Fanny Farmners was bought by Russell Stover. When I first got out of highschool I worked there in the factory for a short time. Glad you like it cause if you seen it made you would not want to eat any more. (we could eat all day long if we wanted just not allowed to take any home) After a while you don't want to look at any candy.....ever!!!

[quoteI love to suck on them 'til they get down to the chocolate. (No comments from the peanut gallery now.) www.turkeyjoints.com ][/quote] looking at the website I think I had some way back once just never knew what they were called. And clipper I do think they have something that looks similar filled with peaunt butter only maybe a little shorter and stubbier. I think they are in the old fashioned Christmas candies...the ones that have the little red rasberry filled hard candies...those are good too but only can get them at Christmas time.

Ohhhhhh Chris, I love them to..........the red raspberry filled hard candy. I almost forgot about those. I think we do tend to like them more cause we can't get them all the time. Works for me.

The candy with the pictures in the middle is called "cut rock candy" Stoney. The food channel just had a program the other night that showed how that is made. It is quite an amazing process that allows the little picture to evolve in the middle of a long rope of candy that is cut into the small pieces that are wrapped and sold.

I think FF is still in N.H. I could be wrong. I certainly hope you're wrong! I had hoped they'd gone out of business long ago. I used to work for them in college, that very store. Run by a woman, Mrs. Tightbutt, who was a certified witch as well as the the other word that rhymes with it. She was precise, miserable and simply a nasty person. I lasted only a few months before practically throwing the mop at her as I was leaving. My job was to do general cleanup, and then clean the toilet, after which I'd place candy in the boxes. Do you remember the immaculate white tile that covered the storefront? When a dog wandered across the parking lot from a nearby home and relieved himself on the tile, I was dispatched to go out and clean it up. This happened way too often. There couldn’t have been THAT many dogs. You know, I seldom actually saw any animals around, just the yellow stains on the tiles when I was sent outside to wash them off. So I always suspected that somehow Mrs. Tightbutt had personally done the deed. If I wasn't afraid of being arrested for public exposure, I'd drive up there and piss on the front of the store myself. Amazing how long I can carry a resentment.

YES!!!! I haven't seen those in ages. And remember the little hard ones with intricate pictures of Christmas trees, wreaths, etc. in the center? I found them about two weeks ago at the Dollar Store in N.Hartford. Went back this week to get a few more cans and they are all gone along with the non-refrigerated vanilla favored creamer I use which disappeared off the shelves in a few days.

Kathy bought some in a cardboard can the other day. I laughed a little because it was not too long ago that we threw away 3/4 of the same stuff from last year. It sat in a covered candy dish in the hutch. I guess she stuck it up there intending to eat more of it but forgot it was there. Thank goodness it comes from the dollar store. I would hate to pay big bucks for it to sit around for a year and get trashed, hahaha.

Rock candy shouldn't go bad...... just gets a little rockier. Clipper, you're suppose to "suck" it, not "chew." Don't be giving out your secrets. ;D

Did you buy the ribbon candy at P.C., Bobbie?
Why is it men always chew their candy, while women savor it & make it last?

Great thread. You folks are talking about all the great candy that I remember from my grandparents house @ Christmas time I just saw the cut rock candy @ Hannaford the other night. I picked myself up a bag of those peppermint chews with the red and white edges and the tree in the middle. Anybody seen those Lifesavers "story books"?

About three weeks ago I saw them at the Family Dollar. Haven't noticed them since, but will keep my eye out for them and will let you know.

Suck, not chew? Geez Sunshine, I don't eat candy that I have to suck on. Candy that requires sucking is hard candy. Hard candy is normally no more than sugar and corn syrup with a little food coloring and some fake flavoring. The only hard candy I will eat is Werther's. I like soft candy with some real flavor. Kathy just made chocolate fudge with walnuts or pecans in it. I will eat some of that, but I am not a candy eater per say. she also makes toffee, caramel, and chocolate covered cherries. I get all the sweets I want over the holidays and normally don't have any craving for candy the rest of the year. Now DONUTS? Yep, THERE is my weakness, hahaha. Donuts and cookies.
