Todd - Just wanted you to know I was NOT offended that you addressed your post to me rather than Bobbiez who has already responded to your opinion. As much as I consider Bobbbiez a dear friend and agree with 99% of her viewpoints, on this subject I agree with you that cop killers(and correction officers) deserve the Death Penalty. Thank you thelma, I did go back and modify the post and I apologize to you for the mistake.

bobbbiez,
Your right I will not argue with someone that uses comments such as "unless it's changed in the last 2 years which I doubt, that is an out right lie", "I don't believe it has been settled yet".
I have worked in a max for 26 months and currently in a medium/max for 13yrs. There is nothing a volunteer can tell me about the runnings of a jail when they have never been down back and probably have been listening to the inmates during their 2-hour God finding class in a remote part of the jail.
At one point you are advocating for the inmate then you advocate for Sheriff Joe it can't be both ways.
I have no problem with God or volunteer work, but not in a Jail. Again, until you have put on a uniform and gone down back and experienced some of the trauma a Correction Officer lives on a daily basis we have nothing further to discuss.
These convict are professional con-men and looks like they got your number

Oh Todd, what makes you think I leaned these "facts" just because of visiting or volunteering in a prison. If you had any knowledge of me what so ever then you would know I'm involved in many, many organizations. Some of where I assist in getting legislation changed for the betterment of all in many things, including issues in prisons.
As far as Sheriff Joe, where was it stated that he advocates for the death penalty which we were discussing before you took off on riding me for my beliefs. I "NEVER" said the convicted shouldn't be punished. I only stated I don"t believe in the death penalty for reasons listed in previous post. I feel Sheriff Joe runs his prison well according to the laws where he serves.
I respect and commend you for your "choice" of work but these inmates have been tried, convicted and found guilty by their peers. They are serving their sentence. Your title is a Correctional Officer which means you have to watch over them, not be their executioner.
I'm going to tell you exactly what I have told my sons, two who are Police Officers and one who is a Correctional Officer, , "if you don't like the job you "chose" to do, then stop torturing yourself and quit. Stop complaining and find something more suitable for yourself and one you can handle more easily."

One more thing. Since you feel you have to attack someone to try to prove your points allow me to respond in the same way.
You are so wrong. No one has my number but I do have yours.

bobbbiez,
This thread is not about how many organizations you help out. If your looking for a pat on the back, this is the wrong post. As far as legislation that you have help to pass to better prisons. Well maybe you could stop holding us in suspense and give an example or is this another pat on the back for you.
The Sheriff Joe comment was in regards to you were so upset and felt the "phone home program" was so unfair I could not imagine how you could condone his rough treatment.
Your twisting my words by calling me an executioner. I stated that I could pull the switch and sleep just fine at night. I very well know what my job title is and don't need a wanna be to try to tell me what it is.
I do like my job, I don't let it torture me and I am not complaining. I do find it irritating for somebody on the outside to second guess me and thinks they know about a profession when they have never done it. I guess it's safe to say your 3-sons don't agree with you or appreciate you thinking you know their jobs either.

One more thing. Since you feel you have to attack someone to try to prove your points allow me to respond in the same way. You are so wrong. No one has my number but I do have yours. There was no attack from me I was debating your statements you made the first personal attack. Read through the post if your memory failed you. Your number comment is confusing. I'm not sure if that is a threat. In any case grab a number and get in line. This is getting old.

