I think it to be very prudent of our legislators to eliminate any positions opening in the coming year. The idea that each and every position filled will come before the legislators for determination, will bring a new and open scenario to county hiring. Far less nepotism, and patronage will be possible with the hiring process being brought into the open, and the hiring having to be justified to the legislative body, rather than a position being filled without any justification or revealing of qualifications as opposed to other candidates.
Putting this procedure for hiring in place alone, will bring more honesty and bipartisan participation and oversight to the process. Unjustified hirings will be minimized or eliminated, and each and every position hopefully will be seriously considered as to whether it is necessary to fill it or not.
I see Larry Tanoury Jr. most likely spearheading an effort to make this work, along with his allies who truly want to serve the people. Git'r done Larry. Keep up the good work.

Read the story again, Clipper.
The money was put into a contingency fund where it can be spent any way they see fit. It was NOT eliminated from the budget with an amended budget adopted.
That is not to say I don't appreciate Larry for fighting these positions from the start. I do!

Youi are right Frank. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess it is business as usual. Only time will tell how many "contingencies" occur over the next year, and whose family or friends benefit from the contingencies.
Stay on top of that Larry. Keep up the good work. You are the only light on the horizon of county politics. You and your allies that side with you on such issues.

Being psychic would help to understand politics.

A liberal is man who will give away everything he doesn't own. Frank Dane A man who has both feet planted firmly in the air can be safely called a liberal. American Proverb However: A liberal is a conservative who has been arrested. Thomas Wolfe Liberalism, above all, means emancipation -- emancipation from one's fears, his inadequacies, from prejudice, from discrimination... from poverty. Hubert H. Humphrey And this could be my favorite: No man can call himself liberal, or radical, or even a conservative advocate of fair play, if his work depends in any way on the unpaid or underpaid labor of women at home, or in the office. Liberals are:
Cosmopolitan critics, men who are the friends of every country save their own. Benjamin Disraeli
Oooh. That should hit home for some of our national politicians.

While I was reading what was published regarding the restoration of the county positions, that were formally abolished, I was appalled. The four positions cut were from the Sheriff's Office, two of them from the Patrol/Police Division. In this day and age and with tough economic times, crime which is often violent in nature will increase. Therefore it would make sense to make sure that there are enough police officers on the street doing the job. If the County wants to abolish positions lets start with a couple of "do nothing wind bag legislators" and there empty rhetoric. When a person calls 911 for an emergency and they have to wait a minute , which could be a matter of "life and death" I would feel safer knowing that a Sheriff's Deputy was able to assist , than knowing that there are more than a couple of County Legislators sitting around on the 10th floor blowing sunshine up each others keysters , and playing party politics to further their political agenda's. The Public Safety Committee should at least see fit to restore these positions which could and will affect staffing levels, and effect public safety!!
Crime is on the rise now is not the time to try to do more with less, the criminals have more than enough time to prepare and plan out their targets. Maybe the Legislators should think about cutting the benefits to able body men and women who refuse to work !! and are collecting WELFARE.
