I read the obit this morning on line Kit. Yes, that IS the same Tom Acey. I don't remember any of the band names at the time, but he DID play UFA dances and hops. I only went to UFA for a short time before my parents paid tuition for me to go back to Whitesboro after we moved to N Utica. I remember Tom Acey as a muscular and handsome kid, with a varsity jacket and a big smile. A guy that everyone knew and liked.

In the mid 60s, Tom played with a group called "The Four Synns." I photographed the group for Gene Kipper for their traditional 8x10 glossy and repro. On a few occasions, Uncle Jim couldn't play drums for a gig because of a prior commitment and Tommy filled in for him. A great drummer and he had fun no matter where he was or who he was with.
I saw him in another group over the years when I was photographing wedding receptions but I can't remember the name. It may have been "Everyday People" but I may be mixing that up with a husband and wife duo. It's tough getting old, isn't it?

Jim, his wife Rose and I all graduated from New Hartford High School in the same class. I've been a photographer ever since and I ran into Jim at a wedding reception several years ago. He was playing with "The Warsaw Express." Jim was always a nice, mild-mannered guy and a great reed man. RIP

RIP I wonder if he was the guy who played briefly with Jimmy Hanna, Hank Bowman and myself in what we at first called the Rhythm Kings (and later with Guy Vivenzo and Jon Hynes the Bel Airs.) Jim, Jimmy, Hank and I were all the same age (class of '61). When we first got started a guy from NH named Lowell Sick played sax for us, followed by someone who I'm pretty sure was named Jim and might have been Jim Kolwaite. He was very good on the sax.

Dave, In The Warsaw Express, I believe Jim Kolwaite played clarinet, but could be wrong. Jim Kolwaite, Jim Hanna, Hank Bowman, Lowell Sick and I were all in the 1961 graduating class at New Hartford High School. Here are their photos from our yearbook.

Hey, that's great, Kit. And yes, looking at the photo, it was indeed Jim Kolwaite who played sax for us after Lowell quit to spend more time with his girl friend, if I remember correctly. We continued to exchange Christmas cards with Hank and Raelene(?) through the 1970s, but you know how that goes. I occasionally exchange emails with Jimmy Hanna up in Maine where he has his own printing company. I don't know how long he continued to play, but he was a hit up and down the coast from Boston to Boothbay in the 1970's with this specialized equipment and "one-man-band." We saw him play at Boothbay in '75 or '76.

Dave, Same with our one-time guitar player Gary Flagg. He was with The Nitecaps for a while in 1964. Very good guitar player and singer. Sadly, he left because of personal business and later had a one-man band and was quite popular in the Rochester area. Like me, he's no spring chicken any more and I'm not sure if he's still playing or not. I miss Gary. He was funny and a jokester like me and we had a lot of fun while we were on location in Ogdensburg. Here's a photo of him from 1964...

www.legacy.com/obituaries/uticaod/obituary.aspx?n=allan-roger-foote&pid=186814867Allan Roger Foote 1951 - 2017 WHITESBORO - Allan Roger Foote, 65, passed away on August 16, 2017, surrounded by his daughters after battling cancer for over a decade. Allan was born on October 6, 1951, in Parsippany, NJ, the first of the late Richard and Mary Lou (Beatty) Foote's three children. After graduating from Parsippany-area schools, Allan briefly attended Paul Smith's College, then graduated from SUNY College of Technology. Shortly thereafter, he met and married the former Eileen Schirmer, with whom he had three children. Music was always an important part of Allan's life. He played in several bands as a young adult, including the Lord Sterlings and The Dust Devil Band. Later in life, Allan turned to writing and eventually recording, his own music at home. Allan regularly attended rock and roll concerts with his daughters or friends and once took his entire family to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kansas. Allan is survived by his daughters, Melissa and Audrey, both of Whitesboro and Jessica, of Meriden, CT; two sisters, Colleen, of Saranac Lake and Beverly, of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; his longtime friend, Sharon Parker, of Herkimer; two nephews; and countless friends. It was Allan's wish for those who knew him to celebrate his life and have a good time. We invite friends and family to join us anytime between noon and 4 p.m., on October 7, at the Roselawn, 446 Main St., New York Mills. A concert t-shirt and blue jeans kind of guy, he also wanted everyone to wear blue jeans to the celebration. Acoustic guitars welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.

I read his obituary in this mornings OD online. I must be getting old because after the weather, my next stop on the news front is to read the obits from Utica as well as this area in NE Tennessee. Sadly, all too often I find a friend or someone whose name I recognize listed. I didn't know him, but Allan's name rang a bell so I went on to read the obit. It sounds as though he was a well rounded and very talented musician as well as a man with many other varied interests. May he rest in peace.

Just a quick note- Gates Intino passed away on 12/24/16, in Redondo Beach, Ca. He was 74. Gates was a good friend, fine singer and all-around entertainer. He was my bandmate in the BelAires group, in the mid 60's. My condolences to his family.
