Stoney, anyone that believes that the tax increase will not be altered or will not filter down to us middle income folks has to be dreaming. If they tax the insurers or businesses in the health care business, it IS going to be passed along at some point those of us in middle income brackets.
Name a federally backed program in your lifetime where the costs were not grossly underestimated, or that were not pushed through by just plain lies about the known costs.
What really amazes me is the complacency with which people seem to be accepting the screwing that we just got. The Washington Post has backed off of any serious criticism of the plan, and is saying " oh well, we will have to see how it all works out". What is so damned magical about something as disgusting as a government shoving through a bill that was opposed by so many, and had to be bought and paid for with MY tax money, in earmarks for the districts who's representatives didn't originally subscribe? I guess it IS historic in nature. So was Tiananmen Square, Pearl Harbor, and the holocaust. I have to admit that I am a sore loser. I am really pissed at the way the whole scenario went down and the underhanded crap that was necessary to get it passed.
I can only hope that I am wrong, and that it all works out to the good of ALL Americans. It has been a rough ride and it has certainly kept America up in arms. I still am seriously concerned and will remain so until I can be shown that it is not a horrible mistake that will cost us much and bring us little.
Maybe now Obama can take his blinders off and broaden his focus to other issues of concern on a world scale. It was scary when he was cancelling diplomatic trips to other countries to be here for his precious vote. Now if someone were to just grab those big assed ears and head butt him to get his attention, and tell him that he needs to start making nice nice with our allies before he alienates the whole frigging free world. His SNUBS are what are going down in history, not his accomplishments. He really needs some education in manners, etiquette and diplomatic protocol. He is as abrasive to other world leaders as he is to those here in this country that don't bow down and kiss his ring.
His domestic policy sucks in my estimation, but his policies on the world stage SCARE me more. Our security is at stake, and he doesn't seem to have a clue as to the dangers. Complacency and misguided pandering to dictators and terrorists will bring us another 9/11. It is only a matter of time.
Seems that his next planned trip is to Australia. Australia? Yep, the middle east is simmering, Afghanistan is boiling, Israel is spitting in Biden's eye, and Barrack, Michelle and the kiddies are off to Australia for another "vacation" being passed off as some sort of official business. What do ya say we stand up and take care of business Barrack baby? The rest of the world doesn't give a shit about your domestic policies OR your "bought and paid for" victory on health care. They have more pressing issues on their minds that involve much larger potential casualties than the continued lack of health insurance for a few folks here in the US.
Have Nancy and Harry over for cake and coffee, sing songs and celebrate over a pot roast at the white house, and then get on with the business of our country. Don't need to fly a 747 to Australia to celebrate, gloat and relax after your "hard fought battle".
One last thought. I am ONE cantankerous old fart that WON'T forget when I go to the polls. I was already thinking that I would vote for very few incumbents, but now I can safely tell you that even though I usually vote a split ticket, I won't be voting for ANY DEMOCRAT on the ballot. Kinda narrows the choices, and puts us back where we were in the Bush/Gore race, and the Bush/Kerry race. Kinda limits my choices to a few republicans, independents, and libertarians. It has to change at some time, at some place, and why not here and now and in the voting booth. Hell, nobody could do much WORSE than what we have serving from both parties now. I guess the kid that delivers my newspaper couldn't be much more clueless to the desires and needs of the people than those serving now.

New Taxes for Health Care Help Obama ‘Spread the Wealth Around’www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=ake7tOWwUT6EBut if you don't use pharmaceuticals or medical devices, go to tanning salons (bad for you anyway) or put money into a Flex Spending Account to pay for deductibles, eyeglasses, medical expenses & such, you should be OK unless of course you live in a state or county which uses tax money to pay their portion of Medicaid expenses.

I ain't agin' taxing the rich, as long as the government doesn't think I'm rich. But it may come to pass, 'cause eventually there won't be many rich people in America, 'cept the U.S. Senate.

I have stopped watching the news. I just can't stand hearing any more news reports about this health care b.s. I honestly could let loose such a string of invectives right now that it would leave a cloud of funk hanging over my house for days.

I'm looking forward to using it in a sentence. There is this attorney down here who loves using big vocabulary. I am convinced he spends his free time memorizing the dictionary.

Funk isn't a new word Stoney. Didn't they used to grow Funk in California and peddle it all across the country with the "Grand Funk Railroad?" LOL
