Hold on to your hats boys and girls! Buried in the back page of yesterday's newspaper this small artical: FINE SET FOR DISPLAYING EXPIRED GARAGE SALE SIGNS: garage sale signs that remain on display three days after the advertised sale will result in alitter fine of at least $100., Utica mayor David Rofaro said wednesday. Rofaro said he's instructed the codes dept to check for garage sale signs on their daily duties. Those whose houses are listed on outdated signs will be issued tickets for littering regardless of weather the sign is found on a pole or on the ground. " It's important to note that outdated signs also annoy citizens who enjoy hunting for them. Old signs confuse citizens- have them wondering why no one is home when they finally find that house," Roefaro said. "I hope citizens will keep garage sale edict on their minds the rest of the summer." "Will somebody keep my spot on the iceberg cosy and warm?'

Well, thank God. That's it, folks; we're now in Utopia. The last of the blight, the final vestiges of EVIL, have now been taken in hand. We can rest easy tonight.
Now. When's the big Kumbaya Singalong?

Now. When's the big Kumbaya Singalong? As soon as we light the bonfire to burn the garage sale signs.

S'mores? Iwas hoping for no'mores. I wonder exactly how they are going to go about this? And think of the possibilities for filling the city coffers-or should I say coffins " snicker- snicker.Think of the possibilities! Now suppose you see a sign for a garage sale, and you're also working for the codes dept... Do you follow that sign? And what if it's a good sale, lots of cheap stuff? Do you buy something? Is this " garage sailing on city time"? Sounds like a job for Roscoe Conkling to me. Where is Utica's curled darling when we need him? And if you buy something- can you cart it away in a city owned vehical? Also, what if the sign is a fake and leads the codes person on amerry goose chase? Plus, what if the sale is /was being held at a house in violation of codes and you get there and find roaches , rats, garbage, all the good Utica stuff. Do you fine them for both or all violations? What about absentee landlords? Garage sale scofflaws? And how do you get these folks to pay up? Mabye the sign was a fake
-put up by a pissed off neighbor- sort of like ordering a pizza for your neighbor and sitting in the window laughing while your neighbor screams at the pizza guy! My mind is simply reeling with ideas now that our Mayor has finally learned how to run the city. IMAGINE HOW CLOGGED THE CITY COURTS ARE GOING TO BE NOW ;One inmate to another: 'HEY, BRO, HEARD YOU WAS RUNNING A BAD SALE FROM YOUR CRIB! MAN, YOU BAD. YOU FLY. HEY, I GOT YER BACK BRO! MY BOYS GONNA BRING YOUR SMOKES TO OCJ. HEY, THAT'S COOL" Will somebody please save me a place on the iceberg?

fiona,
You may be on to something, actually several somethings.
Will there be special incentives for the codes department if they bust the requisit number of garage sales before Thanksgiving? Will the bonus be in their Labor Day checks?
What a great idea, bogus past expiration date garage sale signs. With a little planning this could be used to rid the city of crack houses. Sounds like a job for Utica's version of Batman. Let's see: Ratman, Ferral Catman, I've got it: Angeloman. I see him dressed in a lime green unitard with a scarlet "A" on his chest.
What's wrong with s'mores? If I added peanut butter and sang "Michael rowed the boat Ashore" would you come?

World's largest garage sale! Holy Crap! What if I posted a humongous garage sale sign that said : GOOD CRAP! BRING YOUR TRUCKS! YOU HAUL IT AWAY! ALL YOU COULD WANT AND MORE! GREAT PRICES. EARLY BIRDS WELCOME! EVERY WEEK DAY FROM 9 TO 5. 1 KENNEDY PLAZA. GREAT PRICES ON BOLOGNY AND PURPLE UNITARDS- RHYMES WITH ".UTITARD" SEE ANG" MY STATEMENT IS MY STATEMENT" ON SECOND FLOOR FOR MORE INFO. Utitard! I like it. Kind of rhymes with retard. And then, if the sign was kind of, sort of, left up for three days, would they, could they, fine themselves? O' I am going the distance with this one!

I drove around town today looking for old garage sale signs. saw quite a few. soon the city coffers - er-coffins- snicker snicker will be overflowing with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and then - by God! We can fix the streets, tear down the burned out houses, run out all the crack dealers, girls hiding shotguns in baby carriages, road walkers, street walkers, dog walkers who leave piles of poop on the lawns, riff raff and foo- fraw! Still holding out for that cozy spot on the iceberg!

Yah... but it's okay for them to stuff our emails and leave their flyers all over....guess that doesn't count as litter.
