When I was 12 I used to come see Jon, Butchie D. and Tony Frontera when the Chessmen rehearsed at Joe Loconti,s and Eric Thorngren's garage on Carlisle Ave. That's what made me want to be a musician and Jon Hynes was a big part of that. A great bassist and a sweet man. rip jon

Jon and I were good friends. He played bass for us in the Bel Aires band. He was an excellent musician, quiet and soft spoken, but, had a great sense of humor. We would drive together to all the band practices and jobs, to save on gas. Jon's parents were fine people who loved him very much, and, aways asked me to watch out for him when we went to a job (Jon was the youngest member of the band). His dad was a retired school teacher. When my wife and I were married, Jon surprised us with a beautiful set of dishware, as a wedding gift. He was very thoughtful that way. Thinking back, I miss Jon and all the friends that have passed on, especially bandmates like Dave Griffin, Gates Intino, Jimmy Palladino, and, of course, Jon. We had great fun back then, making music, traveling around, and, even earning some cash for what we loved to do.
