Well, not to dwell on what may be, this coming summer already looks like it will not be a pleasant time in the Cornhill area. I have made several forays around the neighborhood, watched the Square from my post at Dunkin, observed the area around Loretto ( Oh God help me!) and kept my ear plastered to the Police scanner. Sounds and looks like this will be a “ very sporty” year this year. I can’t wait.  |

 Yepper Ralph, was home in W.Utica for four days and called the Police five times for music blaring so loud the dishes in my house were rattling, the dog next door barking continuously day and night, neighbors having an open bonfire next door and three over sized unshirted grown men riding up and down the street on a little very noisy, illegal mini bike. Oh sh-t, almost forgot about the husband and wife having a fist fight in the middle of our street, so that's six times I called. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Isn't summer doing to be fun?

Hehehe........Well my camera and I have been very busy...............didn't even have to leave my front porch.
Did get some nice new 00 12 ga, shells for my baby.
They look sooo nice all nestled in bed. LOL!!!
It looks like it will be an extra fun one for sure.

You know Ralph, you and I joke about this but it's pretty horrible when we good people in our homes have to be subjected to all this crap all the time. I really wish more people could actually witness all this crap we deal with on a daily basis. Wonder what they would feel if it were in their neighborhoods.  Really sick of those that have all the answers but don't have to deal with it. Can you tell I'm pretty pissed off after just a few days back home?

Thelma, thank you girlfriend.  Y'all were missed to.  Well, maybe with the exception of a few. ;D I'm back up in Constable. My moving back to Utica for good is on May 2. Have company over for the day now, but will call you later tonight.

Depressing. That's my opinion short and sweet. Between the economy and rising petty crimes, you know that by the time summer gets in full swing with $4/gal plus gas prices, possibly the second or third homicide of the year in Utica, depressing, not being pessimistic, but depressing is all I can come up with. Facing facts, trends and history is what I base my "opinion" on. Bobbbiez, you should stay in the hills, I'm perfectly content with staying in the Falls here and just working in Utica.
My wife is a process server in the city. Been doing it for 8 years now and I always worry about her 4'11" frame. It's her mouth(LOL) and attitude that keeps her safe. She's fiesty for her size but I have seen the way Cornhill people react with her. They know she is not there to take them to jail or take their services away, so they really don't give her a problem. Matter of fact she has told me of times when they have stuck up for her and helped out in locating someone on more than one occassion. Just the same, I worry like hell knowing what "I" know about the areas which I tell her all the time to be careful. I think she is getting out of it within the year, hopefully. Anywho, I think the summer is going to be driven by a poor economy, which is going to yield a higher volume of crimes of all categories. Gas drive offs are more frequent everyday and it hasn't hit $4 yet. Take it for what it's worth. Good Luck all, especially out "utica" friends.

Gosh I hope she stays safe. I know the "ins & outs" of the hood as well, but there is always that "what if" lingering there to worry about.
Too many out there that just plain don't give a rats ass anymore.
I have to agree on the socio-economic issues affecting the overall crime rate around here. From what I have seen as of late it is moving from the east side of Cornhill over to the Square area.
I hate to say it, but if the new center on James Street has the effect I think it will, it will make that push much quicker.
The streets west of Genesee Street are already traveling down a very familiar path and I can see more going west towards Bobbbiez's side of town quicker than I thought it would.
Not going to be a pretty year. This will test the new administrations resolve to correct all this to the limit.

On the flip side, my GD had one of her friends spend the night with us. This girl was like a breath of fresh air and restored my hope for the future of her minority race.
This girl has been brought up in a household headed by her Mom (a Single Parent) who works as a Professional Nurse, along with her brother. This girl is a Junior at Proctor, speaks intelligent English language (no "Hood" expressions at all), had oustanding manners and has set a goal for herself. She wants to be a Veternain and knows which College she wants to attend. They live in the "nicer part"of West Utica.
Her parents are divorced but she also spends time with her father who is a Teacher.
She is a perfect example of what can be done without relying on government handouts and dealing drugs to make a living.

 Amazing! A smart young girl that wants to be a veteranarian, and from a "single parent family" too! Gee, maybe her professional mom, doesn't have to parent alone. SOME divorced couples still care for their children, and the parents are intelligent enough not to resist sharing parenthood. Not every single mother suffered the abuse that you did Thelma. Some, such as my first wife and I, still shared parenthood, and responsibility, and just didn't live in the same house. Being a single parent doesn't have to be a major burden. As I said before, I too was a single parent to teen agers, and didn't get any medals or special treatment. It's like this. I took part in the creation, so I lived up to my parental responsibility. My middle son was the only one that never lived with me, as a single father. And this girl is from one of those "minority" races too! My goodness! Miracles never cease! Professional mother, and teacher father? Damn! A black couple that is obviously smarter, and better educated than many of us are. How ironic. :oI could probably learn from this couple, as could many of us! What do ya know about that. Let me go way out on a limb and wager that the father doesn't wear a doo rag and baggy drawers either. A simply revolting revelation, that there are folks of every social class, and culture, in OTHER races too! Simply a cross section of humanity, but a different color! How bout dat.

I may open a Kiosk on a corner in West Utica, and sell titanium cups and bullet proof boxer shorts!  By September, I will be a millionaire! Then I will come back to Tennessee to MY winter hunting grounds. haha. |
