I understand the same about his brother. Not impressed or excited about the news. Don't see anything changing, except Castro on his death bed and wanted to insure his brother would succeed him. Very smart political move.

I thought his brother was LESS extreme- what will probably happen is that Cuba turns into a China Style Country. Personally I think Americas Embargo has to end- all the American Goods and Ideas that are going over to China and the rest of the world was what make them want to be more like America. Our Goal in the World should be to make the World Just like America (Manifest Destiny is great!). If the rest of the world is just like America they will 1) Buy our Goods and 2) Not attack us. And for those who disagree think of it this way- if we don't make the rest of the world like us, China will make the rest of the world like them .

Rrogers, here, here. Very interesting input. Castro's bro is just quieter then his big brother as he pulls the same crap. Time will tell.

Well, I saw it this morning when I got on my Verizon site.
They quoted someone down in Florida as saying "he was just the leader of the gang but he has a bunch of auxiliary gang members who don't want to see change."
Probably true.
Interesting point you make there RR.

I'd like to see us trading with Cuba again. I might even take up smoking once more...

I'll have to agree. Whether we like their policies or not, there is not much sense shutting them out forever.
We opened the doors to China and buried the hatchet with Vietnam, but keep shunning that little island 90 miles of our coast. Don't make much sense to me.

CBS radio (WIBX) is portraying Raul as being amenable to reforms but who will do anything to avoid embarrassment or dishonor to Fidel.
That may change after Fidel becomes the former Fidel.

The Day After — Cuba: His Brother’s Keeper www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=48"Is there a “morning-after pill” for Cuba’s Day After Fidel? For Cuban officials, the answer is yes. Gen. Raúl Castro will abort such a cataclysm." Interesting short article in Foreign Policy magazine that paints Raul positively. You have to register to read on the site, but it's free.

I guess it's official now. Raul's our man. We may have to wait for a few things to happen before he comes into his own. Fidel's death. Likewise those Fidel sycophants now in power.

So....................another entire generation shot to hell in the wait. Raul is not much younger than Fidel, so perhaps not.

How much longer are the Cubans going to keep all those '55 Ford Customs running?
