Hey the UticaOD on Monday will begin charging to read any of its premium content. Some people put up Clippers Corner as a discussion forum worthy to join.

Those are some of the people I got away from when I signed up for the Corner. Some not very nice and down right rude. Some just plain a**holes. Sorry but that's the truth.

Well, we'll be seeing some new "faces" around here then. And then again, maybe not!

I posted once with a link to here. Forget Donna Donovan and her ragsheet.

OH NO!!!!!!! Those are some of the people I got away from when I signed up for the Corner. Some not very nice and down right rude. Some just plain a**holes. Sorry but that's the truth. Don't worry BZ. We still have to approve the members and Ralph and I are both long time OD discussion forum readers. We are also VERY familiar with some of the asshats that post there. We have already booted or not approved many of the former troublemakers from the old OD discussion forum. If any of them get on here, and don't conform to the rules, they can be deleted with a click of the mouse for inappropriate violations of the rules and conduct. It is one of the privileges of being the admin to hold that delete account control in our hands. We also have the privilege of simply disapproving a registration for the forum, so they don't necessarily just join Clipper's Busy Corner and start posting. However fair or unfair it may sound, we DO have the perogative to disapprove anyone that we don't think would be a worthwhile contributor to the discussion. It should be noted that thus far we have had very little problem with approving members and very few have had their membership revoked or deleted. I approve most and have been amazed at how many we have gained through the 50's and 60's music thread. I just don't know what I was thinking when I approved membership for a certain short blonde person that has made it her mission to bust my chops 24/7 for the last three years, ROFLMAO! ;D. It's like going to a doctor and asking him to INSTALL a couple of hemroids, just to make life interesting. (Love ya BZ! )

Firstamendment, Ralph and I posted a link to here everyday until the OD finally told us to stop, haha. We both got nastygrams eventually, because we were putting up the link at every opportunity. I still read most of the discussion and comments on the OD homepage and know who the pains in the butt are. If they come here, they can be deleted when they start their BS. Some of those over there just post to stir discontent. Won't happen here. Ralph and I both have been OD comment and discussion readers and participants for a long time and know who many of the troublemakers and morons are. I simply chuckle when I read that they will charge to read their "premium" content. Can't wait to see what the hell THAT might be, ROFL. I think we will find that the Utica Daily News banner at the bottom of the page will be used more often. They carry all of the OD stories, many times word for word, and they carry the wire service stories also. I am sure that they will be subscribers to that OD source, and we will still be able to read most stories of interest from a much more pleasant and reader friendly source. Their comment and discussion feature is much more user friendly and less restrained also. I LOVE UDN! I only hope that I can still get the Obits from the OD page. What the OD cuts us out of, UDN may very well at some point pick up and run with. It will be interesting to see what happens.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. When I read the announcement I did a review of my use of the OD online since I still read the print version daily. I basically read the online for the forums (I've decided to go with the accepted usage. There do don't appear to be any Latin teachers around to red mark me for not using "fora.") and breaking news. The forums have been less interesting to me of late and breaking news is readily available so for now I'll keep my $1,49 in my pocket.

I found that after they did away with the actual "discussion forum" that their comment section became very controlled and didn't get as much participation either.
There is simply a big difference between having a topic open to discussion and having a news story, which may or may not involve private lives, open to comment, criticism and opinion from the public.
I have noticed over a period of time, that there are fairly limited few that comment, and it is the same names every day. I seldom comment there. If there is a subject article that interests me, I usually will simply bring it here and post a thread for discussion.
That is why WE are here. If you want to make a COMMENT, you can do so on the OD homepage, if you want to DISCUSS something at length, relatively uncensored, and freely, you come here to the corner. THAT was the entire motive behind creating this forum. Ralph, Kim and I simply wanted to provide what the OD was doing away with.
I think we have a perfect balance of opinions here, and a great membership. Much more personal in nature than the OD forums ever were, although that is where many of us first met and traded opinions. I am pleased with what the membership here has grown this forum into. Make no mistake. It is YOU, the members that make this a place to enjoy. The staff simply moderates and performs the admin tasks for a wonderful group of people, and we enjoy the discussion and the forum as much as all of you do. The forum becomes a living thing and develops a personality and a face that is determined by the climate developed by the members. We are blessed with a great membership and very few problems.

The Utica OD and premium are contradictory of each other.
Just sayin'.

I agree, but then again, I am a disgruntled former employee, LOL. If being a former delivery boy counts, then I am somewhat disgruntled as well.

Sure does. I always felt sorry for the carriers when we could not get their papers to them on time due to press problems. I also felt badly for some of the district managers that ended up delivering those routes when the regular carrier had to go to work or school. I have seen DM's deliver papers well into the afternoon to get them all out to the customers and subscribers. I often worked until noon on those days, but I was in my office manning a radio much of the time, and once in a great while I would be out delivering bundles or individual papers myself to cover for one of my van drivers that had to go to work somewhere else.

I am also a former OD carrier, but from a long time ago. I'm surprised (but maybe not) the newspaper wants money from hardcopy subscribers to on-line content. Other papers have given the content free to those who pay for newspaper delivery.

Early to mid-80's when they still had a Sunday only route. A friend of mine across the street had many of my customers on his weekly route. Once they made the Sunday paper routes combined with the weekly, I lost my route and the one they had in mind for me was about 8 blocks or so away. Made no sense to go that far for peanuts.
