I'm not familiar with that song but I am very aware that girls of that era had "crushes" on each other, little romantic flights of fancy, and no one thought anything of it. Now, remember, Annie is Roman Catholic and Mary B. is an Episcopalian. The Wood's belonged to Grace Church. Shall I put Annie at St. Francis DeSales? It would be within walking distance of the Flats, where as she would have had to take a carriage downtown for mass on Sunday. I think the road scene is great. mabye not a good opener, but a chapter header. I am writing another piece to the road scene, should be done in a few days. Don't do away with the road scene. I also copied a lot of photos to send to you snail mail, of the hall, the fire escape doors, and a view in Autumn, because I would like them to meet in Autumn and the view now is not that different from what one would have seen looking from the 7th floor of the Flats, where Mary B. lived, more smokestacks, different church steeples, the hills the same. I will let you know when the scene is ready

Please send me the words to the song Blue Eyed Mary I don't know if it'd the one you're looking for. Blue Eyed Mary Tommy Makem - Lyrics There's a black crow sitting on a bare oak tree And the winter sun is low And it's painting shadows on the old brown hills And the meadows down below But when Mary walks those misty fields It's like a summer's day For sunshine goes where Mary goes To light her on her way Chorus: Blue eyed Mary, lovely Mary Blue eyed Mary, the love light of my soul There's a blackbird singing in a green oak tree And the song is sweet and clear To welcome crocuses and daffodils In the springing of the year But when Mary sings her golden songs The birds are hushed and still And spring is sweeter than before On every flowering hill Chorus Oh Mary is fairer than the brightest dawn Or the sweetest flower in May But it was her tenderness and gentle soul That stole my heart away And where Mary goes, I'll follow her 'Til time has ceased to be For yesterday, she kissed my lips And gave her love to me Chorus

Fiona, be assured that Clipper would never shut down the site, or "sell it". It is a joint effort by what has become a family, and not mine to shut down. As long as there are two members, wanting to communicate and post, there will be a Clipper's Busy Corner, unless Proboards were to do something to prevent us from continuing.
Having lost a couple of close friends in the last year, I have been thinking more about our mortality lately, and I am going to check with Proboards to see if I can make the site an account of shared ownership by the three admins now serving.
I love the forum, and I would not want my death to bring it to an end. Although it has grown beyond being "my" forum, it would most likely die unless someone were to be registered as owner of the account.
I will explore the possibility of sharing ownership of the account, and I would suggest that whatever you guys put up in your story threads should be backed up on memory sticks or something to insure that the data is not lost to some glitch or unforeseen circumstance.

Thanks, Jon. I'm not sure if that's the on dave had in mind, but, that's a nice one. Clip: I think it's an excellent idea that the work be backed up. I tried to install Carbonite, but can't do it unless I diasable my security base and I'm not sure I want to do that. And you are right, there are always unforseen circumstances. About this work: I think it's really going to go places. Dave is a great writer and his graphics second to none. Did you see the e-book jacket he designed for the work? Plus all the research done by him and Jon and others really makes the writing of the text easier, and lays the background for the stories action. Working together we can really produce a work of substance. And just think, Clip, if you did make your transition, and the roll is called up yonder, you may even get to meet our Annie and our Mary B. They are smiling down on us and asking only that history be kind to them.

Jon, yes. that's the Blue Eyed Mary lyrics. In my separate story, I open with the first half of the first verse, then use parts of the lyrics through the story as it unfolds and end with the last half of the last verse going through the dying girls mind. Whichever girl is dying, and I'm not sure yet whether I'll follow history and it will be Mary or if it will be Annie, who didn't die in the fire historically. This is not part of the story we're writing here.
Fiona, yes, I'm aware that girl-girl crushes were not considered taboo 100 years ago. And the tone adopted by the narrator of the story will reflect that view.
Just to reiterate, this is not part of "On Genesee Hill," but rather the other story I'm working on which has the working title, "Morning." That story may steal something from the Cat Stevens '70's hit, "Morning Has Broken." For that, and for playing with her lyrics (as well as those of Blue Eyed Mary,) my apologies to Eleanor Farjeon, the author of "Morning Has Broken." Eleanor turned fifteen years old a month before the Genesee Flats fire.
(Playing with the lyrics from the two songs ....) There's a black crow singing in a bare oak tree. Blackbird has spoken, Morning is broken, And time has ceased to be.
Maybe the bird starts the fire.

Actually, on second thought, if you want them, the above ideas could be part of On Genesee Hill. I don't really care that much whether or not I write a separate story. They are just ideas that came to me and didn't seem like they might work in Fiona's vision for "On Genesee Hill." So I got thinking about using them elsewhere. So let's leave it at this: if you want an idea, take it. If not, I may use it. If it turns out we both want to use an idea, we can certainly do that if I later write another story. If one of us wins a Pulitzer, we can mention the other(s) in our acceptance speech.

I like that and may use it but I would change the first verse to A blackbird singing in a bare elm tree. It's all good. You may use any of my ideas. Ideas exhist in the universe like vital energy, they are all out there waiting to be channelled. Control is an illusion. And as a matter of fact, when we discuss further plot lines, you will se that my "theme" will be just that: Control is an illusion.

Dave and Jon: Funny thing, I was just thinking about what I would say when I did win the Pulitzer. Funny you should mention it. Great minds think alike.

Dave: Yes, you can post the bios this weekend as soon as they go up and anything else I write that you want to, but I don't know how to get into the file you created. is it ready? I clicked on it and it took me to the postcard, but no farther. I will email my scene to you, which opens just after Annie jumps up and tries to stand, where the man is standing behind her. In the scene she is in very bad condition and he will carry her across the road into Albrights kitchen. They lay her out on a kitchen table and from there they will determine wether or not her ankle is fractured or sprained. The action takes off from there. It's a rather long scene which may take two e mails to pass.

Fiona, There isn't anything on the webpage yet, except the post card and a phrase describing what will be on the page. You can't get in to it, because it's not a forum like the Busy Corner here. It's a simple webpage on my website. But whatever you send me, I'll just re-create the page and add to what is already there.
We should probably have a dramatis personae, or the beginning of one, which I imagine would include Mr. Wood, Mrs. Wood, Mary B., Annie Sullivan .... who else at the moment?
You can combine the dramatis personae list with the bios or whatever you think best.
