There was another on Wiley and Lafayette Street across Wiley from where Madore's body shop was. Across Lafayette Street from Utica Steam Engine and Boiler Works. The Station Building is still there unlike the other two buildings. Is that the one where some electrical company is or was now? I was gonna suggest that site Dave. Nice site they have there. There's also www.uticafire.com though it hasnt been updated in a bit. Thanks, WestMo, great site! This must be the truck on which my father was the Tillerman. In fact, it sort of looks like him in the photo.

You know, I had a cousin in New Hartford back in the '70's who had a fire truck. I don't know where he got it, but it was his. During family reunions, the entire family would climb on the fire truck and we'd drive around New Hartford and Utica. Somewhere I have a picture of us all on it. Or maybe my mom has it. It's around, anyway. If I ever find it I'll have to scan it and post it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a ladder truck. And now that I'm thinking about it, the chances are good that you know that cousin.

Yeah Kim. Alan Baird became the scapegoat for all that. Because of that 2 things changed: 1 - NYS changed the fire training regulations and no more "live" victims 2 - Lairdsville VFD ceased to exist. And that ladies and gentlemen is the reason for my adamant distaste for the former District Attorney who stuck in an additional charge the day before the trial was to be handed to the jury. Because he new the jury was going to acquit Alan from the grand jury charges he submitted a lesser charge favorable to the jury and that is what he was convicted on. Many departments lost officers and Lowell's chief stepped down for fear of personal liability. All of this is possible thanks to OSHA which allows lawyers to circumvent corporation laws and go after the Chief, officers and the Commissioners personally.

I went up and down John Street but didn't see anything that looked like it might have been a Fire house. There's a large brick house on the corner of Mary and John but it looks like it was built as a residence.
Most everything in the Park Ave - John Street area has been torn down for Court House parking.

In my misty memory is a building that could have been a firehouse at one time, and I think it was in the area of St. John's. It certainly wasn't a firehouse during my time in that area. I suppose I could even be thinking of the garage directly across the street from the Old UCA, just up the hill a few hundred feet from the church. But I want to place it on Elizabeth, for some reason. "A large brick house on the corner of mary and John" sounds like it could be what was the convent for the nuns at UCA in the 1950's. It wasn't a mansion, but it looked to have been a "professional's house," e.g. an attorney, etc., and it faced north, down the hill.

Just to toss this out there: Eagle & Neilson was sold to a private individual and is being used for storage. Blandina & Albany is now a Bosnian Restaurant of some sort. Wetmore and Bleeker is now indeed the Fire Academy.
And as far as I know the sign shop has been down at the DPW garage on Wurz Ave. for several years.

In my misty memory is a building that could have been a firehouse at one time, and I think it was in the area of St. John's. There was the Old UFA in the area you're describing. It's gonna be tough because almost everything in that area is gone now. I went searching for someone I used to know before his death that I'm pretty sure said he had worked at the John Street Firehouse. I'm not having much luck because I can't seem to get the correct spelling of his name.

Another Station was on the East side of Washington Street North of Lafayette Street. I got the quote from the uticafire site. I went there today and all the buildings are gone. This is from the OD and puts the Station in another area of Washington Street. Pearl Street is where City Hall used to be. So either there were two Stations on Washington Street or one of the informations is incorrect. Personally I seem to remember the Station on Pearl Street. There was a Jeweler and a Bar at the end of the street. Anyway it's all gone today because of the Hotel and Parking Garage.

There was another Station on Cooper Street. That was Disbanded in 1911 Does anybody have any recollection of this Station? Might have been wiped out by the Arterial.