Todd, I know what I wrote and there is nothing wrong with my memory. There is a big difference between debating and attacking and trying to belittle someone who doesn't have your opinion. Which you have yet to learn and you are still doing.
The way I was raised and how I raised my boys is to always respect the others opinion even if they don't agree with you. There is total respect in my household and we differ on opinions often on many issues, but we do respect the right of each other to have a difference of opinions. They are proud of me and I am extremely proud of them. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for them or they for me which Thelma can verify in a recent problem I asked my Officer son to help with. He didn't hesitate no matter what my opinions are. And out of respect for my boys and learn more about their jobs I took the time out of a very, very busy schedule to attend the first Citizens Police Academy at MVCC and am a Graduate from there. Ralph can verify that fact since he was one of my classmates. All my boys (no matter what my opinions are), plus other family members and friends, were there to watch me graduate and to be the one who present our instructor, Sgt. Mike Bailey, a plague of gratitude from all the graduates. Yep, you're damn right my boys showed alot of pride that day for their Mom and all told me so with big hugs. So, don't go there young man!!!!!! I hope and pray with your attitude that your children will respect your right to a difference of opinion you might have as mine do.
How I feel about Sheriff Joe is, what I stated in an earlier post, true and he has nothing to do with the "home phone program" being unfair to inmates. You're damn right it's unfair but not to the inmates to the inmate's families for the reasons I listed in a previous post and ,yes, this is one of the improvements I lobbied in Albany for with groups to get improved in the prison system. I must add, which I know you know nothing about, due to the false information you posted. Just as I was the instrument in having the handicap parking spaces placed right in front of Mid-state prison instead of on the other side of another building even further away then the guards had to walk, just as they are placed in front of the maximum prisons. It was not done for the betterment of the inmates but for the handicap who had to visit the prison for whatever reasons. In one of my recent visits I see a few of the guards at Mid-state still don't know what handicap means and are still parking in some of those spots. These are just two things. Would you like me to go on? No need to because it's only important to me what I have worked on for others concerning our prison system and anything else. I didn't mention my accomplishments for that reason. The only reason I have to do it now is because YOU just asked me to. I don't need or want yours or anyone else's pat on my back to continue to do what I feel is right.
Since you can't let go and accept that we just have different beliefs and won't return the respect I have given to you even if I don't believe as you do, I'll clear up one more thing YOU brought up and are confused about. You didn't understand why I responded to you and said, "I got your number." With your attitude I feel you are one of the few guards I've met in all my years of being a visitor in many prisons who treat "all" that come to visit an inmate like they are the prisoner. With a rude attitude and wanting to inflict more pain on the innocent people coming to visit, you justify that treatment and generalize that "all" that come there to visit are just scum like you feel the inmates are. I asked one female guard who worked the visiting room at Mid-state prison why she treated the visitors with decency and was not surprised at her answer. She told me she knew both sides because her son was serving time in another prison and there was no reason to generalize and to want to instill more pain on the inmates families. Does that tell you something Todd? Don't be an executioner. I need go no further. End of any more discussing this issue with you on my part. You have your beliefs and I have mine. Let it go.

There you go again rambling on and making more false accusation, lack of proof and your hear say comments that we have no idea if they really took place. This debate and lack of respect for myself and my profession has gone nowhere since you just keep adding to the mix and honestly it is getting very tiring.
I have never seen anyone take a subject so far of course has you have. I respect your opinion on the Death Penalty although I do not agree. I don't respect you for trying to tell me how a prison runs from outside the walls.
Because of people like you is why other people have the misconceptions about prisons and Correction Officers.
What I have gathered so far is that you have volunteered to preach God and lobbied for a few handi-cap signs (that have always been in front of the buildings for as long as I have been in the system) and you were never employed down back. Yet you still feel you can honestly debate the prison functions with a 15yr veteran that is highly respected and carries a impeccable record that has done this job day in and day out.
I think your a little out of your league, but the academy's are running in full swing. Fill out an application and hop in line.

lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Todd, I'm the one rambling on and making false accusations? I think not! As "fact", the handicap signs were moved where they are now in front of the prison across from the fairly new reception center building in 1991. If you or anyone else wants the truth contact former Commissioner Coughin or the N.Y.S. department for the handicap or MCI and Verizon for the phone debate issue and they will verify that all the "facts" I've stated are true. Easy enough to do if you really want to know the "facts" and what the truth is.
Todd, I have stated many times that I respect your opinion and commended you on your position as a correctional officer, (which I still do), but when I just corrected some of the propaganda about some services you stated, you took the heat and started an attack and I retaliated.
Now, read the last statement in my post at 10:08 again and lets end it. LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good night and God bless.

That was a huge debate a couple of years ago. Prisoners' family members and friends were griping about how much more expensive it was to talk with them on the phone because MCI charged higher prices. There was a push on their end to get the services changed to Verizon or AT&T, but I don't remember if anything came of it. Other than a lot of people on the disgrace forums complaining about the ridiculous rates and others saying that if you did your job in the first place they wouldn't be in prison, whatever that last one meant.

The telephone rate problem, as I remember it, stemmed from the fact that prisoners could only call home collect. And so it was their families who were bearing the brunt of the terrifically high charges. These were often people who couldn't afford it and an argument was made that hearkened back to the "punishing the family" theme. And as I remember it, the rates were really very high, because there was a kickback to the state from the telephone company, providing no incentive at all for anyone to do anything about it.
