As of 3:00pm it's now official. Rob Palmieri announced to the press he will run for the Mayor of Utica. He will have my full backing because of my personal experience with him and seeing for myself his true desire to clean up Utica. I have seen Rob many times under pressure in different situations and how well he has handled all professionally but with total control to correct the worse of problems. I also witnessed that today in his home as the TV crews were setting up one of his supporters suffered a bad heart attack collapsing on the floor. Rob took control in getting the victim comfortable, stable until the EMTs arrived and rush him to the hospital. So, when you see Rob on the news, knowing just what happened you will see for yourself just how well the man can handle such an emergency and then keep composed to handle a TV interview. He's definitely got my vote and support. ;D

Rob's a class act. I worked with him for a short time at City Hall and in the community and I can tell anyone that questions his work ethic that he was the hardest working person in city government. Never scared to roll his sleeves up. I've known his family a longtime and they're all class. I was friends with his daughters in high school and everyone loved "Mr. Palmieri". He coached basketball at Notre Dame too. We have a great candidate who actually believes in "teamwork".

On a similar note, Zecca launches his first TV Ad. It will start airing Friday... Anyone recognize any faces? ;D

This will be my first vote for Mayor of Utica; I will be interested in hearing your various opinions on the candidates as I make my decision. I did not register as a member of a particular party so cannot vote in any primary, but I can (and certainly will) cast my vote in a general election.

I know. I was working on the apartment with my Uncle and I didn't want to just walk out on him when he was helping me so much. I talked to Rob and Sue tonight though and it sounds like everything went well with the exception of John. But they say he is doing great, so that's great news.

Rob will have my support. Wish he had ran before, but we're there now and I think he would make a great Mayor.
We worked on a few things together when I was coordinating W&S and he was certainly working for the cause, not just for the money. He has always had the best interest of the citizens of the city at heart.

I guess it boils down to us who worked beside Rob in different situations and who saw him as the hard-working, dedicated man he really is and for us to work just as hard to get him elected. As I told Rob, I will do just that because I do believe in him but if he screws up, I will work just as hard against him. That goes for any candidate I back. I ain't fooling around any more. No more of the candidate who makes promises and then forgets them when in office. Those days are gone. They will be cutting their own throats if they try to play that game.

Actually, I know very little about Palmieri. All I knew of him was that he took Ralph's former position as W & S coordinator, & ended up getting paid twice as much as Ralph did; hence, I had a negative image of this guy. BUT, now that both Ralph & Bobbie are endorsing him (and since I trust their judgement highly) PLUS the fact that Palmieri serves on the Board of Directors of Stevens-Swan (the same board I was a member of for 3 years), I will be rooting for him from afar. Well, at least from Schuyler. Between Palmieri & Kraus, maybe SSHU can get back some of their funding from the city again.

I just remembered: Linda Sullivan-Fatata also served on that board back when I did. I wonder if she's still on it??

You, Rob and Jim are running on a ticket together and a damn good one. You are all backing each other so no matter what comes up, YOU, should be there with them at all times to show that strength of the ticket. Believe me when I say I am so damn busy with remodeling my new house and other things going on in my family but I did drop everything to make my presence known and you being a candidate should do the same. Now, as far as I'm concerned you got one forgiveness from me just don't push it. Keep in mind that if you're elected in Jim's seat as councilman your time will never be your own so you should start now

Even though you live in Schuyler that's close enough to help in an election by word of mouth ( before Clipper gets to that statement....I'm sure you are like me and damn proud of our big mouths ;D) In regards to Rob, (and not taking anything away from Ralph's work efforts at all), and the money Rob was paid in any position he held, he definitely earned every cent. The man has worked weekends and all hours of the night on his own time to correct some very severe problems we in Utica have had in our neighborhoods. I along with other members of the Neighborhood Watch groups throughout Utica have personally witnessed this as a fact. Rob is a lot like me. When we do anything, we work very hard, until all is done properly and corrected. That devotion in all Rob's efforts is my main reason for backing him for Mayor.

Stoney, Rob was the liaison for the City to Weed & Seed, not the Coordinator. He was supposed to be my contact to work closer with UPD, and he did just that. When the fiduciary agency for W&S tossed me they went with the tried and true mouthpiece of theirs to rewrite the grant and keep collecting the bucks. Unfortunately for them I had dotted and I’s and not only did the grants dry up, they never got recognition for their second site. Rob was never any part of that process, it was all in house BS with the fiduciary.
Despite my leaving and W&S becoming a non entity, he carried on with the philosophy of the program anyway……which is what W&S was all about to begin with. And I never had an issue with what they were paying him vs my salary. He was City and I was NFP, there is always a big difference in the pay scale there. My pittance of a salary was the result of the fiduciary for the program being greedy.

Thanks for the correct info, you guys!! Ralph, if I remember right that gal I knew from RCIL (J.F.) had something to do with the crap going on with your former position, correct? That's too bad, because she was always cool in my book; we even saw the play "Hair" together, & went to each others' houses for fun & mayhem. Maybe she got taken in by the political hoopla, too.

BZ, Clipper doesn't have anything negative to say about Stoney rooting for a candidate from her place in Schuyler. I root for or let my opinion be known from Tennessee. It is the city where I spent a good portion of my life. Ether living within the city or shopping there. It is the city that I call my "hometown". Although I don't see it in the cards right now, I would love to see the city come back to a place that I would like to live, and for NY State to be a place I can AFFORD to live.
Having an honest Mayor and council is a start in that direction. While other mayors have talked a good ball game, none of them have done anything but promise and then fail to carry out the promises.
I think one important factor might be for a candidate to realize what he can and can't do, and not make any promises he cannot realistically fulfill. That alone would be a change in Utica politics, and Rob Palmeiri, Larry and Jim Zecca would make a great foundation to build on.
My advice to you Larry is this. Be honest, be real, and don't try to blow any political smoke up anybody's ass. Campaign on the platform of what you would like to see done, and what you CAN do, but not on empty pie in the sky promises that you cannot keep.
Your heart is in the right place. Just don't let ego or overconfidence take you beyond the real Larry.
