Gee, one would think that with so many people moving to the south from the north for whatever reasons "what foods are popular"" would not be the reason of why certain products are not shipped south.

I think it is more that the major cities have a heavier concentration of Italians and people from the North and Northeast. The only major population concentrations here in NE Tennessee and South West Virginia, are Bristol Tn and Bristol Va, Johnson City Tn, and Kingsport Tn. Those towns are all only average about 40,000 population each, and there are not that many northerners here. Not like Florida or Atlanta where the weather is usually temperate all winter, and the population is much larger. While it is quite pretty here in the mountains of NE Tennessee, it is not a major retirement area. Most of the people we know here from the North, came with Univac or other companies that moved plants here and transferred them here.

You are right about the possum Ralph, but the sweet taters are a lifelong treat. We actually see a lot of real sweet potatoes here, and not just the yams. They are shaped like a yam, but much smaller, and they are white instead of orange. they are just moderately sweet, but delicious. They are excellent when boiled up with parsnips and then sauteed lightly in butter, although that is not a southern thing. I just decided to try that combo one day and it was good. I certainly would not shoot a poor defenseless possum with the idea in mind of eating the thing, LOL. I have often thought of going to Georgia or Alabama to hunt wild pigs. I don't hunt deer here because the terrain is more suited to strong young hunters that don't mind walking a mile straight up a mountain to get to their stand, haha. Lots of wild hogs to hunt a little farther South of here, but I may have lost my touch at that also, since I haven't pursued a "wild hog" since I quit drinking and hanging in the beer joints at closing time, ROFLMAO! Just think of all those young ladies that have been deprived of the opportunity to go home with a ten and wake up with a marginal 3 or 4 over the years. LOL
