Makes ya want to run right down there for breakfast with your lady doesn't it? I gotta say, it is getting really dangerous to just be out at night with all the crazies and gansters. I guess probably the other all night places in Rome saw the handwriting on the wall and decided the risks weren't worth the benefits of staying open after the bars close. Denny's needs to get the police officer back in there for security, if they aren't doing so already. Things stayed pretty civilized when there was an officer there all night. If the officer did nothing else, he would be able to call for backup before a fight escalated or got bigger.

Did you guys see all the pictures on the front page, and second page, of the Rome Sentinel?

We go there from time to time. Nothing wrong with that place at all. It's just happenes a bunch of scumbags happened on there at the same time and thats where they settled their differences. Coulda happened anywhere.
I could go on forever how I'd rather go be in Rome that Utica.....

I agree that Denny's is a great place. I didn't mean my post as a negative advertisement for Denny's. When I come back to Utica to visit, I always visit Denny's because there is nothing comparable here in the south. Perkin's and IHOP can't even begin to compete in my book.
You are correct in the observation that it could have happened anywhere. It is happening EVERYWHERE! It is sad that NONE of our streets are immune to the festering, oozing, sores that drugs and violent subcultures have inflicted on our society in late years.
I guess the only REAL safety is in your own home, behind a sturdy, locked door, and away from the windows, but that is not a practical way to live a quality life. I apologize for any assumed inferrence that Denny's was a dangerous place to go. It is a great place and one of the ONLY places to go anymore for late night dining.
Just a footnote, my favorite is still Breakfast at Tiffany's for giambotte. Mmm Mmm good!

One of the two dead guys had been charged with attempted murder on two prior occasions. One of them ended up with a conviction of something else which netted 4 years in prison. Old habits die hard, no pun intended of course. ........................................................................................ Froggy - the man they identified that was killed was Keith Moore, Jr. who was arrested on two separate murder charges; one he served 4 years; the other he was acquited. In addition, he was the father of Keith Moore III, age 17, that was shot and killed two years ago. The killing of Keith Moore III had the kids in Proctor in an uproar and there were rumors for almost a year that there was going to be a retaliation for his death. This guy that was killed had an extensive criminal record. I was reminded by the saying "Live by the sword; die by the sword".

Froggy - the link you provided for the OD article was completely different than the one that was in my paper this morning! I swear they named Keith Moore Jr. as one of the victims and went into detail about his previous arrests and the fact he was the father of Keith Moore III.
Too bad I threw out the paper with the trash, but I know what I read.

Thelma, the link that Kieth Moore had to this incident was that he was previously a victim of a shooting by the Hernandez guy that was killed in this fight. Moore was shot but survived during an incident years back on Bloomfield St in Rome. His kid was shot and killed in Utica by a guy named Robinson, also a while ago. No Moore involved in this fight, or at least not identified as of yet.
The way the OD wrote the article was quite confusing. Typical of the OD. Just wanted to clarify that for ya. Have a good night. I am going beddy bye in a few minutes. I have a long day tommorrow.
God bless Y'all

I was a little taken back by the comments some had during the news on WKTV that nothing like this happens out there. I know that they have their share of problems for a city of that size. And DOJ doesn't grant recognition for a Weed & Seed site unless the is a significant problem there. I hope these people don't all have their collective heads in the sand like some in Utica did a few years ago.

Hernandez was just released from State Prison in 07 for shooting someone. He didn't play well with others in jail and was a known gang (crypt) member. What a looser. Got what was coming to him. No sympathy here. ;D

I was reading the Sunday paper while having my coffee and even read from the article about Keith Moore Jr. to my GD. I knew that Keith Moore Jr. had been involved with criminals in the past so I "assumed" he was involved with this incident in Rome. You're right, the way the OD wrote the article was very confusing (especially for someone that was half awake when reading it-LOL)

;D Haha. I understand that scenario all too well Thelma. I have to have the first cup out of the way, before I even go down to the road and get the paper. I don't see well until I have at least one cup of "hot and black" in my belly. I usually have to brush my teeth, splash water on my face, feed the dog, make Kathy her instant decaf, and THEN I am awake enough to think about getting and reading the paper, haha. I have to keep the steps in order. Splash water and brush teeth first. 1st cup of coffee soon after that, then read the paper, then take the 2nd or 3rd cup and boot up the computer and read the OD page. By the time I have finished the OD, I am on my way to emptying the 10 cup pot and I am fueled up and ready to read Bobbbiez's posts picking on me, and then I shoot off a few replies, haha. I have a question. Was the Kieth Moore III shooting in Utica, the incident that brought about the shitstorm over one of the Proctor ball players not being able to play because of threats of violence if he was at a game last season? I remember an incident, but don't remember any names. Something about the ballplayers brother had been the shooter, and revenge was on the mind of he deceased kid's friends and family. Have a good day darlin. Hope Grandaughter and you are happy and healthy today. Keep smilin!

The shooting death of Keith Moore III created a lot of fear for the students at Proctor for almost a year after his death as there were persistent rumors of retaliation by Keith's friends against the gang of thugs that were involved in the shooting of Keith. The player that was kept from playing the basketball game was a relative of the actual shooter not Keith and also a trouble maker. Attending school at Proctor is NOT pleasant!
