Good advice, CB, and there is nothing to beat experience, especially people experience. That said, there have been instances of very young mayors, and Marc Molinaro just across the river from me in Tivoli is one example. People loved him and he was re elected five times before going on to become a NY State Legislator. It may be what he lacked in experience he made up for in hard work and devotion to his town. "In 1994, when he was just 18, Molinaro was elected to the Tivoli Village Board of Trustees—making him the youngest person ever elected to office in the State of New York. The very next year, he became the youngest mayor in the United States. He was re-elected mayor five times and elected four times to the Dutchess County Legislature." Here's the full Wiki entry on Marc: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_MolinaroAnd here' the Wiki list of the youngest mayors in the US: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_youngest_mayors_in_the_United_StatesHere's his website: www.marcmolinaro.com/

I have to admit that you are probably right about the experience needed as a manager Clarence. I would like to see Larry in City Hall though, but surrounded with trusted allies that DO have the managerial skills to help him along, while he furthers his desires for honest government and for a better Utica.
He may very well be better suited to take Roanne's seat in Albany. What better mission could one embark on than to bring some Albany money back home to it's source for a change, and not to patrons and relatives?
While many of our mayors have been business men and have supposedly had managerial skills, they damn sure have not managed with any measure of sensibility. It just might be that we NEED someone with only basic managerial skills, such as HOW TO BALANCE A CHECKBOOK AND BUDGET! A mayor that might be seen lunching at a coffee shop in Corn Hill rather than holding court over a plate of pasta at the Chesterfield.
I wonder how the whole mayoral assistant thing might be addressed in Larry's administration though. He would not have a nephew that could run the city while he went to black tie balls, and luncheons, and raised funds for his favorite projects.

The best thing for Larry to do for any further elections he choses to run in is organize a slate of independent candidates who are well liked by the public (people like Frankie) and yet are as vocal as he is. New faces and names of people already committed to working for our area and say "to hell with the parties."

Excellent idea Bobbbiez, but Utica is pretty firmly planted in party politics. An entire independent ticket would be hard to field successfully.
People may soon be fed up enough to lean in that direction though, the way things are going right now.
We want to run Frankie for president in 2012 though, so he would not be able to run for city office and fill a term at that level before moving to the White House.
I can't wait for Frankie to be elected pres. Then I can drive just a short 6 1/2 hours and cruise on his party barge on the Potomac, haha.

You are too short for the job bobbbiez. We would not be able to see you over the podium when you had a press conference, and if you wore a uniform and carried a weapon, your gun would drag on the ground. I can see it all now. "Hey hat, where are you going with the little gal?" All we would see is shiney shoes the end of a gun barrel dragging on the ground and an eight pointed hat with blonde hair hanging out the back of it. IF ya put on a sam browne, it would fit you like a leather miniskirt.

Utica is no different in party politics and some areas are far worse. Man, read the papers and watch the news every day on what Legislator, Senator or Congressman in other states is sleeping with whom and I don't necessarily mean between a man & woman, who is embezzling, and who is making dirty deals behind closed doors. I could go on and on to prove Utica is far from being perfect but still is not as bad as many other areas as some would like to believe. What I do believe is for things to get any better we have to start forming slates of candidates filled with the average citizen who has no affiliation with the parties and just know how to run their household budgets properly. I also believe it has to start at the bottom in local elections first and then work it's way to the very top. Without this happening there will never be a change, but I do sense people starting to think more along those lines and it just might happen sooner then we think.

Clipper, speaking of short people and the success behind them I'll just mention one name....Teddy Roosevelt. End of argument about short people and their strength. ;D

lol!!!!! Corner, ya don't know me that well to just put up training and experience as your qualifications for the job over me. Other then you being able to carry a gun (and you & I still have to get together on that) I will put my experience in living in a war zone and fighting the degenerates every day for approximately 15 yrs now against yours without any worry. There isn't much I haven't experienced or seen in one form or another. Honestly, there really isn't much I can't handle. Besides, I've lived through many of "those" who had the training and experience in the past here in Utica and don't see them still around. Guess they screwed up royally. Don't feel I could do any worse then they did.

Was he the "rough rider guy"? Didn't they name a brand of condoms after him? Hey, if you want the job, have at it. Your boys will have your back, even if you need someone to cuff a tall guy. I just love to pick on ya. Maybe when you get the job, Phyllis can be a drug dog or an attack canine, haha.

You guys are GREAT. I'm just catching up on the posts and having a good laugh. Bobbiez makes a good point about organizing. That's what I did in 2007. I actually found it more fun running as a challenger than an incumbent. Not because of my record - which I'm very proud of - but because of all the directions you're being pulled in when an elected official. It did take away some of the focus. However, as for any future runs; you all have made some good suggestions. Right now I'm just trying to get through the Holiday season and spend more time with family. At 30, I think it's time to focus on building my personal life for a while. I definitely gave 100% of myself over the past 2 years and need a little time. I don't regret it for a minute though.
But you all know me and know that I won't be far from the political fray. It's pretty safe to say I'll be back in some form. Hopefully in a position where I can bring along the talent and experience of you all with me. I always said if I was ever elected to an executive position, the first thing I would do is surround myself with all people that are smarter than me. That shouldn't be hard, lol. The problem is, when you do that around here, you lack the volunteers needed to run an aggressive campaign. Everyone wants an open government and an equal shot at jobs and opportunities, but they don't realize it takes a team of hard working volunteers to get elected.
