Supreme Court to consider hearing case challenging Obama’s citizenshipThe U.S. Supreme Court will consider Friday whether to take up a lawsuit challenging President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. citizenship, a continuation of a New Jersey case embraced by many opponents of Obama’s election. Legal experts say the appeal holds little chance for success, despite appearing on the court’s Dec. 5 schedule. Legal records show it is the tip of an iceberg of nationwide efforts seeking to derail Obama’s election over accusations that he either wasn’t born a U.S. citizen or that he later renounced his citizenship in Indonesia. www.freep.com/article/20081203/NEWS15/81203128I didn't know this was still going on. Give it up, time to move on.

Was Hawaii a state in the USA when Obama was born. Why did they leave for Indonesia soon after . Can Obama's mother-in-law legally live in the white house? What does the secret service know and what are the security issues involved. Who pays for the security of the mother-in-law?

Hawaii was admitted to the union as a state in 1959, and Obama was born in 1961. What is the problem here?
I campaigned vigorously against the man, but since his election, I have seen a totally different man in Obama the president elect, than I saw in Obama the candidate. I have actually found peace in his election, and will be looking forward to seeing what his presidency will bring. There is another election in 2012 if he doesn't live up to our expectations. I find him to be an extremely intelligent young man, and I am sure we will benefit from some of his programs, and suffer for others. That is democracy, and party politics. He can't do any worse that Bush did. I supported Bush's decisions concerning the war on terror, but he sure did screw up a whole lot of other issues, and about took the USA off the list of friends of many nations that have been long time allies.
I DAMN SURE WOULD NOT WANT THE JOB!! You are damned if ya do and damned if ya don't. No wonder presidents come into the job with lots of dark hair and leave gray, aged, and wrinkled with stress and worry.

Nice write up on Secret Service at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Secret_Service#Protective_operations.2C_protective-function_training_and_weaponryIn part: "The U.S. Secret Service has two distinct and very different areas of responsibility: * Treasury roles, covering missions such as prevention and investigation of counterfeiting of U.S. currency and U.S. treasury bonds notes and investigation of major fraud. * Protective roles, ensuring the safety of national VIPs such as the President, past Presidents, Vice Presidents, Presidential candidates, their families, foreign embassies, etc." I guess they get to choose who they protect. I still see guys who look like SecretService up in Kennebunkport in the summer. I presume they're there for GB Sr.

Very cool and well trained professionals. I had the pleasure of speaking with one on the ferry to Martha'a Vineyard once, years ago. He was on his way to relieve another agent at Jackie O's retreat on the island. Very nice fellow, and impressive in his professionalism. He was quite willing to discuss his job, but there were questions that he would not answer and told me outright that it was for security reasons. Had some great stories to tell. We stood at the rail on the top deck for the duration of the trip, sipping our coffee and chatting. I was in a bus driver uniform and he started the conversation by complimenting me on the skill necessary to back the bus onto the ferry between the tightly parked cars. They always made us back on, so we could be the first one's off without impeding the departure of the cars.

Tip of the iceberg is right. Right wing hate mongers like Limbaugh are going to do everything in their power to make Obama's presidency as difficult as possible. If u listen to Limbaugh right now his program consists of 4 straight hrs. of hate & venom directed at Obama. It's sickening. How Limbaugh can do this day in & day out without being eaten up inside is beyond me. And he calls himself a Christian.

Limbaugh and his ilk are entertainers. (Even if some of us are not entertained by him.) As soon as his message goes sour with his audiences, watch it change. He's selling air time, so he can't afford to alienate his listeners. He'd soon be without commercial sponsos. Given that, who knows what he actually believes, and I for one don't care anyway. If you heard me on the radio one day with my own show, prancing on about issues in a way that was directly opposite what you knew me to believe, and you called me on it, I'd say .... Hey, this is show business! I'm selling soap! I haven't listened to Limbo in a long time, but I caught a few minutes of Michael Savage the other night. Now, anyone would have to go some distance to beat Savage at being nasty.

I stopped listening to Limbaugh soon after the primaries began because I figured he was on McCain's payroll so why listen to one sided comments. Limbaugh openly backed the losing candidate and I guess he just can't take defeat in a decent, professional manner. Plus the fact, Obama, who isn't even officially in the White House yet, has won over many people now by showing his sincere desires to really make changes and people like Limbaugh want to see Obama fail. Pretty dumb in my book because if Obama fails it only seriously affects every single one of us including Limbaugh.

