
