" Again, there are thousands of responsible people that go out every night."
I've done that hundreds of times over what you or your cronies have ever done. But you're missing the point. Until this area is developed where there IS a nightlife (plays, art studios, concerts, comedy), there is no reason to have bars open 'til 4 except to DRINK.
Is that going to become the great Oneida County pastime? That will NOT attract businesses.

cronies? Sorry, I don't have cronies. I think that's one thing I can safely say with 100% confidence. And I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree. I know there are some people that simply will not accept anything progessive (and I'm sure you'll respond that it's not progressive). But it's not the people that have already lived their lives that I'm worried about. I'm worried about the future and this is really not a big deal. BTW - Is Chris Talgo, owner of Nail Creek and former city employee, not a business person. Is Pete Mazloom not a business person? They were both on Channel 5 (Syracuse) news tonight agreeing with me. Is the Bar and Tavern's Ass. not business people? Is the Chamber not business people?
And as for your snarky remark about "communitty" colleges and not deciding on where I went based on those reasons; I'm glad you think you know more about me than I do. I went to St. Petersburg College in Clearwater Florida in 1997. No I did not graduate but the decision to go to Florida was certainly not based on "where I lived" seeing as though I lived HERE.

God it kinda feels good no longer being elected. I don't have to worry about being so damn nice to people even when they are clearly making "snarky" comments. This is fun. lol

Well, as you've said, we'll just 'agree to disagree'.

Haha. Believe it or not, my mother and sister were Republican until I changed them two years ago. I was a Republican for a couple years too. Actually, most of my family are Republicans except my father and me. And I could be on my way back to the Republican side too

I registered republican for all the years that I worked at Griffiss, as it was "the thing to do" with a republican congressman on the armed services committee. I hardly ever have voted anything like a straight ticket though.
I voted for Bush twice, only because Gore is a nitwit, and Kerry is a horse's ass. Can't make it any plainer than that, haha.
I did vote for Clinton's. He was a good president, even if he couldn't keep his zipper closed. Not a Reagan or an Eisenhower, but a decent diplomat and not bad for a Democrat, hahaha.

I realize that we need to get more money from somewhere however this proposal is a bad one. We have enough alcoholics in this city and county. By allowing bars to open until 4am is going to require more police labor. There will have to be more DWI checks.
Whether people refuse to see it or not, alcohol ruins lives. We do not hold alcohol up to people's mouths but allowing bars to remain open until 4am is almost the same thing as putting a carrot in front of a donkey to make him run.
To support something like this for monetary reasons is sick. If I am offending anyone then so be it but a fact is a fact no matter how much you try to pretend its not.

Sorry I am upset about this and I need to ramble some more. Whatever happened to morals and values? Why do we push them aside in order to satisfy our needs? Does it make it right? NO!! Why do we allow so many gray areas? Why are we so desensitized to things that are not good for us? It's because the more that we bring it into the spotlight then the less shocking factor it has. No matter how you dress it up, drinking only harms people. You may say "Well I am a responsible drinker". No you are NOT!! If you drink more than 1 drink a day then you are indeed not responsible. Your body will suffer. You are spending money on something that could have used in a better way. While you sit there with a beer in your hand, there are people starving. Why should you care? Well one day it will be you who is looking for some help. No matter how much research anyone does on this 4am crap, it's not very good research without doing sociological and psychological research. Monetary research without the others is useless. Call me old fashioned or whatever but I am sick and tired of the world thinking that being bad is good. This is the reason that we are in this sad state today. We threw out morals and values and replaced it with "if it feels good, do it" attitude. At the end of the day, its wrong, period. No excuses, no gray areas, no buts.

Yes I am adding more.. I am infuriated. Does a college student need to be out until 4am? Whatever happened to going to college for what it is supposed to be about.. EDUCATION. Does a college student pick a college on the factor of bars in the area? They don't need to be out until 4am, they should be in their dorm rooms sleeping or studying. Last I knew, drinking 101 is not offered in any college in this community. There is no need to set up that course that lasts until 4am in bars. One more thing (I can't believe I got up to make this point)~~College students, the group you said yourself you wanted to entice, are inherently broke. It comes with the territory. So those extra 2 hours are not going to allow the bar owners to make any sort of killing nor result in a great tax increase due to selling extra cheap beers.
Larry, I wasn't putting you down when I mentioned the 2 Community Colleges you've attended. I'm sorry if it appeared that way. My point was to show you you didn't choose either based on the nightlife offered, but based on where you were living at the time, which is not what you're claiming.
So far, you've gotten 4 nays on this board. Not that that means anything, I guess, but don't base too much on Facebook replies or bar owners either. Contrary to popular belief, some of us older folks have acquired (my God, I'm only 53!) some experience & wisdom. (Mind you, I said some.)

Of course bar owners are going to support it.. they have the money symbol on their minds.
