If municipalities were sharing space, they wouldn't necessarily be losing their identities.
For Example:
Adams NY:
Previously, Village offices attached to firehouse in Village, Town of Adams (down of the road), offices attached to firehouse. Now all in brand new building in Village of Adams.
Brownville NY:
I believe offices are housed separately, but Village of Brownville, Town of Brownville, Village of Glen Park and Village of Dexter Court are all held together, one night at Brownville town barn.
Clayton NY
Up until renovations were being done on Clayton Opera House, some of the Clayton village offices were housed in that building along with town & village court. They moved over to munipical building where police station is during renovations (I think their were some town or village offices already there). I don't know who moved back to the Opera House location. It was found that the municipal building had more space for the courts.
I find that the older court facilities have a problem with storage space. I visit alot of municipalities for my job, and have seen all types of set-ups. Some not very efficient, and some just got around to computerizing within the last 2 or 3 years! I have no doubt that between Village and Town Court in New Hartford that they are seeing an awful lot of traffic. Town of New Hartford's boundaries stretch pretty far plus they have two busy retail corridors within their jurisdiction.
I checked on New Hartford's website. They have Three different building sites going! That just doesn't make any sense, and it certainly can't be very efficient.
