Wow. Holy possum poop bat man! Here is a chance for Utica to elect a Mayor that is truly going to listen to the middle class citizens instead of the socialites and might spend some money on something besides the Stanley Theater and Galas. Jim Zecca is going to run for Common Council Prez right now, but wouldn't it be great if someone could talk him into running for mayor??? Jim is a man that I don't know other than what I read about him often in the Observer Disgrace, but he really seems to be fully committed to the people of not only his council district, but to the entire City. I have read nothing but GOOD things about he man, and that is an unusual thing in Utica politics in itself. It must speak volumes about the man's honesty and integrity!
Come on BZ. Get talking to him, haha. YOU can talk a crocodile out of it's false teeth, and sell ice machines to eskimos, LOL.

Larry, what sort of promises did you make to roefaro to entice him not to seek re-election ;D I wonder if the failed recall attempt was a factor in his decision to resign with grace rather than lose in flames.

I'm still pretty pissed at him for running for Prez of the CC. He is needed in W.Utica!!!!!! He is the only councilman we've had in my life-time that did anything for W.Utica and now we have to lose the only good thing we had going for us. Most, including myself. are very sad to lose him.

If he did that well for W Utica, it is selfish of you guys not to want the whole city to benefit from his wisdom and dedication. He could do more for W Utica from the Mayor's office than he does as a council person or council prez. Just sayin.

I wonder if Morehouse will run.

Larry is not ready for a mayoral run. He would never have the support or the money unless he serves as a councilman for a term or two first. More experience and maturity needed for the mayor's job. They would eat him alive. Maybe next time.

Naming a unqualified childhood friend as Police Chief ahead of other more qualified candidates (Bailey and Williams) was bad enough, but I really feel as though the DPW's horrible response to the 20 inch Snowstorm was the straw that broke the Camels back! The people were so outraged by the overwhelming amount of comments on the OD websiteand Topix etc., that I think he had enough sense to realize that he was doomed for defeat. Unfortunately as Harry Truman said, "the buck stops here", and rightly or wrongly ,he bore the brunt of criticism in both those instances. It should be an exciting local election year this Fall!

Gee BZ. Larry is running for that council seat in W Utica. I guess you and your neighborhood will just have to train him and break in a new guy, haha.

Sorry but have to disagree with you Clip. With every mayor we've had in Utica the west part of the city was always the last on the totem pole for all services. Jim being councilman was very vocal, persistent and made everyone listen and got things done for the west end. His concentration on W.Utica was the key to all the improvements. As Mayor, Jim would have to branch out and the west end will once again hurt because of that and as Prez of the CC, Jim won't hold much power for the west end at all. The Republicans will have Bob Cardillo as candidate for mayor and the Democrats have Moorehouse and Rob Palmeri. Damn, big choice. Bob C, I know from way back when and he is just a puppet for his party. No backbone. Moorehouse does nothing. The only one left is Palmeri and since I worked with him personally on many problems in Utica I will most likely back him. If Cerminaro throws his hat in I won't even consider him because he is just one big hot-head and you can't communicate with the guy. He reminds me of ex-mayor Hanna.....all mouth minus the dough. So far this is where I stand.

I wonder if Palmeiri is the reason behing Roefaro announcing his withdrawl. Too bad there isn't some other names in that mix. I kinda think Palmeiri will have this rapped up.

If I lived there I would go with Palmeri too BZ, and I agree with you about Cardillo. Can't blame Zecca for wanting to move on up. I am sure he is not doing it to abandon W Utica. He is probably sick of the way things are run and wants a chance to take a leadership position and work on a wider plain to get things done.

I would like to know the backstory on his decision. Because we all know this was not his decision but rather someone else convincing him this was the decision needed.

I imagine that the party was behind his decision not to run again. Looking from afar, it seems that Angelo ran the city. Seldom did one see the mayor unless it was a photo op for him personally or something that would bring positive press. That is just an impression from afar.
Did he really spend most of his time at the funeral parlor rather than at City Hall? That is the impression that one would get. I just shook my head in disbelief when all that turmoil was going on with LaBella. That was a real injustice to Bailey and Williams. Also the money spent on the kitchenette adjoining his office was kind of a farce when the city is in such bad fiscal shape.
Rob Palmeri would do a good job. He cares about the city as a whole and has a sound head on his shoulders.

Looks like the unqualified danny labella will also be leaving.
I wonder if the party bosses realized if roefaro were allowed to run again, they'd definitely lose the city to Republicans...

I have to imagine they did, Swimmy.
La Bella's position was an appointed one and it is not likely the incoming administration would keep him around anyway.