Guys,
I'll give my two cents. This issue was raised with McCain, regarding his citizenship. He brought everything and showed everyone. If this was me, or most likely one of you, you'd do the same. This is what I have, here are my papers, my proof and be done with.
That's one of the big issues here. Obama hasn't and refuses to. Why? If it were me and I was saying how up front I am with everything then I'd say here it is and be done with it. If this is all bs, then show it for that. Again he has not, the more time that elaspes the more speculation abounds. Are there questions about his citizenship. Yes, supposedly due to Indonesia and his being adopted by his step father and going to school there. Again, supposedly that means he would have had to declare citizenship to Indonesia and then reapplied for citizenship in the US.
Did I vote for him? No. Did I like either of the two main candidates? No. Maybe he's not a US citizen and the states vote to change the constitution. Would that get us a better pool of candidates? Who knows. I'd just like to throw them all out and get "real" people back in government, not every high prices attorney who gets in and stays in for vitually life.
sorry...my 3 cents...maybe a nickle's worth.

I would find it very hard to believe that he would ever have gotten on the ballot without an investigatory panel of one kind or another, insuring that he was qualified and a natural born citizen. I think this whole bullshit blather is being fueled by the media to make news.
I would also bet that George Bush would have insured that by FBI or CIA or some other agency, he was checked out, and disqualified early in the game if it were possible. I guarantee that the republicans would have found THAT chink in his armor and blasted him out of the water early in the campaign.
It's time to give it up folks. He IS the president elect, and it isn't going to change. He isn't going to be disqualified at this point. You will get another shot at the White House in 2012. I was not happy to see him elected either, but I am satsified with his actions and words since the election is over, that he IS qualified to lead our country and will be a breath of fresh air.
I also have to say that I am EXTREMELY happy to see a minority candidate make it to the White House. It is about time we canned the wealthy white aristocracy and put a person in there that represents the minority population and average citizen of the nation.

I would also bet that George Bush would have insured that by FBI or CIA or some other agency, he was checked out, and disqualified early in the game if it were possible. And certainly Hillary, as far as she was able. And as a US Senator and the wife of a former President, I'm sure she had some ability to check the O-Man out. I have to agree with youm Clipper, but I'll wait for the investigation and the claims to play out. GSKI, welcome to the group. I haven't seen your signature here before. Two possible reasons why Obama hasn't handed over any citizen paperwork might be, 1. he doesn't have any (I don't), and 2. any decent lawyer would tell him not to do so. He might be surprised how offered evidence can work against him. I always thought the Ramseys were correct in giving the DA in Colorado a hard time and not cooperating with him.

My sentiments exactly Dave. If one is going to make accusations, let them bear the burden of proof. If they are slanderous or unfounded, leave the avenues open for a civil remedy should the opportunity arise.
If someone doesn't think he is a citizen, let THEM bear the costs of investigating and fact finding.
Yes gski, I also want to welcome you. I know you have been a member for awhile and have not posted. We appreciate any and all opinion posted, and are glad you decided to join in. I hope you will also consider joining us at Denny's on the 27th.

Guys,
simply stating what's out there. McCain had to show proof. It's before the Supreme court
Petition for writ of Certiorari with all the documentation. You'd think the guy doing this is a republican, he's a democrat.
Was this out there prior to the election, yup. That's why I said what I said. Show the info and be done with it.
Read the document if you haven't.

I didn't vote for Obama, but now that he is the elected official in, I say leave him alone. I can't wait to see what he is going to do with this country, I think that he is breath of fresh air. I'm just being positive. Now if everyone can get together and start weeding out the senators, and congress that have been there for a long time. I say out with the old and in with the NEW!!!

lucy, I agree. Obama is a breathe of fresh air. I backed him and voted for him because I believed his sincerity in wanting to make changes. Plus, I truly felt we couldn't do any worse then what we've had in the past from both parties. It is time for all the knit-picking to end and allow the newly elected President get on with much more important issues he has to face on our behalf. I don't envy him because of the mess he is left with. He'll be damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I do believe he is strong enough to accomplish his goals in the best interest of everyone.
