My guy played a lot of music in the Utica Rome area and I just ran these names by him. He knew Don Hale and was sorry to hear he passed. He asked me to add David Andrews; a great guitar player who taught him to play.

Don Hale's twin brother Ronnie sang in some bands also but not nearly as much as Don. He has also passed on.

One of the first, and best "elvis" entertainers in this area, and a solid musician as well... Eddie Arcuri... he had a group called "the flame", or was he known as the flame, and the group was called "The playboys"....... sad ending for that man....

Happy Birthday to Chuck Schoenley on his first birthday in heaven.
I was going to eliminate his account when I saw his name come up at the top of the page today, but then I got to thinking. What about leaving his account open, and then each year on his birthday, his name will come up, and he will be remembered once more by those of us that knew him or remember his music from the 60's.
Does anyone think that would be appropriate, or do you find it offensive to wish a happy birthday to someone who is deceased?
I only knew Chuck casually and vaguely. He was a fraternity brother to my Uncle Jim Gaylord and I think they may have played music together at one time or another.
Please comment and offer your opinion as to how we can memorialize those deceased. I think Chuck is the first one that was actually a member here that has left us. Correct me if I am wrong, and make suggestions if you have any different ideas.

Did someone already mention Bill LaPera? He played both Spanish and Steel Guitars. He was in many bands, one I remember was The Westernaires back in the late 50s and early 60s. They made a few records. They had flourescent paint and tape outlining the instruments and would have the lights turned off and use black lights to make the outlines glow.

No Clipper it's not, I started a list of people who passed away that were members of a band or played a instrument.I was going to say there names at the reunion but I just said let have a few seconds for all the musician we lost in the past. I'm thinking next year to have someone come up from the crowd and read out all there names and then have Ronnie are guitar player say a few words.Ronnie is a pastor of a small church in Rome called Life & Light Community Church. So now you tell me if this is wrong, but what your thinking of doing would let there family know that they are still in our hearts and minds. The only reason that Chuck's name shows up Jay is because he is a member and it is automatically posted by proboard whenever any member's birthday rolls around.
He is the only one that I know of that has passed away that was a registered member of the forum.
If you can think of a way to do it, it would be nice for someone to post memorial messages on the birthdays of OTHER departed musicians, if the birthday info were available.
We have always been about recognizing and remembering those we know and those we have lost. Simply have never had a way to accurately and efficiently archive the information to make the recognition uniform.

Ralph could change Chuck's display name to "ChuckSchoenleyRIP" or whatever you think would be appropriate. Then it wouldn't look like we were unaware of his passing.

I am glad you are going to memorialize them at the reunions, and I guess we will just muddle along and offer our thoughts whenever the opportunity arises. Thanks for EVERYTHING that you do Jay. You have a big heart and what you do for the charity with your proceeds makes it even more worthwhile, along with offering all that great music and fond memories for those of us our age.
