Would like to know who voted for it and who wasn't there so we can all remember those names when it comes time for re-election.

Tanoury Jr., I'm sure there are places in all departments from the top down excluding departments Kracker mentioned which are needed and the employees are already over loaded. The voters spoke in this last Presidential election and are demanding changes and some financial relief. Those changes have to come not just from the White House but from all of our local legislators to. The sad part is when things are decided to be cut it's usually from departments desperately needed. Such as Cracker mentioned and she is right. We are looking to you and all our legislators to do the right things on our behalf. There's plenty of "pork barrel" monies that can be cut. Fight to do that and leave departments alone that are necessary. The way things are right now none of us can afford any raises in any taxes. All departments of our Government should practice what we have to do with our home budgets to save a penny. Cut out the real unnecessary crap and STOP SPENDING! Bobbie, you basically just summed up my speech from the floor today when I voted NO to the amendement AND budget. They apinted it as if we had NO CHOICE. We do have a choice...We need to reform the entire system and get rid of the PORK and political jobs and agencies. The DSS workers do deserve a raise and have for many years. I said that today too. And if they would cut and overhaul the rest of the budget we would be able to afford raises and still cut taxes. But until we get a new bunch of legislators in there, we will keep seeing the same old status quo. I was very excited though that 3 other legislators joined in voting no (2 Republicans and 2 Democrats...ALL from Utica). So it sounds like change is brewing. Now we need to keep the momentum and change a few more things in next year's election.

The NO votes were Steve Roefaro (R-19), Larry Tanoury, Jr. (D-25), Ed Welsh (R-21) and Shannon Scott (D-22).
Absent were Brian Miller (R-Sauqoit) and Patty Hudak (D-Rome). In all fairness to Patty, her husband was recently diagnosed (unexpectedly) with a very serious health issue. So I do want to wish her well.

Even though I do not know her, I to wish her husband the best and a speedy recovery. I totally understand her situation but in such an important issue as this isn't there such a thing as an absentee vote the legislators can use? I am not aware of how that goes if someone can not be present, but hey, they do it for voters in regular elections. Why not for our legislators if one is not available. I hope everyone remembers those that voted for this budget and remembers them when their seat comes up for election again Thanks Larry for the info and for trying to do what is best and fair for all the people in this area. Please relay my thank yous also to Steve, Ed and Shannon. They will be remembered.

Well, Oneida Co. farmers just took quite a hit with this property tax hike. I guess farming isn't a good thing for a county to have as the number one industry. If the property taxes keep going up, you won't have to worry about that for much longer. Then all the politicians that keep voting for the tax hikes can get their food from somplace further away. I hope it stays fresh for ya!
Oh, and I did write my legislator to ask him to please vote no, but he basically said the lower % was better that the 8% that was originally purposed. Yes it is....but how about NONE!

Countrygal, you got that 100% right. I'm with you girl. Very sorry you will have some hardships facing you. It just isn't right that the hard working farmers in this area are always targeted.

I don't think we're targeted, I just think nobody thinks about us. It's almost like we don't exist. Ya know......the grocery stores have gardens out back and cows, chickens and pigs. THAT'S where they get the food from. Bet you didn't know that. How long before Picente has to be re-elected?

Well, would Koziol have done different? I guess we will never know. I don't think Leon campaigned hard enough or told the people of the county enough about where he stood on the issues. He just thought they would vote for him because he WASN'T Picente. In hindsight, maybe that would have been a better choice than what the county has now. Picente has had a poor attitude from the day he took over from Griffo.
Can't blame anyone but those that voted. If your boat is sinking, you hire the guy with the cork, not the one with the drill.

You've got that right, CountryGal! I told the folks on the school board that my vote on school budgets will always be No, until they present one that has either a zero or negative increase. It has to stop somewhere. We've been nickeled and dimed every year by a few percent that has added up to an amount affordable to fewer and fewer residents ... except the teachers and administrators, who seem to have the best jobs in town.

The whole process is a farce. The C.E. proposes a budget with an 8% tax hike. Then, they cut the budget with a tax hike of 5% so the whole crowd can appear to be looking out for the taxpayers. The school board & the city of Utica play the same game.

You may be right Kracker, and the sad part is WE the voters are to blame for electing those that are pulling off the scam. (I say we, but although we own property there, I am in Tennessee and can't vote there.)
Hopefully we will learn from Larry Jr's efforts and elect some more YOUNG, HONEST, DEDICATED legislators next election, to replace the deadwood, backroom, good ole boys, and to supplement the ranks of Larry Jr. and a few select honest legislators that are doing what their constituents want them to do.
Hell, maybe the voters will even elect someone who will vote against renewing the EDGE contract next time around. That would be like cutting off a toe of our budget that has gangrene and is starting to stink.

Was it you Kracker who said you look for names you recognize in the voting booth and then vote for someone else? I think that's a better solution than term limits.

It was just announced today that we in Herkimer Co. would see no tax increase, but some services would be cut.
