I may be wrong but ... I think the Billy Joel song is "bottle of red bottle of whites" which given the era takes on a whole different meaning. I'll have to pull out the old vinyl and check it out.
Making wine and beer is a bit of a task, but the benefits are great. Nothing like sitting down for a nice Blackberry Irish brown Ale, or a glass of wine. sharing it with your friends, knowing it's better than most of what you buy, and saving money too. Plus no headaches since it's fresh and you control the ingredients.

Wine has a tendancy to do that to ya. When I drink wine (as a good bottle is only about 17 Euros) I feel dried out, cotton mouthed and with a slight headache. It only happens with wine though. So I leave the wine sipping to my wife.

Jrcummings....I'm not sure what a Euro is compared to the dollar. How much would 17 Euros be in dollars?

Kim. It was an inside joke with those of us "in the know" back then. The lyrics in the liner does say "bottle of red, bottle of white" but....if you listen to the whole song, at the end when their lives have fallen apart (at about 6 minute 10 seconds into the song) - despite what the liner says, He says "bottle of reds, bottle of whites. It's another sad twist in the story of Brender an Eddie.
P.S. - I'm also a music freak. Play the guitar - mostly acoustic James Taylor type stuff. Listening to Billy Joel as I write this. I did a search for the lyrics and found you to be right but thought I remembered differently. So I had to listen to it and sure enough....
Maybe too many reds and whites myself back then. (of course I'm talking about bottles of wine)

That's it...I'm gonna go put Billy Joel on! :-) I saw him in concert twice, once at the Dome and once at the Knickerbocker. It's not called that anymore, is it? Anyway, great show!

Jrcummings, you are in a position to drink some of the finest wine in the world. European wines of quality, make california wines taste like Boones Farm. Been a long time since I have drank any wine, but while I was in the navy we used to buy bottles of wine shortly before payday when we couldn't afford anything else, haha. Talk about a headache and dry mouth. Some of the wines we bought probably were grape peels and formaldehyde and hadn't seen an aging barrel, haha.
Does anyone remember Red Mountain Vin Rose' ? It made Boones Farm look like $100 a bottle champaign, haha.

Swimmy, I saw Billy Joel back in 1989 and again in 90 or '91. It's been a while! :-o The last concert I went to was Jimmy Buffett back in 2002. Boy, there were some interesting smells wafting around that concert!

Boones Farm - Tickle Pink. Quality stuff. How about Night Train! That was rot gut. On the Billy Joel song. He says red/white 1st time, red/whites the 2nd, and reds/ whites the last time. Sort of a downward spiral. Poor Brender and Eddie And was it Matoose or something liike that in the squatty bottle with the wicker wrapping?

Wasn't it Manachevitz? I know I'm not spelling it right. How about Mad Dog 20/20? I used to work in a liquor store and we sold that stuff by the gallon.
