VOSS' IS OPENED!!!!!!!!!!! ;D They opened yesterday but couldn't get near the place cause it was so packed. Will try again today on my travels to get my first chili dog , fries and Dairy Orange for the season. They picked a beautiful day for their return. Some people will say they love Voss's while others will not. For me it is tradition to stop when they first open. Voss' has been a business here that has survived for 70 yrs now and my parents took me there when I was just a baby and I have done the same with my children and my children are doing the same with theirs. Will continue to support this business that has shown faith in our area and has given pleasure to our community for generations. Plus the fact, they have always given our kids jobs for the summer by hiring locals. I will also support them for my own personal selfish reasons....................I LOVE THEIR CHILI DOGS, FRIES AND DAIRY ORANGE!

Why stand outside with the flies and yellow jackets and eat at sticky picnic tables, or in your car with chili dripping on your shirt and seats, when you can go east about a mile and have the worlds FINEST chili dog at the Patio??? Voss's is strictly a tradition due to their longevity in the business. They have always had a rep for making a good barbecue ham sandwich, but only because the Northern Lights in N. Utica is gone. Let's face it. It's lunch meat on a burger bun with bottled sauce. If anything were to draw me to stand outside in line, it would be their ice cream and milkshakes. When we were kids, they had the original style of frozen custard. It was rich and yellow with cream and eggs and was delicious. Now it is their hard ice cream that stands out. Their hot dogs were the best when they served Durr's in the 50's and 60's. Now I think they use Hoffman's, but the skinless variety. Patio uses the kind with a casing that snaps when you bite it. THAT is a good hotdog. It's our desire to hold on to the past Bobbbiez. When we were teens, Voss's was a hang out and the milkshakes alone would draw you there. It is close to our hearts for the same reasons that Kewpie's is close to our hearts. My brother in-law drove to a Kewpie's in Indiana or Ohio or somewhere, just to have a Kewpi hamburger once. Go have your Voss's chili dog and enjoy it kiddo. I am just picking on ya. Just don't forget who has the REAL best chili dog in Utica. It's down the road toward the city from that little stand in Yorkville. I'm gonna call Tony and tell him that you are cheating on him Sunshine! LOL ( heck, maybe HE will be at Voss's keeping up the tradition, hahaha)

Me thinks Tony already knows I cheat on him but he always forgives me since I'm good to go at both places. He can't really complain cause I've frequent his place now for over 50 yrs and Voss' having seniority for way over 60 yrs. Two different taste and I do like Voss' chili a little better. Before they close every year I always buy a bunch of containers of their chili to put in my freezer. Both places are great in my book. I'll think about ya this afternoon after our house-hunting trips while I pig out on my chili dog. ;D

Well Clipper, you can start drooling. We only had a short time between looking at houses so we stop at the Patio for our chili dogs. Voss' was way to busy and we just didn't have enough time between appointments. God, they were sooooooooooo good! ;D

You are making me jealous Denise. When I lived on Kayuta Lake, that was a nightly ritual in summer. I miss standing in line for icecream, while swatting black flies, hahaha.

So far, had enough for everyone here on the Corner. ;D Ya have another reason to look forward to August besides your planned reunion......................you can hit all your old favorite spots to pig out. ps: The only thing you might have trouble with is a good "after-hour breakfast place" for steaks & greens. No one could beat TR's or Michael's and they're long gone. They definitely had the best.

For me Ralph, ain't no early morn breakfast any more. I'm lucky if I can keep my eyes open past 11:00pm. We did go to Tiffany's quite often and only because there were no other places open anymore, but they didn't measure up to places like TR's or Michael's. Plus, Tiffany's is a ways out of the city to drive after a night out. I still keep in touch with Congetta, TR's cook. Nothing beats an old Italian woman when it comes to cooking greens and etc. She is almost 90 years old and still cooks up a storm and on my visits with her I still get to enjoy her delicious specialties. ;D

I was never crazy about Michaels, but I miss TR's for Giambotte. Tiffany's has good Giambotte, but NOBODY makes it as good a what TR's was.

Oh yeah, TR's had the best Giambotte in the area but Michael's had the best greens. No process sh*t in either of those places and home fries were real potatoes. I remember when I had to run the place when TR was sick a few times and had to help Congetta out peeling tons of potatoes. Not one of my favorite jobs but home fries are one of my favorite breakfast foods whether they be in a Giambotte or just plain fried. At least we can still get real home fries at Flo's Diner.
