Fiona, as to editing your postings, all you have to do is click on the "modify" at the top of each post. It will bring the post back up for you to go in and add, delete, or modify in any way you wish.

Clipper; where is the Modify? I can't find it at all. Is that when I have the posting (text) box open?

Dave: I like your "Titanic" idea and I think we could work with it. Do you recall a while back I sent you a premise called "Bones In The Basement"? What did you think of that? I like Billy Foley and may use his father as a younger man in one of my upcoming scenes. The scene takes place in 1873, so let's say it was 15 years before Billy was born. In this way the characters can pass the torch of memory to each other. Do I have your permission to do this? Second, I would like to begin organizing the workbook, moving in some more graphics, ect. After my story of Sarah is done would be a good time for me. I have about 3 - 4 more pages to go. After I post this next section, I will cyber to you and we can decide how to illustrate it. I myself would like the photo of Julia Conkling ( very necessary) as well as the photos of the house moved to the Sullivan. I am planning to begin postings on Annie in mid March or a little later. Thank you for posting the photo of Old main. Any other way that you or John or Clip would like to go with this? Last, I think the text is very readable, but there is an area I forgot to footnote. This concerns Sarah's Aunt, Helen Clarissa Lincklain. She and her husband owned an estate called" Lorenzo" on the shores of Cazenovia Lake. Helen Clarissa Seymour was the sister of Julia Seymour Conkling and Horatio Seymour. It is historic site now, open to the public and very beautiful. I took a virtual tour there I want to post the footnote and the web site, but I want to do it correctly. Thanks everyone for all there hard work and dedication to these characters ( persons) who have waited many long years to tell their story. It is a blessing and a gift that they have chosen to speak through us and they ask only that we, as authors and historians, be kind to them.
Dave replied:
Fiona, yes I like the Mr. Foley idea. Go for it. Re Bones in the Basement, I'm sure I read it, but can't recall it and don't have my main computer with me here at the ocean. Can you post it? Or email again?
Regarding photos and art, I'm going to have to start moving images to photobucket so as to not fill up my webspace. I can begin to dot that, so no problem.
Footnote re Lorenzo. Send me an email with as much info as you have. We'll figure it out.

Once you have done that, you are ready to modify a post. Scroll to your post and find the Modify button, which is a colorful rendition of the word Modify directly to the right of the very top title line in the thread, which, for example, will say: Re: On Genesee Hill, QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS The Modify button will look like this and will be sitting between Quote and Delete. Click on that word "Modify" and it will take you to a screen where you can make changes.

I guess I didn't realize that anyone would be on the forum as much as you are Fiona and not logged in. I don't understand why one would not log in whenever they visit the forum. For one thing it helps us to know how many members are using or visiting the forum at any given time, and assists us in monitoring the forum activity and statistics rather than having members just reading as guests.
Maybe someone with more experience, such as Dave could tell me if there is an advantage or reason not to log onto the forum, or if there is any reason not to do so.

I usually take the default and log on for 6 hours, not that I'm actually here all the time, and forget about it. I often don't realize I'm not logged on until I go to post later.

I was curious as to whether there was any advantage or reason not to log on. I do the same thing you do Dave and sign on for 6 hours. That way I don't type a reply and find that I am not able to post it because I am not logged on. Yep. Lazy. That's what it is. I am lazy 6 hours at a time, hahaha.

You could be even more Lazy and sign in forever like I do. It's hard to believe how many times I have been caught in the middle of writing a post, and then clicking the [Post Reply] button only to find my time had expired and have to start over, sometimes loosing the entire post.

That's why I can't find the modify button. I have you up as an icon on my main menu and I am logged in forever, because sometimes my password won't go through.

Yes, that's true, I stay logged in forever, because when I am posting a story it takes me many hours, sometimes days, to complete the work. I leave the computer on and then come back to it. Otherwise I would loose the text.

Jon, that's a good idea, signing on forever.
Regarding losing logged on status after you've typed in a response, here's what I do.
I (mostly) use the firefox browser, if that matters. When I get the message, "you're not allowed to post" because my logon ran out, I immediately log on again on that page and then hit my Back Button (usually three times) until I'm back to the page on which I was entering a response. You can finish the response, but you can't post from this page ... the post button won't work.
BUT, you can copy and paste the entire post into a new response. Just highlight the post you've now completed and COPY it. Then click on the CLipper's main screen and work your way down to the thread once again. Click on reply and paste your response into that box. Proceed as usual.
I have to do that at last once each day.

I have had to do what you do with the copy and paste thing on many occasions Dave. That is why I sign on for 6 hours. I may later in any given day simply log out and log back in again, just to refresh the amount of time I have available to post or whatever.

Dave: I am going to be working in the Sullivan today on the ongoing Sarah story. Today's page is going to take the form of a newspaper artical from the Saturday Globe. When it is posted, is it possible for you to head it up with a Globe Banner? I think this will bring a lot to the story. I won't be working on it till this afternoon, so mabye I'll hear from you before then re: an ideas you may have.

The Newspaper will be: The Utica Morning Herald and Daily Gazette, not the Globe, which wasn't up and running yet.

Since the flag is at the top of the page, it's difficult to find one in good condition. I manually played with this, enhancing it as best as I could. Depending upon which browser you're using, click to enlarge. www.windsweptpress.com/images/morning herald.jpg[/img]
