BZ, I love the honesty and straightforward approach. The last thing an elected official needs is people telling them what they want to hear as opposed to what they need to hear. I have a feeling, if I'm honored enough to be elected, that you'll be the first person I'll be calling for an opinion on things. Do you know Kay Lanaux? She lives in Cornhill and started NIA. She's like a second mother to me and always been a great supporter. However, I can always count on her to tell me the truth and give me honest criticism.
Clip, thanks for the encouragement. I think I have the honest thing down (maybe to a fault, lol). I do have to work on trying to take on too much though. In my old age (32), I'm learning to have more patience though. When I first got in the legislature, one of my biggest issues was that I wanted to change the world overnight. Unfortunately, when it didn't happen I became frustrated. So with a little patience and a good team, I think we have a good shot this year.

Larry, as Rob and Jim always do, listen to the people you are working for once elected and you'll never go wrong. They are your boss and no one else. They are the ones you have to please because as quick as they are to compliment, they will be that quick to cut your throat if you ignore them. Rob and Jim always attended all the Neighborhood meetings to get the input of the people and not only listened to the complaints but addressed all the problems and corrected them. Always remember party backing ain't gonna mean sh*t if you pi** off the people who will be voting for you each time around. The next W.Utica meeting will be toward the end of this month and is always on a Wednesday at Holy Trinity School. Not sure exactly which this month because of Easter but will get right back to you with the date when I talk to Gene Allen. Make it a point to be there and all after and if elected W.Utica councilman you'll learn much more if you also attend the meetings in all parts of Utica. What happens in one part of the city usually happens in the others sooner or later and you can get heads up on how the other council people are handling those problems. Will get right back to you with the exact date of this month's meeting.

I wasn't sure who I was going to vote for in the Mayoral election this Fall? My next door neighbor's seem to like this Cardillo guy ( I actually met him at Rosario's Pizza and he seemed like a decent guy?) Anyway, now I'm leaning toward Palmieri because of this forum and knowing that many of you are active, past or present in the issues facing our city. Since so many of you seem to think highly of him, I think you've already converted me to vote for him. Word of mouth, blogging etc. and getting the word out really does make a difference! When I'm undecided and someone takes the time out to go door to door campaigning, all other things being equal, I will vote for the person that goes that extra mile!

Maybe this will help a little more. I knew Bob Cardillo when he was still wet behind the eyes and first entered the political world. I can only tell you what my honest opinion is about Bob and what I witnessed. He is a very nice guy but he is definitely his party's puppet with no back-bone of his own. He will not make any decisions on his own unless it's discussed behind close doors first. He also left Utica for quite a while which tells me just how much he cared about Utica, only to come back to run for Mayor. The rest you will have to see for yourself and then make your decision.

Stoney.....that woman could trade Popsicles to Eskimos for their clothes and leave them standing naked on the Arctic Tundra to freeze to death with a smile on her face.
Her favorite quote was, "It ALL about the money."

Thanks BZ. You're absolutely right. That's the mentality I always tried keeping when serving over here. I always remembered who I was there to represent. That's why my campaign slogan is "The People First". Thanks for the heads up on the meeting. I always made the Cornhill meetings, and probably still will, and used to regularly attend the West Utica ones a few years ago. Taht's how I first met Ralph. What a disaster that turned out to be, lol. I should be home for the meeting. We're going to Greenville, SC (my brother's) for Easter. We're leaving on the 21st and should be home Monday or Tuesday night.
Also, we found out who the opposition will be. Tony Meyer, the guy that ran against Jim a couple years ago. I don't know much about him. He sounds like a nice enough guy, but I'm just focusing on my campaign and what I plan on doing. The one thing I can promise is a 100% positive campaign about what I plan to do for West Utica. As Rob says, it's all about teamwork and working together. And if the team is successful, I'm confidant West Utica will be successful.

Larry, As long as you remember that Tony isn't really the enemy or the foe (I don't know him or even of him). The Opposition is stagnation, Business as usual, Over taxation, Over Spend, working for ones' Constituents not ones' Citizens once elected, Friends and Family Plans, Buggy Whip Protectionists, Class Warfarians, Nepotizors, Cronyators, Federalists, Albanizers or Republi-Crat Bipart's as a whole.
The problems we face are the making of "We the Sheeple" in "The United States of Entitlement" over many decades by voting for "our guy" because he was "our guy" and not necessarily the best person for the job.
A friend of mine has been a very successful 2 term Village Trustee in Hamilton and he's getting out with a few others of like mind because they found the politics doesn't end after the election. The partisan Buffoons in Senior leadership positions never stop leveraging, placating or running for office even after the poles are mothballed.
There are not enough hours in the day when the few are doing the work of the many and getting big-time grief for doing it at the same time your told to do even more. In the best of times, none of these are "Part time jobs" or 37.5 Hr a week Jobs. In bad times they are akin to fighting an all out War.
As a NYARNG Anti-Armor Platoon Sergeant for many years, I gave countless unpaid hour's "For the Flag" as we used to say. I never sweated that, as Plat Daddy, I was singularly responsible for every man in my Platoon, all of the equipment (5 million in systems) plus the Mission to accomplish every single time, no excuses excepted ever. That could not possibly be done "One weekend a month and 2 weeks during the Summer". I would guess, that my unpaid time was at least double that of my paid, triple often.
I did it for the equivalent of about $1.50 peak an hour for 21 years Regular and National Guard Combined. I get no living benefits or retirement for it until I'm 62 yet call me a fool, I would do it allover again (Except probably that Infantry thing, was I thinking? I digress...
I hope you win, I pray you will serve the Constitution, all your Citizens and Those Less Fortunate with Duty, Honor and Justice for All always to the forefront of your decision making process always.
What I just wished for you is a nightmare of sleepless nights and High Speed Days 7 days a week. That may not sound like much fun to most but if it does, you may be "Da Man"!
Just be carefull what you wish for, you just might get it! Good Luck, I mean it, JR

What is (or was) the Weed and Seed program?

What is (or was) the Weed and Seed program? Tried to get the drugs off the street. Didn't work the drugs are still here and the violence along with it. Put the Utica Police Department on Facebook everyday there are arrests for drygs. It is a curse in this city that will never go away. Now we got people stealing peoples tires right off their car at night in their own drive way. lol I haven't seen any improvement to Cornhill or West Utica in the past twenty years.

Lady....I don't think anyone answered your question..
Operation Weed & Seed is a federal initiative managed through the Department of Justice Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO). The mission of Operation Weed & Seed is to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity in high-crime neighborhoods across the country by "weeding" out the most violent crimes from a designated neighborhood while "seeding" the area through social and economic revitalization. Weed & Seed helps communities help themselves, enabling them to develop solutions to public safety problems and to strengthen leadership to implement and sustain those solutions. Weed & Seed sites across the country range in size from several neighborhood blocks to 15 square miles.

The most important thing about Weed & Seed is that it is a philosophy, not just a program. I was designed, and when properly implemented, a self sustaining entity in and of itself. You can’t just take the problems off the street without having something worthwhile to fill in the gap. It is the only fully self supporting program DOJ has ever had success with. Unfortunately it never got to see the proper implementation of the Seeding end in Utica. Much like HOPE IV, there were too many hands in the soup for it to work as it should have.

Chris, Ralph -- thanks very much for the information. Is there no W&S effort ongoing in Utica at the moment?

Her favorite quote was, "It ALL about the money." i agree ralph she and her brother are 2 of the biggest crooks in the city rumor has it they have something on the mayor including a tape recorded conversation with destito that forced him not to run..which of course is no great loss.
